Did Ashley, Kaidan, or Liara require more resources in ME1?

I'm personally not a fan of the let's not hook up till the final mission approach. think it is very poor.
If they repeat simplistic let's hold off consummation till just before the big bad kicks you in the balls the optional issue is less of an issue. However I would prefer to see relationships dealt with in a more complex nature, with varying stages, and see the state of the romance including the sexual aspect reflected in the later depiction.

Call me troll for disagreeing with you is just gonna make me laugh than upset. This is something I feel to be very important in regard to the romance feature. You feel strongly about that, but so am I. I'm ok with how things are. I played it enough to know that ambiguous kinda ruin a romance for me, since in my first and only file, I go for Josephine first before switching to Cassandra after learning about how the relationship is proceeded. The option is already limited as it is. If there are only two options, I can choose which I like better, but often may learn I don't like any of the options (like with Iron Bull and Dorian), with ambiguity, I know for sure I won't like that option if there's 2 options, so I'd be stuck with one I either like or not (Like with Cassandra and Josephine). It's a good thing I like Cassandra and always wanted to have her as an option since DA2 or else my Inquisitor would have been celibate. I'm not willing to do that kind of compromise again I'm afraid, so either the choices are there but no completely asexual.

Which is odd, given in my Josephine romance run, I imagine her and the Inquisitor bunking together regularly after the duel, then running off to Antiva and have a passel of kids together (well, assuming humans and qunari can have kids).

They never talk about it, even with Solas he did mention about bedding. I just personally don't like it being keep ambiguous. In Solas situation, even though we don't see it, it's still mentioned. It's just my personal preference for it not to be ambiguous is all.

Which is fair enough.

But look at it this way, in games where the sex-scene isn't at the very end, the relationships aren't really dealt with anyway outside of banter, and maybe the chance to kill the LI in dialogue.  Even in DA2, where Merrill and Anders can move in with Hawke, the relationship isn't really touched on.

So I still don't see where these extra resources are needed.

You can talk about it though. In the Arbor Wilds one of the dialogue options with Josephine is how after this you and she should spend some private time together, which makes her flustered and ask how you can think of such things at a time like that.

What consider private may vary greatly.

Not to mention when her arranged marriage comes up, Josephine mentions that the two of them have gotten "close"  it's up to you define what close means.

I would actually kinda like the option to say no to sex. Or maybe take it further. Let's say you romance a character that is kinda like Jack, or Isabela from Dragon Age. Someone who loves to have sex. If you opt out of having sex, and don't say the right things, they could end the relationship, because they aren't getting what they want. Want to take the romance into the next game? Okay, so long as you said the right things. But what about the third game? Are you still saying no to sex? Then maybe a consequence could come about where they cheat on you. There is possibility with this, which could make for some interesting game play, choices and role play. (Do you forgive them for sleeping with someone else, for example?)

What about characters like Liara, or Cassandra from Dragon Age? How would they react to you not wanting to have sex? I would assume these characters are a little more okay with it. So, could you have a trilogy where you romance the same character, but play as an asexual? That would be pretty good. Great for a lot of people. You are providing asexual romance options. Realistic asexual romances. I could not fault BioWare for doing something like this (unless they completely **** it up).

I'd disagree strongly that the nature of the relationship isn't brought up in banter. It most definitely is in isabela one. Some of the relationships most definitely suffered in dai IMO from dev decisions in these areas.
I'd also argue we should be looking for increased depth rather than cutting out depth to account for the desire for optionality from a few in already optional content.

Which is the point. For many people, it means sex. There, you got your reference. Or does it only count if they spell it out for you?

What's a relationship without sex? Might as well hook up with a castrated dog.........or a nun (who knows?).

More depth is always good.

But I think it can be achieved without sex.

Yes, yes he is.

You do realize you're chiming in on a joking conversation, right? Funny how I never personally use name calling toward you and you use a bunch of name calling. Who is the actual rude one here?

I don't care.

You have done far worse than name call.

You are.

Well, there's certainly nothing wrong with defining "close" as "lots of wild monkey sex"

And you have done far worse than name call in our PM session.

Post it.

You're now just lying. I even wish you luck with other games even though it's not something I believe in, not sure how it is worse than personal attacks.

This scene in ME3 is very relevant:

And why Kaidan's romance is my absolute favorite.

But the romances have very little content regardless. The whole romance is actually non sexual until the very end consummation scene. Then you have one last battle. They're also very isolated from the rest of the game. So, I don't see the big deal with adding an extra line of dialogue.

However, I do not want them to create extra romances just for this. I'd rather it be an option within an existing romance arc.

I agree no need to create an entirely separate romance for this.  With regards to the first part all you need is that extra line of dialogue and instead of sex you simply embrace and comfort one another before the big bad.

And this is why romances in rpgs don't get taken seriously...
