I'm playing as a KE and i often heard about Clean Burn. Cooldown reduction 1 second for every skill you cast. I don't know how good this seems to sound but 1 second CD reduction is useless no? When you activate a skill i think it's almost a second already. What's more there's spell animation too. Can anyone explain why is this so good or i will need to witness it for myself during play?

Also, is Elegant Defense good for KE? If i understand KE correctly, it's about trying to maintain the barrier as long as possible. But the problem is running out of Spirit charges. So there's no way to actually maintain it? If so then, my possible solution would be shorter Barrier cooldown.

I also played on friendly fire, which greatly discourages me to use CL. I read CL and Energy Barrage actually causes many hit and able to quickly fill up the spirit charges. Thanks for any tips

Lol who still spams Spirit Blade at this time and age? Move on to inferno pact + fire mine spam! Plus you can probably keep your barrier up just with basic attacks unless the enemy is immune to your staves' element (with pact belt of course).

I think Clean Burn is one of the best passives post Sky Hold. It's 1 second reduction per spell cast. For example, with a Rift Mage I can cast PotA to cluster and weaken, spam immolate with the no cool down upgrade and have my skills (PotA, Barrier, Stone Fist, etc) ready to go usually before I need them again. Factor in Flashpoint, which precedes CB, and you can get free spells which contributes to cold own reduction. It's a part of all my Mage builds.

For the KE, CB may not help repeated Spirit Blades but it can help your other spells like Fade Step, Fire Mine, etc. as mentioned above.

I never took Elegant D upgrade on KE, as I always had barrier for Viv. That was pre patch However.

Clean burn is really good on every specialization.

At some point on every mage you should not be auto attacking anymore and just be casting spells all the time. Clean burn is key to this.

If I'm casting at least a spell every second or so, that's a 1 second GLOBAL cooldown reduction every second.

This:

spam immolate with the no cool down upgrade

And this:

If I'm casting at least a spell every second or so, that's a 1 second GLOBAL cooldown reduction every second.

With practice, you can cast three Immolate/Consuming Fires in a single second -- bambambam. Mana becomes an issue, but you'll knock off 3 seconds worth of cooldown across all your abilities.

If you buff crit chance high enough, you get a double-dip effect from Flashpoint. You can get two spell casts for the price of one cooldown, which then fuels Clean Burn. I'm not sure if the Clean Burn reduction applies to Flashpoint's cooldown though ... great feedback loop if it does!

As for Elegant Defense, KE shouldn't have Barrier as an active at all beyond a certain XP level, but if you are not quite there yet, it might be worth it to help with Clean Burn. You just won't need to cast it on yourself.

thanks for all the great tips! but if NPCs have them set auto-cast that is dangerous with friendly fire no? also, the mana is the great issue. my KE always fight together with a tank. so is quite difficult to pull off the firemine without killing the tank. i have to set the shield wall on before casting it but that burning still is going to be a big problem.

Yes FF brings risk. In general, relying on the AI to do something smart is dice roll.
