Greetings all.

I require advice and suggestions for my mage playthrough.

I want to make a crowd control mage but I do not know what mage specialization in DAO is focused on crowd control.

I mean, Origins does not have Force Mage or Rift Mage and the Warden I am playing now has no interest in Blood Magic so Blood Wound's out of the way.

So what mage specialization (other than Blood Mage) do you think offers the crowd control? Awakening specializations are also okay.

Don't bother about the specializations, there are a lot of normal cc spells already...oh just name it...the wonders of DA:O magic

mage specializations in Origins are kind of niche, its perfectly viable to just take 2 for the stat bonuses alone and put all your points into the basic spell list, which has plenty to offer re cc - glyphs, ice, sleeps, paralyze, forcefield, crushing prison, grease...

glyph of repulsion is my fav spell in the game, so much fun, also the walking bomb spells are super satisfying and very high damage if you can control the mobs well enough to keep them at a distance.

There's no real crowd control spec like in DA2, in origins there's just a ton of CC spells. Only CC you get from specs are blood wound and technically shapeshift abilities, so if you're not going blood magic there's not much to be had.

Instead you'll just have to put up with things like paralysis explosion, sleep, waking nightmare, earthquake, mass paralyze or cone of cold.

Keeper in Awakening. It's basically one big AOE that can slow, knock-back or root enemies. Then there is Battlemage with Hand of Winter, freeze everyone around you and have a warrior shatter them with Massacre. Hilariously OP and broken combo. It doesn't even trigger any friendly fire.

If massacre's not killing shatterable mobs on its own you need more intensifying runes...

Edit: the most hilarious combo in awakening (IMO) is vulnerability hex + dual wield spirit warrior. You can do somewhere around 1000 dps with that

I'll make my token SS response in that Swarm Form is as effective CC ability as any in the game and the only problems you might run into is nature resistant foes.
