Hey, i wanted to play the Original NWN campaign with a friend from Prologue till chapter 4 and then Hordes.

If i make a server via new internet/lan Game he can't join via direct connection message: Server doesnt respond: Time-Out.

If i make a dedidcated Server, i can see my server under Lan Game but (ofc) he can't see it. If he tries it via direct join the same problem as mentioned occurs.

I'm aware that GameSpy stopped the support for NWN, but i guess there is sure a way to play together, but i just can't get how?

My external IP Adress is:

93.83.248.***

i use the default port from NWN 5121

Another problem i suppose is that in the dedicated server it shows my internal ip adress: 192.162.0.117

Iam behind a Nat Router but i have no way of changing this, do i need to open and forward the port 5121

or

any solutions?

(Sorry for my terribad english and the roman)

PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP :D

you need to port forward many ports not just 5121, there is a list somewhere but you should be better with virtual vpn workaround, hamachi and similar - that will make you two on same virtual lan and your frind should be able to see your server/or lan game (works the same basically) in LAN games, even if not dirrect connect on the virtual ip should work

Do you know where the list is or what ports? I never used hamachi and iam pretty noobish at things like this, but if i use it does he need hamachi too?

Edit: Thx for t the quick reply

hamachi or similar program is much easier option than messing with router (or calling your provider to open those ports) trust me

anyway google is your friend

"nwn server port forward"

"hamachi"

"hamachi alternatives"

"vpn"

Is your firewall set to allow nwserver through, when you use that method?  Also, if your friend hosts, can you join a MP game they start?  Again, it might be firewall related, not allowing the incoming connections, if it turns out you can connect to them, but not them to you.

you both run hamachi, you both register, you create a virtual network called nwn or something, your friend joins this virtual network on hamachi

you start LAN Game, your friend joins on the hamachi ip (if he wont see you in the LAN game menu)

THX, so he now can see my dedicated server in NWN Lan Game, and he can join he already was on my server(we dont have the same key).

I can join my own server, doesnt matter if he is on the server or not, but the "Play Button" is grey and i can't press even Play if i start a new character or take an old one? Any solution why its grey?

well when its grey its probably because server didnt started or the module is corrupted, i dont think there is any other reason for this

the reason should be visible somewhere in the character selection screen in some tab

if you started game with Create LAN Game in menu, maybe try to use nwserver.exe?

Thx for the help, that was indeed the problem, now a new problem...if he tries joining the server he always gets the message: Server not responding, timeout.

We tried 2 different IP's

One is 25.114.240.218:5121

the second is 192.168.0.117:5121

INGAMe it tells me this IP: 192.168.0.117:5121

The One in nwserver.exe: says 25.114.240.218:5121

He tried both IP in Lan and Internet..but always the same response. Server not responding, timeout.

The Hamachi IP is the 25.114.240.218 so we did try that one

We have both green icons in hamachi, and it doenst matter if i open an server via New Lan Game or via Dedicated Server in both cases he can't join - same problem as mentioned - Server not responding - timeout. Seems like more and more it will not happen, thx for your patience and help.

If you both have green icons and the nwserver tells you this ip 25.114.240.218:5121 it should be possible to join on this ip provided the joining player is in same hamachi virtual network.

The only reason why it could be blocked is firewall. Try to disable it completely.

There is a picture of the NWServer.  I know it is in german but it is basically the same.

Hamachi we have both green symbols

We have both all Firwalls deactived, from Windows and from the Avira Programm

you might try gameranger instead of Hamachi. I've never used either but I see NWN games on gameranger quite often.

Thanks for the help though shadow, i think its because of NAT-Router with WLAN Connection but i have no idea how to fix this

I tried Gameranger, we were both in the same lobby but it just opens the game and i end up in the main menu i already asked myself why this happens, but since Gameranger has no forum, there is no answer to this

If you have only one router then you need to:

1 - make sure the computer hosting the game has an static internal IP address (usually something like 192.168.0.XXX)

- - - try portforward.com for a useful and free trial utility to accomplish this.

2 - in your router settings/admin forward the following ports UDP protocols: 5120-5300, 6500, 6667, 27900 and 28900

- - - (if you want your server to be visible in the various public listings also forward ports 29900 and 13139)

If you download the free trial utility from PortForward.com you can also use it to verify the necessary ports are open. A handy tool. I recommend it.

Now, assuming all is well when YOU Direct Connect to your server you will probably use the internal IP address to access the game server because you are inside your own network. This applies to any other computer inside your network as well.

Your friends, however, will need to Direct Connect to your external (WAN) IP address because they are outside your network. Your external WAN IP can be found both on the PF utility or by simply going to whatismyip.com. This is almost always going to be a dynamic IP address, which means it will change very so often without notice. Unless you are hosting a 24/7 PW server I do not advise wasting time, energy and $$$ to procure a static public domain. Instead, whenever you want to boot up a game just retrieve your IP using your preferred method and send it to your friends.

This is exactly how I host my private games.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now, if you are double routered, that is, your modem also functions as a router (used or not) AND you have an additional router installed between your modem and the rest of the network or the host computer, you will need to port forward the same ports from the modem to the second router, and then from the second router to the host. This means both the host computer and the second router will need static internal IP addresses.

You will still log in using the internal IP of the server, and your friends will still use the WAN IP of your network.

- A possible workaround to this is if you are NOT using the modem's built-in router for your internal networking, you may be able to "bridge" the router functions of that unit. IE: essentially you just turn that router off. This is exactly what I used to do when I had a Comcast modem/router unit. I was using my personal Netgear router to handle the private home network, so all I had to do was place the Comcast router in "bridge mode" and port forward from the Netgear to the host computer. Easy. *wink* Alternatively, you could simply remove the second router, if feasible.

Maybe this helps. I hope so.

~

Will this work with trying to connect to PWs?
