My suggestion is to just ignore him and one of two things will happen: he'll get bored when he doesn't get attention and disappear or he'll escalate and make a mistake that can get him banned. Win-win.

You can report individual members, you know. On the bottom-right of each member page is a "Report This Member" button. Hell, one of his latest visitors was BioWareMod06, so he IS getting attention from on high. I'd do it myself (and will if you all want to have a group effort), but I haven't the experience with this user that you guys do.

But yes, he joined the BSN February 24 and only has 42 posts, mostly in LGBT (or anti) threads, including the heterosexual one he made that was locked.

Yeah, I was curious and was reading some of the crap he posted in the "Gay Badass" thread. Wow.

Also it means that there's less posts about them in a thread which shouldn't be about them.

Aaand done. And I got to learn how reporting works.

The only reason I haven't reported him is because, while he's clearly trolling, he's actually done a good job of skating the line without actually saying anything against board rules (evidence that he's a veteran poster's ghostie?). Backward clueless things that some people actually DO think. So I try not to report people until they ACTUALLY break board rules, not just offend people.

But his latest posts are getting closer and closer to crossing the line (that last bit about how boys need fathers or else they'll end up effeminate?). I think if we just ignore him a bit, he'll start saying some REALLY offensive stuff to try to get a rise out of us and then it's an easy sell to the mods.

Am I being to Machiavellian?

^ You are being more patient than he deserves, but you do make a fair point. At the same time though, these are private boards and Bioware can ban people they deem offensive in accordance with their own morality policies as a company.

I went ahead and did it anyway, that boy and dad comment was too far for me. The Ryder thread didn't have anything different in it and it was closed anyway (and pretty early too, only 9 pages), so there's hope.

I'm just baffled by trolls in general.

I have never been that bored in my entire life, and I spent my childhood jumping on hay bales and running from cows. :/

I am so thankful that we didn't have the Internet when I was a kid/early teenager. I can only imagine what an annoying little ****** I would have been. Instead, I spent my youth outdoors, usually riding my bike around the 'slushie', an area of cleared away fields outside of my town where the coal company's would dump huge (15'+) piles of coal dirt. I probably have black lung, but at least I wasn't trolling online!

There is a guy in the DAI forums who always talks about his various characters (by name) in the third person, but as if he's talking about himself as the character. It's weird and annoying, and also tends to sound as if his canon is THE canon, regardless of what anyone else did with their own game.

I put this in the happy thread even though its a vent too so I'm sorry for the double post.

Got my doctor's appointment it'll be on Tuesday and right after I make it I check the area that's hurting and all the bruising is gone. Without any visible signs of something there I know I'll get the same answer I always do. Maybe its to be on the safe side and avoid any lawsuits but if they would just feel the area they wouldn't miss that darn lump and I might be able to get advice that makes it go away for good. Pretty tired of having to deal with it going away and coming back whenever considering the pain is far from mild.

Whew glad I got that out.

And he's the reason this place is now unviewable by people not in the group. Which is probably a good thing altogether, conversations like this one are safe from prying eyes.

So was that a preemptive strike, or did he make comments about this group?

It was about this group. He saw my OP here and wanted to address the concerns I mentioned.

The thing with Kefka/Guneviere is that he seems very friendly on the surface, a little goofy. He hems and haws, "Oh, gee well um that kind of sort of seems maybe a bit like it might qualify as something like what you guys are looking for, even if it isn't exactly verbatim per se."

He uses confusing, contradictory language, and asks questions as though he's trying to figure something out. So people often feel like they're helping him understand something. It isn't until you've followed him all the way down the rabbit trail that he turns around and comes at you with a fierce effort to "prove," you objectively wrong, and it turns out that he's completely incapable/unwilling to distinguish his opinion from irrefutable fact. Which is a common enough problem around here, but Kefka takes it to new levels.

Anyway, just be wary. He has a habit of framing his entrance into these discussions in a friendly way, and then there's a sense of whiplash when it turns ugly.

Awwww I just have to share this. Some background... I live in Seattle, Washington, which is pretty progressive and gay friendly. There is a local free weekly newspaper, The Stranger (the home of Dan Savage and the advice column Savage Love, if you're familiar with him). Their online presence sometimes has a segment called I, Anonymous where they publish a praise or complaint from some anonymous person.

This one is so unexpected and adorable that I just had to share. It's a nice respite from the toxic BSN people.

To the dad and son at Bakery Nouveau: Doctoring up my coffee, I was physically caught up in your conversation. Overeager dad encouraging his teenage son, slapping him on the back, and giving a dad pep talk we have all heard: "You've GOT to go talk to people and just say hi. You can do this! Guys do it to girls all the time, you just have to put yourself out there or miss the chance." Kid, I feel your pain and hate pressure to talk to people. But then your dad nudged you and blurted, "Now's your chance, go!" and I turned around to watch it unfold. You walked up to the sexy beardy cashier and started flirting. I walked by, awestruck. I looked back to see dad beaming and son doing his best to look calm and cool. I love living in this Seattle bubble where a dad talks his son into hitting on another guy. Hats off to you, dad, and way to put yourself out there, young guy. THIS is how things should be.

This made my NIGHT!  Thank you for sharing it!  I hope to be that dad someday, regardless of what my child(ren) want to do; just loving them unconditionally and being an adorable supportive badass!

Hmm thought I could only post in DAI and in MEA but now it seems to be all over the place. I can't post in DAI Combat section and there was a thread in the DAO section I could post in. This is odd and confusing.
