Right, I like creating a character that looks like me too. But when I playthrough a game strictly for lore content, I tend to tone down the difficulty and go with a default character. But sometimes there's some features I would like to change about the default character.

Is this a cost worth paying? I got no dog in this fight since I never play default PCs anyway.

I agree with this. I always wanted to change the eye color and facial hair of default male Shepard.

I had no idea we couldn't do this. You can edit the default femshep, which I did at least once in the original Mass Effect, so I'm surprised the it wasn't an option to do so with the male avatar.
Mind you, "Default Femshep" may have a slightly different connotation, in that you technically have to change the gender tab from its "default setting."

That's because MaleShep is a scan of a male model, specially built for the game and you can't fiddle with it. FemShep was just a generic face, nothing unique at all. Which sucks.

Not really. Default gender and default of either gender are 2 different things.
I didn't think you could modify default femshep.

Oh how I've wanted the ability to do this. Or at least be able to use some aspects of the default character in the CC.
Though I guess it really wasn't an issue except in DA2 and ME3, since in ME1 and ME2 default FemShep (seemed) like she made via the CC.

You couldn't in ME3. Before that point, default FemShep and default MShep were very different things. Like Arcadia mentioned, default Mshep was always based on a specific model (I don't think they really had the technology to support the player making alterations to it), whereas the default for FemShep was just a basic preset until ME3.

It's very hard to do with photo scanning. It's different from the CC within the game itself. We don't know in the next game if they use real model or just editing it from the CC they create. I hope they don't have a default since it gives a canon sense to the actual characters. Just put Ryder in a helmet and keep it ambiguous.

I did with DA2, would've loved to have been able to change a few things about default femhawke(like hair color). The CC femhawke i created otoh, i was never able to be completely satisfied with.

I'm actually on the opposite on this. I don't inherently have anything against CC's, but I've had much more joy playing with the high-res default faces in ME3 and DA2 than with the CC faces in DAO/DAI. I just don't get any enjoyment in creating characters in it, actually more frustration, as it is difficult for me get out anything I like. The high-res defaults, in turn, I've always found personable and enjoyable.
Again, I am not advocating removing the CC, I'd just rather have that good high-res default as an alternative. Especially since it literally takes nothing away from the CC.

OP while I understand the request and fully support it I kind of think modifying the default would result in loss of that high res texture that's desirable. You might be able to get away with a few superficial details like eye and hair color...and makeup. Maybe the better solution is to develop a CC that produces the same level of realism as default male-Shep.

Fine by me.This would mean limiting the default character's design to a head that can be built in the CC.

Would be nice, also I wouldn't want default protagonist to have unique hairstyles etc.

This. I have no problem with a default face (but I prefer the DAI way, where there is no default face, just some pre-made head than a deafult face anytime) as long as the only decent hairstyle is not locked to it. I hated default FemShep and Default FemHawke for this reason.

And don't give the defaults ridiculously awesome hair compared to the ones customs are stuck with. Damn you, Jane Shep and Marian Hawke!

FWIW there's a mod for that on Nexusmods, it adds the default male and female Hawkes with and without blood swipes, into the CC. No good if you're on console tho. ![]()
At least it lets you have a femHawke with the default hair, but varying faces.

Ah yes, thank the maker for mods!
But yes, poor console users. I kind of get that BW wants the default to look special, but don't taunt us by giving custom characters shitty hair

I didn't care for default ME3 female Shepard, she imo looked nothing like the cover art. So, I suppose changing a few things should be allowed.
