I want to be able to create my character from scratch. i.e. choose race, class and skills... a la Dragon Age Inquisition. I guess I would be OK with another cmdr Shepard style character, but I'd prefer to have more freedom with character creation. I think the Mass Effect Universe is big enough to support this.

Aside from the lack of a race/species option in Mass Effect doesn't it already allow for what you're asking for? You still get to choose how you look, what gender you are, what class you'll play as and your skills as you level up. Only thing that isn't there is the species option. Unless I'm understanding you incorrectly.

These companies need to start pushing that technology where you can take a couple of pictures of your face from different angles and upload it to the  game. It's so much easier then than using sliders and ending up with a character that looks nothing like you.

If they give you multiple races it'll inevitably result in watered down content. I'd rather have a strong origin made for one race, than a bunch of meh shared out between 4.

As someone who would love to play something other than human in Mass Effect I have to sadly agree about this.

Yeah, it's sad. But the effort in making multiple meaningful back stories that are present thru the whole game would be huge. :(

Agreed, as much as I would love that I know it's very unlikely and most likely a huge resource strain. My best hope now is if maybe they make games later down the road that focus on another species and you get to play as them though that seems slim as well.

Yeah, I don't think that's happening any time soon. I'm just saying Dick Ryder would be a very popular name if they made "face" scanning an option :P

Also, I'd feel weird with using my own face in a game. Not really comfortable with self-inserts on that level.

I'm happy with DAI's cc and would like to see something similar in Andromeda. Just add face codes or another option to save/load faces, and let us choose hair and eyebrow colours with RGB instead of presets.

As of yet we haven't seen a decent hair selection, so that may be a while.

Isn't this what happened with DA:I? Everyone begged for multiple races to play as, then got irritated when they found out that to compensate they had to get rid of the character 'origin story'?

Thats exactly what I'm saying. I would love to be able to choose a species for my character. I love the Mass Effect franchise. I only wish it wasn't so centered around humanity.

Personnaly, I don't think that having a choice of race would water down the quality of content. After all, the backstory of cmdr Sheppard was resumed in answering only 3 or 4 questions during character creation. Plus, it doesn't have to influence the main story that much. Especially when we think of the premise of Andromeda where all of the Citadel Race come from the Milky Way galaxy. That can be the common ground instead of the humanity factor again.

I like Destiny's character creation screen.

I do not know what makes it stand out from other creation screens in other games, but for some reason, Destiny's is easy to work with. However you do the character creation, BioWare, make it easy like Destiny's creation screen.

neither would I. I prefer to create various different characters that make their own choices largely throughout the story. We know we're only able to play human in ME anyway so that's never bothered me but then I think the fact it was you being human only leads to a better story on the whole anyway at least in the original trilogy it did. Well for me it does anyway. Not that I'm knocking DA as that's a great series in it's own right as well but if I had to choose between the 2 though ME would win as I've always preferred that kind of story

not everyone wants to platy characters that look like them though.  Some prefer to create a character look that they have in mind or at least something similar and just have some fun.

The mass effect trilogy had one human PC and origin really didn't seem to matter past a couple of watered down side quests.

Hell yes, trying to communicate how you made a face in DA:I amounts to 'ok, so start in the middle...go left a bit, right a bit, now up.  No down, wait diagonal now...'

Blimey, give us a flipping code so we can steal each others faces like civilized ppl.

Yup.  Moral of the story, be careful what you wish for.

Not that I didn't like being a dwarf, it was great, but there wasn't much origin content there.

The Mass Effect universe is rich. I'm OK with the first ME story arc to be centered around humanity. Its was a good starting point. Its a fine introduction to discover that vast universe, to put it in other words. But now I want to experience it through different point of view.

As for the origin story quests, I thought they were perfectly fine the way they were dealt with. I wouldn't ask for more. I think it wouldn't lessen the quality of the main story, if its made not to bother too much with the origin of your character. It so happens that's precisely what it was in the ME games we all know and love.

All they need to do to fill in the gaps will be a psychological profile which asks you questions to help give out info on your backgrounds.

You will likely get a grab-bag of canned responses from the world because of it, but hey, it's something.

I'd rather have the option to play multiple races and leave the backstories vague or ambiguous. The more predefined the character's backstory, the less 'your' character it is.

The actual interface is nice and I like the modeling, but it's very limited on the options for the face, since it's strictly presets with no way to change anything but the colors.

I will say it untill I get it: sideburns options.

Baby face Shepard bugged the hell out of me.
