Genre: Cyberpunk but with (some) magic and fantastical creatures. I hesitate to call it "science fantasy" because it would be heavily focused on the sci-fi elements.

Setting: A sprawling metropolis made up of many distinct districts. I love my games to be as atmospheric as they are story rich and character driven so there would be a lot of detail to the world in order to bring it to life. Phrases like "expansive" and "open world" often turn me off. Personality and substance > size and game length.

Themes: Identity; tradition/culture vs social entropy; corruption; social and technological apathy; corporatocracy, authoritarianism, and police brutality. Heavy, sure, but humor would be mandatory--both dark and light-hearted.

Gameplay: I'm a tabletop gamer at heart so choice is important to me in RPGs. The more subtle the choices the better. No morality system, just a lot of consequences. There would also be a lot of freedom to handle things the way you want to, whether it's through diplomacy, stealth, intimidation, blackmail, violence, etc. Combat would be real time with the ability to pause and focused on strategy over pure action. It would be challenging, and particularly punishing for players who are reckless. There would be the option to lower the difficult for those who just wish to enjoy the story though.

PC and companions: Customize the player character how you want to play the game. Choose your name, gender, appearance, race, and a small amount of background information that would affect how NPCs react to you. There would be several "ability trees" but no classes. Companions would be optional if you want to go lone wolf, but they would be as well written and varied as those from Bioware's games. However, your actions affect their actions towards you. Behave so completely against their personal ideals and they may leave, confront, or betray you. Some might betray you anyway. People be people, yo.

NO: Tedious fetch quests, resource gathering, visually pleasing but empty environments, or obnoxiously elaborate crafting systems. The crafting system would probably be limited to cybernetic augmentations and some weapon enhancements.

Yeah, I guess you could say I'm excited for Cyberpunk 2077 because it may be the closest I get to this in video game form!

You've played the Shadowrun games, right ? The combat is pretty easy and turn-based rather than real time, but otherwise you're describing SR: Dragonfall and Hong Kong almost perfectly.

Anyone else think that RWBY would make for an amazing RPG?

As great as the series is, there's only so much animation can show of the world of Remnant, compared to how detailed they could delve into the lore if they adapted or expanded the story into a videogame setting.

Having a game set at one of the other combat academies, rather than Beacon, would be a good way to keep it separate and avoid retreading the same story beats as the main series, while allowing players to experience the world and other nations only mentioned in passing.

Would be incredible if Rooster Teeth ever chose to pursue such a project.

I think an interesting setting could be a game set in Victorian era London at the time of the Whitechapel murders.

The main character would initially be a member of either the City of London Police or The Metropolitan Police (male), the two organizations that investigated Jack the Ripper murders, or a pistol-packing member of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committe (female). The game wouldn't entirely be historical however, and during the course of the game the main character would discover that the murders were the work of vampires prowling London's East End. The murders would also be connected to the Spring-heeled Jack hysteria, with those myths turning out not to be myths at all.  The main character would be thought mad as they started to pursue a supernatural cause for the killings, leading to him or her forced to pursue the killer(s) outside official channels, or without the aid of the Vigilance Committee.

Along the way you'd pick up a cast of Victorian era characters as companions who have their own reasons for pursuing the murderer(s), inspired by characters from fiction from that era, or from some the historical eccentrics from the 19th Century or the turn of the 20th Century. A female horror novelist/poet loosely based on a mashup of Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe, a female 19th Century spiritualist/medium, a male Old West gunfighter turned vaudeville performer, a male character loosely based on Dr. Watson with an Indian manservant based on Gunga Din, a character based on Mata Hari, a Whitechapel resident and veteran of the British Army inspired by Tommy Atkins.

I think this is a game that I would love to play.

About Cyberpunk 2077, does anybody have any idea whether that's going to be a more set protagonist, or if it'll have gender options?

They said it would have pretty extensive character customization. This article also says "We are focused on the main character and his problems, or her problems." So it looks like you can chose your gender as well.
