the romantic tension in here is so palpable.
BioWare can we please have the option to say no to sex but yes to relationships?

That's how you put it. You only care that you get the kind of romances you want for every single romance, and if people want something different you think they should just suffer.
Well, I'm ok with choices of either having sex or not as an option, but you want to have an option entirely leave out sex, so the one who doesn't want to make a compromise is you.

How is wanting romances where whether they have sex or not ambiguous not making a compromise? Those who want to have a sexual relationship with that LI can still have that, they just don't get a sex scene.

Unless they invest extra resources to provide different but equal dialogues reflecting different nature of relationship paths I'm not in favour of hiving it off as an optional spoke.

It needs to depend on the character.
Some characters are going to expect that in a romantic entanglement, sex is going to be on the table at some point. If they find out that interest is not shared by a potential partner, it makes sense they might decide it's better to call it quits before they get too deep in a incompatible coupling.
It's not a bad thing if some characters are willing or interested in a romance where sex is avoided or delayed, but I don't support it becoming a standard.
"At some point" maybe. But why right now? Most of these games take place in the span of a few weeks or months. Even if the characters are developing a close relationship, can they not be expected keep their pants on until the immediate crisis is resolved.
DA2, for all the "Sleep with me or break up" aspect, at least took place over several years.

Come on, Hanako. He's not trolling, he just feels strongly about this, just like a lot of us do.
I think you've got a reasonably good chance of having an avoidable sex scene in this game. Bioware is consistently trying to vary the formula more and more lately. It hasn't been, gift/approval + gift/approval + gift/approval = sex, for a long time.

Unless the sex scene is content free -- DA:O style -- there's a cost involved. You do want equivalent content on both tracks, right? Of course, I'm OK with you guys getting less if that's how you want to roll, but I really don't think this aspect of DA:O is worth returning to.How is wanting romances where whether they have sex or not ambiguous not making a compromise? Hopefully you're right. At least some devs are for it and wan to do it. I just hope that some of them are on the Mass Effect team.

Yes unless they are going to invest the resources to implement alternate path properly.

Having it be ambiguous would have both tracks having equivalent content though. It's when there is a sex scene that those who opt out get less. Now if Bioware created a scene in place of the sex scene for those who opt out of the sex scene, then it would be equivalent on both tracks.

Frankly when it comes to romances, the stuff that comes before "the money shot" is the more interesting part anyway. The development of the relationship and learning about each other beats make-out sessions story-wise. Clothed or not.

There are answers for why a character might want it "right now." For some people, sex does equate to a feeling of intimacy and comfort, and there's the fear that there will never be another chance.
But the bottom line really has more to do with dealing with the timing of the story arc, and the representation of the character as a whole. It's shaky to compare a fictional character leaving the relationship if their sexual advances are received with a real life situation where a person issues an ultimatum for sex. The difference is that video game time doesn't, and can't, work that way. That is ostensibly the only chance for the characters to be intimate, and for that physical intimacy to be self evident. If the player wants to turn down the sex scene for the sake of headcanoning that those characters are entirely abstinent, whether or not the LI character would actually be cool with that, then they're asking for that characters interest to adjust to their will as a player.
Which is very very not--in my opinion--cool.

Call me troll for disagreeing with you is just gonna make me laugh than upset. This is something I feel to be very important in regard to the romance feature. You feel strongly about that, but so am I. I'm ok with how things are. I played it enough to know that ambiguous kinda ruin a romance for me, since in my first and only file, I go for Josephine first before switching to Cassandra after learning about how the relationship is proceeded. The option is already limited as it is. If there are only two options, I can choose which I like better, but often may learn I don't like any of the options (like with Iron Bull and Dorian), with ambiguity, I know for sure I won't like that option if there's 2 options, so I'd be stuck with one I either like or not (Like with Cassandra and Josephine). It's a good thing I like Cassandra and always wanted to have her as an option since DA2 or else my Inquisitor would have been celibate. I'm not willing to do that kind of compromise again I'm afraid, so either the choices are there but no completely asexual.

But does that mean gratuitous sex scene?

But the romances have very little content regardless. The whole romance is actually non sexual until the very end consummation scene. Then you have one last battle. They're also very isolated from the rest of the game. So, I don't see the big deal with adding an extra line of dialogue.
However, I do not want them to create extra romances just for this. I'd rather it be an option within an existing romance arc.
