Ah good to know. I had heard that his romance doesn't "lock in" the same way as the others, so f!Lavellan romancing him doesn't register her as "romanced" so the Dorian/Bull romance never initiates. Bull must be holding out hope against reason.
Not sure if I am reaing you correctly, so forgive me if I have misunderstood. The Solas romance DOES "lock-in", after he breaks it off with F!Lavellan. Because of that, she can not initiate another romance even after being dumped. However, there is an opportunity on that last "date", for Lavellan to break up first. If she does, then she is free to start another relationship. Though, if I remember correctly, due to the lateness of this happening, Cullen and Josie may be the only two left available as romance options. Someone else may have better info on that, than myself.
You're correct. If you wait to break up with Solas until that last "date" in Crestwood, it will happen after What Pride Has Wrought. At that point, there aren't even any interactive conversation options with the companion characters. All you get is "goodbye". You can begin a romance with Cullen or Josie after that, but I imagine it would be rather abbreviated.

I feel like we'll be in the minority, but i agree. (You were joking? Then i guess i'm the only one who actually feels that way.) Don't like using characters for sex or flirting with multiple people. I pick one and stick with it. I put a lot of myself in the game so that includes how i flirt/romance someone.
That is one thing to consider. Can you have sex with their inner beauty and feelings?
Actually, i think you can if that's what attracts you.

I've said as much a few times in the thread... Well, I don't consider the thread "offensive," and I think that's getting carried away, but I'm not fond of looking at the romances in that way.
I don't even like the guy and I think the excessive use of "ride the Bull" is unfortunate, particularly when that plays into some of the issues he has with himself, according to remarks by Cole. I think both Dorian and Bull, with their Inquisitor and with each other, have been over sexualized by the fandom in general. Of course, that's not to say that sex is bad; they're both adults, like sex, and have it willingly with whatever partner. My Inquisitor enjoys his own sexy times with Dorian. But I do think that the emphasis on it is a bit overwrought on occasion.
But people are going to play the game in whatever way they want, and there will always be players who want to use the various LI in this way. You can find the silver lining and look at the ability to do so in a positive way by saying that it's a result of the nuance and complexity that Bioware has built into the romances. If we just take the Iron Bull romance as an example, a player very well might start a romance with him, become uncomfortable with the sexual aspect of it, and move on because of that as any real person would do. The ability to do that is a good thing, I think.

Okay yeah I think we're saying the same thing. I meant that the game flags don't treat a Solas romance the same as the other romances, so even if we're in a romance with him, the Dorian/Bull romance never initiates because the game doesn't recognize that the PC isn't single, and therefore Bull could still be romanceable. I think you've disproven that thought, it must have been incorrect information that I had heard on the treatment of the Solas romance.
Regardless, I now know that once Solas romance is locked in, that's it! Except for maybe Cullen or Josie.
Well now we know Blackwall is Jewish... ![]()
If you have sex with Blackwall, you are locked into the romance and can't romance anyone else. Even if you break up after Revelations.
I know, it isn't ideal. This, like when Solas dumps Lavellan after the Arbor Wilds, is the perfect opportunity to role-play moving on and finding a different romance, but it isn't possible. Sadly.
Also, I can't help thinking that a better title might have been "All I want from Blackwall is sex." The difference is subtle, but significant.
This did not happen to me. I was in a "serious" relationship with Blackwall but had been kind of flirting with Cullen the whole time. After Revelations, I broke up with him and then was able to romance Cullen right away (I actually got pretty much all of the cut scenes one right after the other) and finished the game with him. Even before breaking up with Blackwall I got an option with Cullen to start a romance but if you pick it then he makes a comment about you and Blackwall being together.
Quit bullshitting us. You know you want to climb the Wall.
DAI meets Tom of Finland
So Thom Rainier lies. You act like that is a big problem. Almost all the characters we have met in the Dragon Age franchise has some skeletons they want to keep in the closet.
In Origins, you have Morrigan who was really only after Urthemiel's soul and she did not tell you this until the very end and leaves if you decide to not acquiesce to her. You also have Leliana who is not very forthcoming about her past until a certain plot point in the story.
In 2, you have Isabela who essentially lies about why she was at Kirkwall until the Qunari war and she might not even be back after obtaining the Tome. Apart from her, who can forget Anders, who obfuscates about obtaining some exotic materials right up until he blows the Kirkwall Chantry.
In Inquisition, you have Bianca who mucked up bad time be leaking the location of Bartrand's Folly, you have Solas who messed up the world in a fundamental way and plans to do so again and you have Vivienne trying to get into your good graces for the sole purpose of acquiring power for herself.
Despite all this, there are many who romance Morrigan, Isabela, Anders and Solas. But Blacknier is bad because he lied and has decided to atone for it ? Bullfreakingshite.
Sure, be upset at him for a while but after a time, one should get over it. Besides, in my opinion, Blackwall is the best straight female love interest in the game. There are multiple reasons for this.
1) He actually looks manly and masculine unlike pretty boy Cullen. He does not need to style his hair to look good, all he needs to do is take his clothes off.
2) He is all about forgiveness, giving people second chances and is all around rather chill.
3) He is accepting of all women from all races, unlike Cullen and Solas.
4) He does not sleep around like Iron Bull. Far less chance to get an STD.
5) He does not assume to know the protagonist's sexual preference like Iron Bull does. Screw your Ben-Hassrath training Bull, my female Inquisitor does not like to be dominated.
6) He has the least amount of character BS. All you have to deal with when it comes to Blacknier is that he made a very bad decision once and that's it. He is not a recovering drug addict like Cullen or a soldier with PTSD like Iron Bull who is from an oppressive cult out for world dominance or a demigod who screws with reality with messy results like Solas. He is just a guy who made one awful decision and decides to atone for it.

1) LOL, wut?
2) I don't know any companion character who wouldn't consider giving people second chances. Even Cassandra who takes the news about Blackwall poorly at first, eventually gets over it. Dorian can forgive his father. Sera can let the noble at Verchel live. Leliana can be softened. Solas can let the mages who tortured the his friend live. Cullen has obviously let go of his raging mage-hating boner, and will even romance a mage.
3) Does this make Bull better because he's accepting of all races and sexes and sexual orientations?
4) I suppose you haven't had the discussion with a non romanced Blackwall who admits to utilizing the services of prostitutes on several occasions while going through his pity party years
5) It goes without saying that the only inquisitor that hooks up with IB is the type who wants it. IB doesn't force it on the PC, and frequently makes sure it's what the PC wants.
6) Yes, Blackwall murdered a man and his family, but I wouldn't say "that's it." He also ran away, and then allowed every man under his command suffer for it. Only until late in the game does Blackwall even consider taking responsibility for it. Had the soldier never been caught, would Blackwall have come forward? Also, I think what people take real offense to is the idea that Blackwall hits and quits. Not cool for such a chill guy
. In Cullen's case, he is doing something remarkable by keeping clean, and seems to have very little baggage regarding his addiction. I also don't think PTSD is something one should be shamed for. He has his past, but all in all, Cullen has coped very well with the stress (the inquisitor doesn't have to spend much time "fixing" him). In Bull's case, one cannot help the culture one is born into. Plus, guided "correctly" Bull can change.
For my part, I don't think there is necessarily a "best" objective romance. Even subjectively, I don't think there is. My favorite is Cullen's romance, while my least favorite is actually Solas's romance. Blackwall is somewhere in the middle, though the one I've romanced the most with 3 different characters.

You raise some excellent points. I'm not sure it's necessary to tear down someone else's ship to make them, but in Blackwall's case - he gets way more than his share of hate from a very vocal part of the fandom - the desire to do so is certainly understandable. None of the romances are inherently more ethical than any of the others, as much as fans will argue otherwise. Everyone has a past. Some of the characters are just better at making it sound good.
The criticism that really annoys me is the "old man" one. We're seldom told the canon age of characters, but if he is older than Cassandra, it isn't by more than a year or two. He is certainly younger than Leliana. It's just that he doesn't get the Ageless Female Makeover , so he's allowed to look his age. Varric is about the same age he is, and if Varric had a beard, he'd look just as grizzled. The reason this annoys me isn't that Blackwall looks 40. It's that Cassandra and Leliana don't. They should. Leliana's Song is set before Dawn of the Seeker, so both women would have been at least 18 in 9:21 Dragon. But standards of beauty being what they are, Maker forbid that a 40 year old woman should actually look her age. Ah, well, even now, some people age more gracefully than others. But don't slap the "old" label on Blackwall without applying it equally to Cassandra, Leliana, Varric, and Vivienne. And if you're going to say that to Vivienne, warn me first so I can get out of range.
