Probably very low, I'd say, almost non-existent.

One of the weirdest things I noticed when I was poking around in the toolset is that (apparently) both Jowan and Lily can be present at an US!mage!Warden's funeral, and both of them wear Tranquil robes.

I don't particularly like them as people, but damn. That's cold.

After what Jowan did, it's not surprising. I'm more surprised they didn't execute him. Remember the Circle already wanted him to become Tranquil even before they were sure he was a blood mage. They did not think he would pass his Harrowing, and they would've been right I think.

I know it's not surprising, it's just... different seeing it confirmed instead of implied.
If implied, there's room for doubt. "Maybe they were 'merciful' and executed him instead of making him Tranquil," or "Maybe they just locked Lily up instead of making her Tranquil." But both of them confirmed? Whoa.
Actually, you gotta love the cruel irony the Chantry inflicted on them. They both defied and tried to flee the Circle because they were in love and wanted to be together. Then the Chantry makes them both Tranquil and keeps them in the Circle working side by side. Now they can be together, just with their emotions and free will completely stripped.

I wanted to recruit Jowan soooo bad!! Shame he can't come with us. He's actually not a bad person... If we can forgive and recruit Sten's crazy a**,why not Jowan, whyyyy.... ![]()

It's clearly an idea they considered but Tranquillity isn't used on non-mages as a punishment. It's not supposed to be used as a punishment at all. It's a prophylactic.

It would be one thing to show him mercy after he earns your trust by helping fix his mistakes, but before?

The only way to save Jowan is to let him escape immediately, but it seems unrealistic to be generous so quickly.
It would be one thing to show him mercy after he earns your trust by helping fix his mistakes, but before?
The only character I can see doing that is a circle mage who feels guilty about throwing Jowan under the bus and might love him.

I've just finished playing the part in Redcliff where I talk to Jowan in the cell so this thread is very timely for me. ![]()
Now that I know Jowan's voice so well, because I've played DAO at least 10 times or more (I'm not going to count because I don't want to know), I realize his voice actor had a LOT of lines in DOA. His voice is everywhere and I can't get that it isn't Jowan talking, out of my mind, even when the character looks different. ![]()

Is it even allowed to make a non-mage tranquil? Jowan is guilty, although I would say there are some arguments in his favor too (and I really find being made tranquil extreemly cruel), but Lily was only ever guilty of falling in love with the wrong person. She never harmed anyone - helping Jowan escape does not count imo, since she didn't know, he was a blood mage. Plus she willingly accepted her punishment, which according to Greagoir would be the mage prison.

In Lily's case, if they reverse the tranquility and she lives through it, does that make her a Seeker, like Cass? Making a non mage tranquil is the procedure that Cass went through to become a Seeker.

He was originally meant to be recruited, so you could conscript him, but I would guess that he might be saved if you return him to the circle because of Irving. I headcanon that myself, because I liked him and felt he deserved a second chance.

He's definitely either dead or tranquil if you send him back. He's a blood mage and a apostate, who attempted murder.
I never send him back, but I don't have high hopes he managed to survive anyway. They probably caught him later on. ![]()

That would make for an awkward funeral...
