Hey guys

Just got back to ME3MP after recently getting the games on pc instead of xbox. So far I haven't unlocked much since I just switched.

Just wanted to know if you guys would bother with grenade based kits while not having any grenade capacity gear or are they not quite worth the effort then?

I'm a bit rusty still, haven't hardly played for about three years.

I really miss my xbox manifest. :( That was basically the only downside with switching platforms. (Even though it was far from maxed and I didn't have any grenade upgrades there either.. :P )

You could do it.

But it's a lot more grenade to be spammed if you use them. Especially if you're a Thermal Clip Pack addict like myself.

I think Adept or Engineer would be the best choice, but anything is doable.  You won't exactly be knocking heads off with your Paladin or Saber and your damage output may be way less on other classes, but still possible.  Inferno grenades are where its at.  Catch em in the spawn.

Grenade kits are relatively balanced without capacity gear, so you shouldn't worry about being underpowered or anything. You can't cheese spawns into a burning mess quite as easily, but they still work as effectively as most non grenade kits provided you aren't on some awful combination like lolCondor with a trio of drells.

Thanks guys!

Maybe I'll try some out then. :)

Been mostly playing around with the human engineer, adept and vanguard so far.

On lower difficulties it works fine, for platinum you basically gimp yourself if you don't use it.

Good thing I'm far far away from platinum yet! ;)

If I don't equip Grenade Capacity on a grenade class and if I don't finish the game having 0 Thermal Clips, I believe I'm a disgrace of a soldier.

By the time you get there you should have the nade gear though, some people think it's so broken OP it should be removed or nerfed to the ground, but pay no attention to those scrubs :P

Good point I suppose. :)

I wish there was a way to unlock specific things. Hell, I'd be tempted to drop some cash for certain things (instead of just a random pack).

I miss the QFE for instance. Sure, I'll get her eventually I suppose but I remember really enjoying playing her on my xbox.

Yeah the RNG store is a bit frustrating at the start, but it could be a lot worse (just look at Dragon Age Inquisition, the MP store in that game is bad beyond words).

It's perfectly fine to go without grenade gear on a grenade kit. You just need to be a bit careful about spamming grenades, that is all. As long as you don't excessively spam them, you should be perfectly fine.

An alternative is to pick the 'increase capacity' evolution in the grenade trees. All grenade powers except arc, homing and NSB have an evo that increases the capacity by 2 (those three only increase by 1).

On PC I've spec'd my grenade kits with the +2 grenades evolution, which I'll go back and re-spec later once I get Grenade Gear.

4 grenades is a decent amount, but you have to be more selective in their use than you would be with 7 or 9.

Inferno Grenades are still OP even when only using 4, by the way.

Good point. Here's hoping I'll get some more fun stuff unlocked soon!

True, and as long as there's not a bunch of other grenade toting players in the same game the ammo boxes ought to help out a bit as well I suppose.

Taking that extra grenade evolution can be a tough call...but not for Lift Grenades, fortunately.  For Krogan Sentinels and Asari Vanguards rank 5 offers 2 extra grenades or longer lift duration (which is basically pointless compared to the alternative option).

I also take the extra Cluster grenade evo for the Drell Vanguard.  He's not necessarily a 'combo' detonation character, so the big 100% boost for combos doesn't play much of a role.  If I do execute a combo with him, it'll be a Pull --> Biotic Charge detonation...not via Clusters.

Whenever starting a new account for me with weak manifest weapons and mods, QME with even one extra nade capacity was always one of my to go kits. 3 nades is all this kit needs to rek Gold.

Playing grenade characters without GC is fine.  Where it gets somewhat annoying is when teammates are taking all of them for stim pack or repair matrix on maps with low grenade payout.  Of course in that scenario you shouldn't need as many, in theory.

OFC, it's called Geth Scanner, and is never a bad idea

Honestly any kit that takes 5A in their grenade tree is still effective w/o GC

^ Of course. Nades are that OP. ie. With QME, you can get two tech bursts off each nade to help conserve on them. You also don't have to worry about level one weapons being too heavy due to no manifest problems, because nades. And you can still get two tech bursts with heavier loadout on QME.

In that case, Asari Vanguard would be good option. Nice amount of grenades with power only.

And because it's uncommon drop, AV is rather easy to get even for new player/account.

The AV was actually the first kit I maxed out. She's fun too! And yeah, so far I've been doing OK with just her normal amount of grenades.

I feel your pain OP   ...on my new PS3 account..the only grenade gear I have is Shock Trooper 1 & Warfighter 1.

On grenade characters..I chose the extra nade evo......just gotta hit them ammo boxes faster

On xbox, (this is ludicrous) alot of the times I would use the geth scanner on grenade characters instead of GCV
