I blame it on Varric's not so trustworthy storytelling.
Well i could to, but then she showed up in DA:I MP in the same outfit!

These things actually ruined Isabela for me. I mean the STD jokes are awkward, and it didn't really add anything to anything. Not to Isabela as a character or Thedas as a setting. Also the armour had what purpose? I mean she is a duelist, wouldn't a leather armour that covered her skin be most pratical? Also a leather armour can be made into something sexy that would still fit Isabela's style. Abit off-topic, but had to be said.
Oh god yes, her armour. I had to mod leather shorts onto her just to try and keep it realistic. With all those blades flying around she should be cut to ribbons by now. ![]()

That explains everything! Do you think Isabela was actually a nun but Varric sexified her for a better story? ![]()
Lol, I did say that actually. I don't want to 'PC that sort of thing out of existance'.
As I said, I'd want to keep Aveline's relationship with Isabela as it's awesome, but I happen to think that there should be a variety of different attitudes from different characters. Isabela has so many great things going on but all Aveline will ever mention is sex, and other characters are guilty of that too. So Isabela gets the '****' label when in fact she's a badass pirate queen who excels with a dagger. Let's mention that once in awhile perhaps? Let's not go for the super easy std jokes and ridiculous armour?
I'm all for promiscuous characters, but I'd like some of their friends/comrades not to keep getting so butt hurt about it and making it the number one insult they use. Some of the characters. SOME of them. Not all....let's have one who freaking hates overtly sexual ppl, go ahead, but I want a variety of attitudes.
I can't help feeling there's a faint whiff of 'liking sex is bad' which I think exists a little in DA:O and DA2. Zevran and Isabela are shady rogues and oh look, they're the ones who sleep around. Also Morrigan and Leliana, the also shady/dodgy law breaking companions. Sebastian used to be too but he mended his wicked ways and now he's a good guy!
Why? Why is liking sex always linked with a dodgy moral code? I assume in real life there are plenty of people who manage to have a healthy sex life with lots of partners and not shiv some guy in the back to nick his wallet on the way home.
I'd argue that some of Isabela's friends don't. Don't remember Merrill/Bethany throwing insults at Izzy as they have a very different relationship with her.
There's vicious stuff between Izzy and Aveline, and the target(promiscuity, manliness/prudery) they pick on are completely realistic as is the oil and water nature of their relationship((they aren't really friends to begin with). By the end the viciousness is gone and its more a personal teasing between 2 very different friends.
Not sure its a liking sex is bad but a being outside gameworld norms gets commented. I'm not sure i want a game world where things aren't commented on.
I agree they could do with broadening the singular rogues and sex approach they've treaded so far.
No to sex but yes to relationships?
so....you want your characters to just be "friends" ?

That one is a bit harder to explain, I agree.
Isabela has aways been the one to fall in battle the most for me, so at least that makes sense. ![]()

ffs. I should have known there would be a opposite of the 'no relationships yes sex thread.' Give these guys an inch and they take a mile
I'll do it again.

I used a mod that put her in black leather pants and a dark grey blouse and bandanna.
Did wonders to make her look more like a sexy pirate and less like a pirate-themed hooker ![]()
No sex, please. We're American.

Love not lust

it's actually really sad that people think that a working and committed relationship has to have sex to make it so. Although it's not for me I'm at least not going around vilifying someone else's relationship and reduce it to friendship.

Well its a minority, and you just know how people get riled up by things that are different from what they know and like.

Didn’t know about that one, I'll have to look it up
Got it on nexus. I think it was called "Dusk Armor"
It will be very boring if all romance options are all like that, it's nothing wrong with lust or have feelings of being sexually aroused. It just have to be balanced between the two without getting rid of one part to make romance relevant. People would want more than smoochy-sitting-front-of-the-fireplace, people want to have a physical relationships too.

With Merrill sex got brought up and she was the innocent one that Isabela kinda lightly joked with, Bethany she flirted with and once again all about sex. The truth is every character and side character HAD to call her some name or mention sex heavily with her. Compare to Iron Bull who is just as promiscuous, he has different complex relationships with several members. Rivalry with Solas, respect for Vivienne, a father/son with Krem, that the sexual nature when it does come up (with dorian or Cassandra for instance) it isn't cartoonized.
If nothing else Zevran a very sexual character for whom sex was constantly coming up, was talked about as an assassin at least as much as his proclivities. I mean their actions were commented on without it being a terrible and constant reminder that this character is all about sex. Even though both characters flirt shamelessly I can't think of one instance where a non companion dissmissed them based on their sexuality, or insulted them for it.
Promiscuous characters can be done and acknoledged without making a character a farce, look at Jack, or even better, Morinth a character completely about sex who is more respected for it than Isabela.
Believe this thread is asking for the option to not have sex; not forcing the choice on other Players. Perhaps some are like Tali, and are trying to avoid space STD's....
Horrible joke. Deeply, voraciously bad.
Almost as bad if it's not a joke, because of how wrong it is.

This was already the case in Mass Effect 1, though it was less "I don't want sex ever" and more "I don't want sex now." Nevertheless, you could decline and the relationship continued,
From what I have read, a romance with Tali takes great preparation if one wishes to be sexually intimate with her, let alone kiss. This is not a joke, and many may wish to treat all relationships with such caution.
But the major thought is that some request to have the sexual aspect as a choice; not part of the Romance unless they wish it. I see nothing wrong with insuring that such intimacy be optional. Also, not a jest.
And that great preparation is not related to "space STDs" in specific. It's related to any and all germs she would come into contact with. You singling out STDs as the primary danger was in terrible taste.

It might also be the case in Mass Effect 2, but I never had the heart to tell Tali no so I haven't tried it. Does the relationship continue into 3 if you refuse, if anyone knows?

No, refusing to sleep with Tali ends the relationship. The only romances in Mass Effect 2 where sex isn't mandatory is Kelly(since the writer made it ambiguous) and apparently Miranda.
