These companies need to start pushing that technology where you can take a couple of pictures of your face from different angles and upload it to the game. It's so much easier then than using sliders and ending up with a character that looks nothing like you.

Considering how unhappy I am with most photos of me already?

Id have to have a shave and spruce up while the games installing.

I envy you pretty people.

Hah!  Yup, instead of hours messing around with a CC, I'd spend hours applying make-up and trying to take the perfect selfie.

Then rage quit and go online to steal some model's snaps.

Oh good God no.  :o

Damn, think of the possibilities though.  Ppl would be running around as Hitler, Kim Kardashian, The Queen, Daniel Radcliffe....it would be horrifying.

The more character creation options we get the better. I also think character creation of some sort should be applied for the alien races in MP.

And here I thought most posts would be about the hair options.

Please, Bioware, do something about it. I know it's never been their strong point, but DA:I has been abysmal even by their standards.

If you think surface scans of real world objects simply require a couple of photos from different angles, you are sadly mistaken. The reason company's can't push this is simple. IT DOESN'T EXIST.

If VFX houses or game studios use real world objects as a baseline they either model them by hand or you specialized scanners. Those scanners work with lasers to measure surfaces for distance etc. But if you get objects from scratch like that, where do you get your textures? Your reflection maps? Where are your rigging points? Which part is able to move? How would you scan your hair? It's not as easy as people always think it is.

If you want your mug in a game, learn to 3D model and implement it yourself.

I've come to the conclusion that everyone at BioWare is hair-phobic.  They have never ever had a good selection of hair styles.  Don't even get me started on femShep in ME1.

I would seriously go over there and create some styles for free.

How about a slightly messy ponytail?  Sounds easy, basic enough.  But nope.  We get a super slicked back severe pony tail that sits at an odd angle on their heads.  No wispy bits or a fringe or anything.

What about a guy's style that kinda long and a bit messy, but not girly.  Nope, we get 'super high forehead' guy, or 'stole his aunt's hairstyle' guy.

Actually it does, Fury Road and Unreal's tech demos and various other things have been using PhotoScan to generate models from photographs. Though using only a couple will give you pretty wacky results.

Applying it to a game face in real time and then expecting that to work with facial animations is something else entirely though.

True, but there are still issues with that. And they use other kinds of camera's than a crappy point and shoot. If you want anything detailed the last time I checked you needed to take HDR images. But maybe they are further along now.

Laser scanners are still more precise and give you a better result overall. Even if there were no other issues the way those photographs are taken (especially for geometric structures like faces) is still way too complicated for a adaptation for users.

And as I said rigging? Plus you have to map materials for different parts of the face which the software also can't do.

It's just a mug.... why do you even want that?

Because as is clearly outlined in the thread, it was never included. Wether that was oversight or laziness on the part of the devs is up for debate and is ultimately for other people to decide for themselves but it was never there.

I suspect it will have DAI's revolting CC with slight improvements.

Like, one good hair style as opposed to none, or something.

I'm not trying to start an argument about whether it's applicable here I'm pointing out that it exists. You said that it doesn't, in capital letters. But yes apparently it is better than the last time you checked.

For the record, which Bioware game made you worry you won't be able to?

Hey BioWare! Think about this now:

since only humans have hair in the ME universe (except perhaps the quarians and volus... but they have helmets anyway), if you allow us to play other species, you wouldn't have to do more hairstyles than whats was already decided.

EVERYBODY WINS!

I suspect the hair will be better going into MEA especially as they've had longer to play with the engine and systems now and if modders can give us decent hair which they have done for DAI I'm pretty sure Biowaer can. Admittedly there is swome clipping but they do work for the most part

Hopefully.  Then again I thought that before DA:I, that they'd be inspired by the modded hair of DA:O and DA2, but that didn't happen.

I actually really don't either. I checked on the software (among other picture based geometry creators) a couple of years back. And back then it wasn't usable in for anything serious. That's why I said it doesn't exist because in real terms a software solution doesn't exist, at least nothing you can use in a production pipeline. That has changed though. Arguably a real solution still doesn't exist since that process would take more than a couple of sliders to pull to get anything usable. (among other things)

Anyway, thanks for pointing out that it has come further along than I thought!

I would like to have an in-game setting, or some other easy process, that would allow all players to post their customized character to a Bioware Forum thread, including the CC code that made their Protagonist look so good. So far I've only seen 2 websites that post Character pix that have been modded. I guess it's simple enough to take a screen shot in-game, crop and edit it, then post it. I'm favoring a more streamlined 1-click process from within the game. Just wondering.  I have not not yet reviewed the threads available in the Forums for ME1-3 for CC pix posts, so perhaps there are already threads that exist for such purposes.
