I went for the reaver spec in complete innocence without any idea how obnoxious it is and I'm tearing through EVERYTHING on Hard difficulty. This includes High Dragons. The poor things live for about 10-30 seconds on average.
If it's a group of enemies I have Solas pull them together, then I spam 5 (for dragon rage) and wipe them out in a couple of seconds. I have heal on kill and generate guard in my sword, I do believe I just made my game trivial.
Any thoughts on this? Is it the most OP spec in dragon age?
The reaver must be the most OP thing ever

^This. Any well specced class/party will tear Nightmare difficulty enemies a new ***.

Well, unfortunately, DA:I didn't do a very good job with difficulty. There really isn't much challenge in the game after you get your character to level 10 or so even on the toughest diffilculty settings.
Their new approach to encounter design means most encounters are not meant to be able present themselves as a lethal event. Whether this is because of the new limited healing idea or because they simply want everyone to play in real time with no pausing, I can't say for sure.
Playing with the trials on does help a bit, but they could have used another level or two of difficulty settings.

I maxxed out the Reaver tree and put some ranks into 2 Handed + Grappling Chain because pulling and stunning anything to you from a kilometre is OP.
It wasn't really hard at all. +guard and heal on kill is obviously great for melee dps.

You stun bad guys a klick out? That's further out than I can nail 'em... I blame 5.45mm.
Still, you just specced well. I specced my Tempest rather decently, and she TORE through **** without a second thought.

Reavers are strong both in DAI and in DAO,but the elusiveness/dodge of the spirit warrior(which is not a spec available in DAI) was game breaking in DAO since the enemies were unable to even touch the PC..

I do think it's too strong. The only thing that gives me trouble are Pride demons because they are tanky enough to survive for more than a couple of seconds but hit hard and often enough that if I spam dragon rage mindlessly my PC will drop. But all that means is I need to not just charge them mindlessly.

Lol. So true. Knight Enchanters, Artificers and even Tempests and Necromancers are so much more potent than Reavers. I mean, being a Reaver on Nightmare with Trials on can get you killed easily.

Reavers are garbage in Origins. They got better in ][, especially when paired with Berserker. Inquisition's Reaver is the best it's ever been.

I prefer Tempest, but that doesn't mean I don't have experience playing Artificer and know how delightfully OP it is.

Rogues tend to be universally better at doing damage, with DW assassin's/tempests coming out on top imo.
But I'd put reaver directly beneath the rogues.

Sounds like you made really solid gear choices. Kudos.
Strangley off topic but seeing the DAO vs DAII vs DAI class comparisons brought up some old thoughts.....WHY NO BLOOD MAGE ARRRGGHHHHH.

I think the most OP thing in the game is the Knight Enchanter. Once you get the Barrier perk (where as you do damage you continually charge your barrier), you are basically unstoppable. I love this specialisation though as it feels good to be a mage who is also capable of tanking a bit!

This. KE was so OP they nerfed it, what, two or three times? And it's STILL one of the most durable specs. The only thing I ever had any trouble with on Nightmare was those Hakkonite Archers (they can one shot you through full Barrier AND Guard), at least until I started using Fade Cloak.

@Mocker22 This specialisation had likely been done away with in favour of the politically motivated narrative which pitted mages against Templars where mages are generally considered inherently bad as it is, because they're powerful. Make yourself a blood mage, and you couldn't be Inquisitor as the Chantry would never support you and the people would fear you as you would represent all that was wrong with magic in their minds. Just a guess, but that's my guess. Admittedly, I'm really disappointed with the political narrative of the last two games and the shift to Templar versus mage.

@BigI I must have been a really high level when I started this DLC last time (can't remember!) as I didn't have problems with most of the enemies in the DLC. You're right though, archers generally do massive damage and I remember this from the original game as well and the Arrow of Slaying perk. I was so happy to see the Knight Enchanter perk though, regardless of it's potentially OP nature, because generally you are sooo easy to wipe out as a mage and I just prefer mage combat. As a mage I generally see myself more as a support player able to disable or make life difficult for enemies in support of my melee and archer counterparts, rather than as the main damage dealer, so it was and is really nice to have this extensive barrier protection.

Knight-Enchanter is the only specialization I would have called a Gamebreaker. Assassin, Tempest, and Reaver can do high damage, but that just makes them glass cannons. Knight-Enchanter was an unholy mix of steady DPS and utility.
