BioWare can we please have the option to say no to sex but yes to relationships?

This has that familiar feeling of "please give me a romance tailored to my personal desires." In the same way that people have gender and sexuality, people have the desire for sexuality. If their partner doesn't want to have sex with them, it is neither unrealistic nor unreasonable for them to end the relationship to seek someone more sexually compatible.

Then there's the whole "if they answered every request for a specific form of romance they would have to write infinite romances and there aren't enough resources," but no one is foolish enough to believe the developers when they say that wouldn't be possible.

This isn't new.  BioWare did that before in Dragon Age: Inquisition.  It was actually very nice.  I enjoyed it.  Didn't see side boob or side ass in the ONE scene we're accustomed to getting? Big deal.  The romance storyline and pursuit was nice and well done.

It was annoying and terrible and I hope it never happens again. Not about the sex scene, but the fact it happens is important. it's juvenile to say that it's about nudity. Some people just don't want to see certain aspects to be ambiguous, DA2 and STWOR generallly don't have nudity in the romance scene, but it's ok because we at least know it happens.

Why is a sex scene important in a video game that isn't marketed as a dating simulator?

Two of the Dragon Inquisitions romances actually don't have sex scenes -Solas and Josephine- so they can do it.

And two others, Blackwall and Dorian's let sex be optional.

It was amazing and wonderful and I hope every future Bioware game has it at the least.

I guess the idea of "consummating" an imaginary relationship by seeing simulated sex rendered in engine doesn't really hold much emotional value to me.

That's cool.  I didn't know about the other three.

That's a bit like saying "why's the story important in a game that's marketed around killing things".

As fans, we're not required to operate within the narrow boundaries of what marketing allows for (which often doesn't even resemble the final product).

Case in point: I play Halo for the story, despite multiplayer receiving the lion's share of the attention. That said, I wouldn't mind if Bioware took a sledgehammer to all their romances.

Because it's an important part of the relationship for me and a lot of people and we just don't want it to be kept ambiguous. It could already ambiguous if we could skip it with options if added in the next game.

Relationship with sex, what is this madness?!?!?!?!?  How will I know that I won.....

And two others, Blackwall and Dorian's let sex be optional.

But they have proven they can have  romances without sex

That's cool, I didn't know they did that.  It seems like DA:I took a lot of step forwards towards being inclusive when it comes to things like this.

I think this is a reasonable request. Although, I would not want to see different relationships because the resource spread. Rather I would like to see it as a one liner dialogue choice option within a potential romance arc.

It would be interesting if characters did also have different reactions. Like some may very well leave you, and some may be cool with it. In addition, how about the other way around? You approach someone and for whatever reason--they care for you deeply, but it is not a good time for them. Then the option is yours as to whether, or not you leave them, or you are cool with it.

I think it would add more nuance to the relationships to have different options like these. They're pretty easy right now. Too easy.

Mass Effect has never been marketed around "killing things".  BioWare's hallmark is interactive storytelling.  So story is front and center.

The point is that while relationships is a feature of these games, that's not the focus of these games.  Also, romance shouldn't be so narrowly defined by whether or not you get to see fake sex.

Yes, it's important.  It's also intensely personal.  Some people are fine with sex being shown.  Some don't mind it happening but don't want to see it in action.  And some don't want it at all.

So why is it important? Why would not seeing a awkwardly animated sex scene make your relationship with a character that professes their love for you "ambiguous?

That's why I said adding the option to skip it, so not sure what's your point is.

Sera as well. In DAI, the only romances where it is mandatory is Cassandra, Cullen(maybe), and The Iron Bull.

I can honestly say, without the romances in the BW games I'd be way less interested in them.

Given that Mass Effect 1 let's you decline sex (without breaking the romance), or have Shepard sleep with the LI but skip past the scene, or let you see butt and side boob in all it's glory, I'd say Bioware has gone backwards in this in recent years, and only with DAI is starting to turn around again.

The point was not about what Mass Effect, specifically, is marketed around.

The point is that:

1) Marketing is irrelevant to what we request from our games.

2) Marketing is often an inaccurate reflection of what the final product looks like.

In Bioware's case, regardless of perception of where the focus is, Bioware has implemented sex scenes in several of their games (for better or worse). It's not exactly crazy for someone to request that they continue implementing content in keeping with their tastes.

IIRC, I think Alistair from DAO actually turned me down the first time. I guess I pushed up on him a little too quick. Later he was definitely into the idea-it was even his idea.

I think I got disapproval for pushing up on Alistair before he was quite ready....iirc.   It's a been awhile since I played, but I'm pretty sure that happened. It surprised me actually.
