I played a Gold match against Colelctors this week. For most of the match it was only Xan and I.

I was using a mid-level Jugg, but with maxed Fitness and DR from SP.

I believe I was also using Shield Booster II, so my Shields were around 490 and health was 2300.

Those freaking aliens made me look like a Human Adept but can't roll!!! Their damage output was so much higher than anything I've seen on Gold so far.

It was a very frustrating match where we failed a w10 (devices, last one).

Certainly an experience I don't want to repeat that soon...

One question: what is Collector Protocol?

They just have so much damn armor......If you are going with juggles..I suggest taking incid ammo and siege pulsing them back to hell..To me, they have the best mook level enemies in the game...I suggest .concentrate on them 1st..but stay aware of where the praetorianz & scionz are...I get so angry when something is down to half-armor or less then it goes and gets possessed...It's like come on man, I just chewed thru all that armor....ughghghghg...

I'd say biotics are better against collectors. Powers like reave, dark channel, and warp will devastate them since they are all very effective to all the barriers and armor. Of course biotics are what I play with most of the time so that's how I approach them. If you want to use the juggy, definitely spam siege pulse and take some ammo round that will chew through armor. It also might help if your juggy is fully leveled up.....also a full team to help cuz a duo against collectors almost always ends badly.

edit-Kill collector captains when they are possessed. They're the ones that will drop you fast.

Do they replenish armor/health too when possessed? I thought they only got full barriers.

I was levelling up Soliders and the Jugg was the best option I had. And the match was public but people were not joining :/

Collectors hit hard. Very hard. Wall of text incoming....

Some general things to help you with collectors:

1. Always check your six. Praetorians are sneaky and given their bugged sync-kill (like phantoms and atlases) and huge size, it can be difficult to escape. Seeker plagues and swarms are pretty dangerous too and often hit you from behind.

2. Focus on abombs. All but waves 6 and 8 of collectors have abombs, and focus on killing them. They are worth 40 points to the wave budget (which is a lot for such an enemy). To put things in perspective, killing 3 abombs is equivalent to killing 1 praetorian (120 pts) as far as wave depletion is concerned. Check the resource library for budget points for all enemies.

3. When a praetorian fires a lazer or launches missiles, take hard cover. Soft cover doesn't always work. Hard cover works VERY well (you might take some damage if you're too close to the edge, but it's better than standing out in the open and dying, and then complaining). Or you can move around and trick the crab into lazering else where. Same thing for scions, if the first blast hits you in soft cover, move or dodge to avoid the other rounds hitting you.

4. The best faction for headshots. Praetorians have a 2x multiplier to headshots while all bosses have only 1.4x and praetorians are FAR easier to headshot than the other three. Even the troopers and captains have gigantic heads, making for easy headshots. Shoot scions in the sacs for spike damage. Praetorians are also the easiest boss to stagger, and constantly headshotting them will cause them to tumble giving much needed space and time.

5. Keep on the move. Collectors are excellent at trapping you with grenades, lazers, seekers, etc. Don't stay in the open for too long.

6. A trick to deal with possessed  scions - if you are in soft cover, it'll lob grenades, flush you out and pummel you with it's cannon. Since it alternates between grenades and cannon, stand in the open next to a soft cover when it's about to throw nades (now, the nades are in the open and the cover is free!). Then go back into cover and use RHA. Rinse and repeat. Works well most of the time (susceptible to lag).

7. For isolated scions and poss. scions, go close and trigger its melee attack and back away immediately and start shooting. This way, the scion is a big puppet as it doesn't shoot or lob grenades during that time. Dance around the scion and make it look like a dummy (doesn't always work off host)

8. Praetorians have a cap unlike other bosses. Only 3 can spawn on wave 3, only 6 on waves 6 and 8. (not sure about w10 and w11). Check in the resource library for these.

9. You can trick seeker swarms into blowing up. Go close and when you see it vibrate, dodge or move back to avoid the explosion. You can do it with plagues too but you need to time it well and you need to have a dodge (preferably one that covers long distances in short time).

10. If you're on PS3, pray!

I guess I played a Plat Collector, but more as shotgun than anything else as I don't have firepower to help on Plat yet, and I noticed this.

The worst about Collectors are mooks and Plat is mostly bosses.

I disagree, I find them very annoying on platinum (geth are worse though).

Reapers and Cerberus are easier than Collectors.

Yeah, those Collector tips are things all Collector fans must know. Was gonna give him heck if he forgot the Scion melee range trick. But he did forget;

- the Praetorian melee range trick to get them to drop so you can use powers (unless you have a lot of penetration. Then put the bubble up for extra hit or hits. Or if you're the only one weapon focus on the team and you want to steal more epeen points from power focus teammates, then put the bubble up, son).

- Flipping a Praetorian with enough dps to get it to drop still doesn't register it as on the ground so it doesn't put up it's bubble, meaning it will but up that bubble.

- If you anticipate the lazer just right, you can dodge most if not all of it's dmg with a dodge (ie. great for Smash cancels).

- if a Vanguard, you'll be safe from sync kill to charge it while it's doing it's lazer or rockets. But then you might have to worry about more lazers. So dodge or bonus power charge or ops or something (I forget, but it's fun).

- I also enjoy tanking Praetorian right in front of them only to watch it buttlazer my teammates instead. Happens so many times. It's great. I love Praetorians so much.

I'll add the PS3 tips I remember. Kill all bees & spider webs. Nuke all wave 8 double Praetorians (something I've seen no one do last time I was on PS3. I was the only one wasting all my rockets on them as fast as possible. And sometimes they were needed for last objective). But in general, I find the longer matches are on PS3 (even without Collectors), memory leak kicks in more and more.

Good news: Collector Plat is the easiest of all factions.

Depends on the kit and weapon. If you have a Venom for example, Cerberus is by far the easiest faction to beat.

One question: what is Collector Protocol?

The Collector Protocol can fix most problems that most people have with Collectors. This works only on Gold & Silver Collectors only. The Collector Protocol is this:

  • Nuke (missile) waves that have 2 Pratorians per wave such as W8. Each Praetorian can only spawn 3 times, due to the Praetorian spawn cap. The goal is to remove all 6 crabs form the field as quick as possible.
  • Nuke all crabs w6 and w10 if the objectives take longer than 2 minutes to complete.
  • Focus on Captains to prevent them from creating Seeker Swarms/Plaques.
  • Focus on abomination when they are present they are easy to kill and deplete the spawn budget quite fast.
  • This protocol will not work 100% of the time but is does allow you at least finish your game and not worry about a system freeze as much. I tested this and got 90% success rate. You will eventually have to reboot.

^ I also forgot about the Praetorian head cover that covers the head husks. Penetrating that before it falls acts as a double hit too.

And really, they are the most fun faction for me. Hope after learning these tricks better too, you too will become a fan of them.

Collectors are rather interesting faction in that you either hate them or like them. At best of times, matches against them are easy and painless. But at worst, Collectors are utter nightmare, especially on PUG games.

Though for me, Collector troopers and captains are the worst. They do so much damage, especially if there are 2-3 of them rushing at you, while shooting. This is why there is one rule I got against Collectors. Kill troopers and captains with extreme prejudice right away.

Also, fun fact. If you look at enemy faction masteries, Collectors are most balanced faction on gold, when it comes to getting challenges done.

My random Collector thoughts:

Seekers Swarms and Seeker Plagues are totally OP. Inconsistent hiboxes + massive bullet sponginess = frustration. I like to keep them cleared out even on platforms (XBOX, PC) that don't suffer from Collector memory leaks.

Collector weapons have a noticeable sound, and the CSMG has visible tracers. So you can use that to keep track of the Troopers and Captains... unless your teammates are using CSMG (or CAR I guess) in which case it gets confusing.

Praetorians... how can you be so quiet? Also shockingly fast. Don't be afraid to missile even a single Praetorian if that's the difference between a synch-kill or surviving.

Scions sounds like pigs squealing. This doesn't affect gameplay at all but now that I've told you, you'll never be able to NOT hear it!

I want to stress this point: On PS3 you need to missile all double crab waves, so pretty much all spawns on 5 and 8 should be missiled.

You need to keep them off the field as much as possible so they don't have a chance to charge up their ultimate stasis attack (which will happen occasionally regardless)

Edit: XAN was in a gold match that wiped? Doesn't sound too believable, that must have been one horrid device location

2nd Edit: The Juggy is in no way as invincible vs Gold Collectors or any Platinum faction as BSN would have you believe. It is really important to not get caught in open areas as once you get surrounded and can't move you're screwed. As long as you keep moving to prevent yourself from getting surrounded, then intelligent play should keep you upright

To repeat an old friend of mine: "I'd rather get f***ed in the a** by a hobo with AIDS than play against that cancer of a faction again." It's not verbatim, but it's mostly accurate; I don't have that message anymore. I'm sure though that the message contained "Fabulous Romance™" somewhere, too.

It went like this (Dagger Hazard, Collectors, Gold): Czeuch and I got to w8 as a duo. We used the Collector protocol so we were pretty much out of nukes. Pug joins on wave 9. Wave 10: loldevices. I do 3 of the devices while czeuch gets swarmed as he is a slow juggy (as you said in your post). He ran out of gels and died. Last device is on the barrels left to number 3 on this map. The pug runs straight up there, luring every enemy to the device. He dies over and over again, wastes all 6 of his gels and nukes, and more importantly, our time. When he finally bled out, I started kiting the enemies away, but I had like 30 seconds left. Ran around the map to the device, but a troll scion stunned me off of it and we ran out of time. Not blaming the pug cause he's a decent gold player, but I wish they understood the game mechanics a bit better.

That's very well described. It wasn't Xan's fault at all. I couldn't help much for many reasons, the main one being lack of experience, mainly against Collectors, and also my manifest still sucks quite a bit.

There was no way to get cover from the direction where the Scion was. He was at the entrance of the central area, coming down from the 2 exits from the indoors area. They had clear line of sight of the device. It was very close, though.

It was the second time I saw that guy this week.

@XAN: there are some things that only those to invest time studying will know. I wouldn't know about the collector protocol if I didn't ask what it was. This place here is a great source of information.

Even though the game was launched in 2012, this forum is still very active :)
