DA:I had timed exclusive DLC. We've seen what happened with Tomb Raider and other titles, with developers openly declaring that sales are lower.

While this game has been announced for X1, PS4 and PC there is still a chance we'll end up with timed DLC exclusives for X1 consoles.

Id just like to know what people would think about such a move. Allowing you to buy the game first, then telling you about timed DLC later.

And how would that influence your decisions to purchase either the game or the DLC and would you even buy a console to play a timed exclusive for one game, a few months early?

Or is this whole idea ineffective?

Well, I honestly don't care about timed exclusives.  I've avoided all playthroughs of RoTR (yay me!) and it's gonna be released in a couple'a days.  As long as it isn't released a year (on other platforms) from the time that it was originally released, I'm golden.

I don't care about time exclusives either - I have a PC and a PS4, and I'm quite happy to wait however long is necessary (usually because I have other stuff to play - speaking of which, if I ever clear the backlog of games that I have, it'll be a miracle).

That's kind'a one thing I hate about episodic content.  TWD, LiS, KRZ (ugh, don't get me started on this one), etc.  I like playing it through, I don't like playing it for a couple'a hours then putting it down for two months and forgetting about it the next time I pick it back up.

I'm that way with DLC, cant just load a save and play shadow broker have to play the whole game again.

Start to finish.

Would that make me love EAware even less than today? Most likely.

I would not consider buying a console, I might consider not buying the game.

Dunno about the business side of things, I imagine the consoles pay enough to take away the burn of the lost sales. I don't really  care about timed exclusive DLCs, I can be patient. Might mind the base game being on a timed exclusive, especially if it's as long a wait as the new Tomb Raider.

I'm still waiting for RoTR to be released on PS4. I certainly don't purchase a console because of timed exclusives. I hope BW wised up after JoH and avoid pulling this bs again. Interesting enough I ended up not buying that DLC because I had other games to play and sort of lost its moment for me.

First and foremost, I buy a game for its SP campaign and not for available DLCs. The latter I buy if I deem the main game enjoyable.

Also, exclusives don't bother me at all.

Timed Exclusives, don't spur hardware sales, they just annoy people with other hardware.

Actually, they do spur hardware sales. For example when it was announced that dawngaurd (skyrim) was going to be released earlier on X360, sales for that console went up. Companies wouldn't push for these deals if they weren't effective.

What I understand of timed DLC is that they are perceived to be effective in building stronger relationships between developers and the console hardware producer that receives the benefit of the exclusive.

Do they help the developer? I don't believe they are as effective. Favoring one target sector over another with incentives installs a negative into the unfavoured market place. In gaming, the negative perception of the strategy will be increased because it becomes part of the brand attachment conflict of console gamers.

If a product is designed to cover multiple markets in parrallel, a wiser strategy is to service each market equally. Not apply favouritism to one branch of the product line at the expense of another can cause sales bleeding and it definitely impacts on the brand perception in the consumer.

Gamers are sophisticated and informed consumers, not hostages to a brand conflict that is not in their interests. Brand's that fail to recognise that in their consumers do not deserve my support

Depends on the 'exclusive' but if it's timed release of the game or timed release of an expansion than EAWare can go have sex and travel because I won't buy the game if I'm treated like the red-headed step child. If they expect me to pay triple A pricing for the game, then I expect nothing less than my platform of choice to be treated as an equal, both in terms of game development and in terms of content release.

I wait for a sale anyway, so the timing is trivial.

As far as I'm concerned  I'll just get it on the system I bought it for and if I have to wait longer for said DLC or game then I will. I'd nevre byu the game for another console just to get access to it earlier if I don't want it for that system even if I happen to own it. Which in the XB1 case I do. This is what I've done with TR I never planned on getting it for the XB1 and I haven't but I do plan on having it on PC and I have preloaded it already as I did that last night when it became available although I still need to wait for Steam to unlock it.

There is literally nothing they could do to get me to buy a console.    They could give me one for free and still wouldn't use it.   So no.   Timed exclusives don't help them as much as they think.

Besides, I am not the type to really care if others are playing something before me.   If it releases on xx/xx/xxxx for the PC, then that is the release date for me.    Whether someone gets it a month earlier doesn't phase me.

I'm hoping Andromeda doesn't have anything exclusive to either console. Even though the Jaws of Hakkon DLC did eventually come to PS4 and other consoles I was still annoyed that we had to wait around 2 months after it came out on the Xbox One.

Personally I'm not a big fan of timed exclusives, even when I am the beneficiary (Xbox One owner).

I don't like that a game like TLOU can be so good and people cant play it on Xbox. I had no idea what I was missing till I got the PS4.

Games should be enjoyed and when something that good goes unplayed its like artwork being locked in a vault.

The advantage of a timed release (i.e. XB1 exclusive) is at least I'll get to see just how bad it is before making a decision to buy it.

So every cloud and all.

Absolutely hate exclusives & refuse to buy games with timed dlc after DAI. For the most part I'm usually close to being done with game by time dlc hits so if its timed I'd rather move on to next game

So far I always bought collector's editions ... but after DA:I I'm not going to risk anything. No pre-orders, no special version... I'm going to wait until the first reviews are in and if they don't blow me away, then I'm going to wait until there is dirt cheap GOTY edition, if I buy it at all.
