Terms are used so loosely around here, they tend to loose their meaning. Retcon, reboot, deus ex machina. They might as be just shorthand for "change I like/change I don't like."

Deus Ex Machina apparently now means plot element that was introduced at the start of a work but not sufficiently foreshadowed in ME1's codex.

The only tie-ins I want are some journal logs. Beyond that, it's a waste to call it a reboot if they start slavishly carrying over ME3 bull crap. Please, no. This would be huge mistake.

My theory for ME:A is that the "Ark" takes place during ME3.. During ME1 Sovereign is destroyed and the Reaper tech from that Reaper is collected and studied, then in ME2 they find the collector ship in which Shep makes the comment that "they could harvest all of Earth and still have room to spare". My theory is that the "Ark" ship starts being built after these findings and is modeled after the Collector ship and retro-fitted with Reaper tech... After the loss of Thessia, the Asari counselor mentions that "they have preparations to make for continuing/prolonging life". If the ship with the new protag leaves during this point, the ending choice of ME3 won't matter beyond a side note in the codex noting what happened during the end of the Reaper War (Control/Destory/Synthesis/Nothing Liara's holotape message regarding the defeat).. I am hoping that Bioware leaves the Shep trilogy out of this new installment for the simple fact that Shep story is over and there is no need to dwell on Shep's story, it's time to move on and begin a new story..

Reboots absolutely suck. The original trilogy deserves a continuation.

Agreed. But only if ME3 gets removed from cannon.

We're more or less going to get some sort of "rebootquel". Andromeda will follow ME3 chronologically, but references to the Shepard Trilogy will be kept vague due to (insert plot device here).

They should reference some stuff from the original trilogy.

Yes please, the further away we get from that travesty of an ending the better.

I think I'd prefer a retconned deus ex machina reboot.

wait... Why would they remove ME3 from being canon? What about future sequels to MEA?

Unless they enter a dimensional rift and emerged in an alternate universe.

BSN where terms go to die :P

Where approval seeking and ego feeding can execute aesthetics with indolent thought.

----

There is no need for a reboot. Hopefully, Andromeda begins at some point during ME3 with Liara's Galactic Record along for the ride.

I'm not the only one upset with how ME3 ended up. Not just about the ending. Why I want a clean break from ME1-3 plot wise. Unless they retcon part 3 as a bad dream...

Agreed. I don't even want to be reminded about the events of the trilogy. I guess Andromeda takes place long after ME3? I think we came there in soem kind of generation-ship or using cryo-tech, and the journey took decades, maybe centuries? If so, I hope they started BEFORE the Reapers attacked, and nobody knows anything about red/blue/green and all that stupidity. I also do not want characters to like worshipping THE SHEPARD or telling grand tales about how Shepard punched newsreporters etc...

A clean start, almost as if nothing happened before. People not agreeing with this can freely headcanoning things, as I was forced to do after the cringeworthy ending to ME3. Took me two years to get over it, but my therapist said I was ready to post again on Mass Effect related topics ... though would be easier without the damn straightjacket of course, but I have time ... letter by letter ...

Why?

However, from the 2nd teaser video, they have a recording of Shep wishing them goodbye..

On the balance of things, I decided to consciously purge all memory of Mass Effect 3. This is all that remains.

Mac and Casey made such a mess of concluding the trilogy, a reboot sans the pair of them sounds great to me.

Mac is the creative director for ME:A and has been long before ME:A was officially announced.

I agree, I don't won't Andromeda's plot to even acknowledge Shepard or his accomplishments. I don't want any cameos either, as far as I'm concerned Shepard's trilogy never happened, ME3 ruined everything.

Hm, that would be the only thing to sway me I guess - especially if she says stuff like "Geez, how we kicked those Reapers in their butts! Glad I figuered out last minute they wanted to trick us with this boy-hologram and the indoctrination-nonsense, but instead I just snapped out of it, woke up in the rubble of that destroyed city, used the Crucible and so we fried them all to cuttlefish-pieces! Good times, and after that I spend my days with my friends celebrating and I have no clue why I am telling you this, youngster, but never believe kids in hoodies, they are evil!  And always kill the badguys - always choose red! And now go and save some galaxy!"

I feel like most of the people in here don't even know what a reboot is.

ME2 is a reboot, in the sense that if you have had an alternative ME2 about Shepard starting up and running his own red sand drug cartel it would've had as much to do with ME1 and the overarching plot as the one we got, which is to say, absolutely nothing.
