The ME:A section is terrible. Half the time, people are ranting about romance discussion and the other half they're shouting about how terrible the game will certainly be. The ironic thing is, most of the threads with romance in the name are joke threads, making fun of romantic discussion themselves. Often enough, people don't get the joke and decide to start complaining #notadatingsim #lonelypatheticfanbase #shouldntbecateringtoeveryminority

It's all so dreary.

I don't play the ME games. With that in mind, which fanbase is worse about the romances? DA or ME?

I think that a huge percentage of the vocal opposition to romance content is virtue signaling: "See, I'm not one of those pathetic losers who can only get sex through video games! I'm so awesome irl that I don't need that!" Also, it seems to me that the more someone complains about pandering, the more they want to be pandered to. Just my observations, for whatever it's worth.

That's hard to say, especially because my current experience with the ME fanbase is one where nobody really has anything substantial to discuss in that section other than whether or not we believe the game will be terrible. Also, the off topic closure meant that a lot of people who only participated in the off topic section have now migrated to the ME section by default, whether or not they actually care about discussing ME.

I'm still going to say the ME fanbase is worse, though. They are crazy intense, and as both a collective and individuals they can't seem to decide whether they're irrationally obsessed with the romances or irrationally opposed to them.

They also love parody threads. I mean, the section really, really loves parody. They started this thing early on, Someone made a "(___ character) in ME:A. Thoughts?" thread. So people started parodying that. A few were a little funny, but before long the section was full of different versions of, "___ in ME:A. Thoughts?"

Plus, there is a lot of troll vs. troll combat there. Sometimes the trolls seem like they can't decide which side can potentially grant them the chance to get on the most people's nerves, and then they keep trying to out troll one another. It's funny occasionally, but usually it's not. All the most earnest and thoughtful discussion is drowned out by snark and condescension.

I think you're right. It's a way to distinguish themselves from lesser gamers, or all the lame sentimentalists who like something as sappy as romance.

"Useless," they call it. As though any roleplaying option in an rpg doesn't primarily have the same use. To provide roleplaying options. Such a weird fanbase.

I think most of the problems with the Andromeda section will sort out once Bioware releases some actual information on the game. I think the biggest reason why it's such a bizarre mad house at the moment is just the lack of anything substantial to discuss. That leads to people amusing themselves with off-topic discussions or trolling, and all the various toggle threads get to 40+ pages and stay on the main page because there is nothing else to compete for attention.

Some of the troll threads, Thoughts? discussions, and toggle requests would probably still exist if there was more information on the game, but they'd quickly fall a few pages back and be forgotten as people discussed or ranted about the game's actual features.

Maybe it's that those who hate the romance aspect of ME are default trolls anyway!

Well, I'm not one to bash others - I prefer to not take the bait and not respond, or give any credence to their immature stupidity. Enough of my venting for a while.

I'm new to this group (thank you Lady Artiface!) and wish to say hello.

^ You have no idea how many times Ive written out a long, irritated response about something or other (not only romances, but various issues over the years), only to delete it rather than post. It is sometimes cathartic just to get it out, even if it seems like a wasted effort.

I do that all the time, too. Really often. I'll have three paragraphs ready to do, and then I just think...Who the hell cares? I come here to participate in discussion I actually enjoy. Sometimes I forget that I end up drawn into discussions that just frustrate and distress me.

Still if someone is irritating me beyond all measure, it does sometimes make a difference to write out why, even if they never see it.

First just want to say thanks for the invite to the group.

Now seems to be the time for the silliness to flourish in the Andromeda forum, but i think and hope that much of it will disappear once we find out where in the timeline Andromeda fits. Then we should know how the ME3 ending is going to be dealt with. I'm just glad that the "what can Bio learn from x " threads seem to have died down a little.

Sometimes i do that just to vent, and immediately remove it to make sure i don't post it. People are sapping my strength, and will to live! Ok that was overly dramatic. I just want to stay positive and be hopeful, but the Internet doesn't really encourage that.

I've started just avoiding certain threads altogether. People have their views about certain characters and things, and nothing I write will change them. Reading the posts either irritates or upsets me, so I just attempt to limit myself. It doesn't always work, but I do try.

I keep my messenger contact link closed because of all the rude and insulting people in the Forums. Nasty insulting notes can mess with my head and I'm not here to be a target - just want to contribute constructive ideas too, and learn all I can about ME-1,2,3 and Andromeda. Twice I have posted that a certain thread should be shut down, but I'm not going to waste my time with this anymore. I'm not a moderator and shouldn't try to act like one.

Back in the 1980's there was a great TV police drama "Hill Street Blues." The squad sergeant always told the officers after roll call, "Let's be careful out there." Words to the wise.

I'd like to think that any game forum gets terrible during an info slump and around release of the game, but ME forums always take the cake. As far as I remember, it was the ME3 forum that got the entire BSN locked. And a quick search shows ME3 has more pages of locked threads (300+) than DA2. ME is a shooter at first glance, so it draws both more fans and trolls into the forums than DA.

The best thing is not to engage, but sometimes I just have to. When I see threads like "ME is unrealistic, because gays can't be soldiers/homosexuality will be fixed by 2200," or "I want to kill Anders for flirting with me," or the endless threads about pandering and the ME3 ending, I get a -3days to life expectancy.

Anyhow, it will get better once BW starts releasing stuff, but brace yourselves for the release window. It's gonna be annoying.

(also, thanks for the invite and hello!)

I don't know about the ME fanbase (I've never played it, despite what it says in my profile). There were certainly parody threads in the DA section, some of which I responded to anyway because I thought the topic was interesting. But I can't abide nastiness and haven't waded into the forums for months. Some of us took our crush on Abelas' shiny thighs and formed out own group so we can stoke our peculiar obsessions unhindered by haters.

Well I've never gotten a death threat from participating in the DA community, so I guess they win out by default

Was that in the old Miranda thread?

If so, I'm pretty sure I know who you are talking about.

It's pretty telling that a lot of people have their own "death threat in the ME forums" story...

I haven't received death threats, but I have been directly insulted in that section more than anywhere else. I was once accused of being "the ultimate spambot."

lol. Oh, boy.

Sorry, that's not funny. That was very wrong of them. Some fans can become way too devoted to specific in-game races.

Well, I've been actively posting only a little over a month, and it's the ME board where I've been accused of peddling silly sexual identity politics (which I find kinda amusing).

Is it odd that I feel left out of not having any kind of odd threats or name calling like that? Maybe I'm not posting enough in the ME section.

Okay yes it is odd. I'll go ahead and leave the vent thread for those who actually need it here's some sweets for you lovely folks
