I don't see how Shepard could ahve been involved in any of this. I mean, this entire plan is never mentioned once in ME3. I get that there would be a need for secrecy but Shep never even mentioned it to his/her closest allies/LI and never even hints at it when talking to Anderson? Sounds a bit far fetched for me. If there is something like a long running project (which it looks like there would have been, given the ship we see in the N7 day teaser), then I'd say none of the known mahor characters could have been involved.

I like the Ark Theory where we come back to a completely different MW because Shepard refused lol

And of course, considering how easily Shepard could have been indoctrinated by Reaper-exposure it also makes sense they never involved her into it...though however Bioware forgot all about that important plot-point called Indoctrination over the course of the trilogy, but nothing stops them to use it again to further justify why Shep got no connection to Andromeda ^^

I'd be fine with that explanation. Though ironically, if this is a council initiative and if it was planned for quite some time, Udina must have known about it right? Well, guess who actually did get indoctrinated? ![]()

I'm still going with them leaving somewhere near end of ME2 but before ME3.

Any race could be on the Ark. People keep thinking about it in terms of a massive, living population on board the ship, like a space station. That's an entertainment contrivance, not a logical plan. All it would take to have Quarians on the Ark without making canon a choice in regard to their fleet's survival is DNA/genetic materials stores. Same for Batarians, Rachni, whatever. All they need is the genetic materials necessary to "tank breed" these races and DNA from a large enough number of individuals from each race to ensure genetic diversity.

So the Ark is basically a collector ship, only carrying representatives of all species and not just humans, and obviously not making a reaper out of it all... one would hope. I think I'd rather have my entertainment contrivance.Any race could be on the Ark. People keep thinking about it in terms of a massive, living population on board the ship, like a space station. I say they leave before the events of ME3
I say this. Then they can still give us a real ME3 at a later date. This way EA can still cash in on all those who were disappointed by ME3.

I wouldn't complain if that were to happen. My personal preference is to redo the trilogy

Our continuing galactic civilization is still going to be spending a significant amount of time as goo. Is that really how you want Andromeda to begin?...Collectors turn people into goo. I'm talking turning goo into people.

Why not? You were goo in your parents' bodies until you were a baby. What's the difference?

I'm hoping for a backstory I find a little more relatable for most of the characters.

Like being a genetically engineered superhuman with hams for a butt?
Test-tube people would be the second wave, obviously. A crew, military force of some kind, team of scientists, team of explorers and leadership in one form or another would need to be in place first, and seeing as how we're exploring unknown worlds I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume we're new to the galaxy.

I'm not opposed test-tube people, as a rule. They just aren't exactly what I'm thinking of when I hope for another Quarian companion.

Like I said, that would be the second wave. If we're still scouting planets we're clearly not a full generation into our settlement of the galaxy. Unless MEA is more like 'Muppet Babies' in space any game with Milky Way companions born in Andromeda would have to be set decades later.

This. Relatable. I want the characters I play and interact with -- except shiny new aliens of course -- to remember where they came from, to understand what it means to be <insert race here> on an instinctual level. To have history and culture to draw on when I talk with them. When my asari squadmate shouts, "By the Goddess!" I want her to know why.I'm hoping for a backstory I find a little more relatable for most of the characters.

You could very well be right about how they've decided who gets on the boat and who doesn't. Maybe with the reclaiming (or not) of Rannoch, the quarian story arc is over, but the same could be said about the krogan and the cure/sabotage of the genophage. From what we've seen, it looks like they made it at least.
Which wouldn't make sense why would you bring cured Krogan and not tech heads experienced in living on ships for centuries.
This thread is giving me bad vibes.

I know i know StarGate isnt close to ME universe.
But i star thinking after watching Atlantis today, that ME Andromeda can work similar as that show works.
They can set the time line of Andromeda after ME 2 when Shepard spend time on Earth, he and Anders could have star a project thinking that they coundnt beat the Reapers, so they make this crazy plan together with some other top officers in the council. To make this Ark, and send it to other galaxy to allow Human kind and other species to survive.
U could think how about the technology, well this is after ME 2 so they could have access to Collector technology no meter if u destroy or no the base. And this will explain why Cerberus is involve to ( suppose from the leak), i mean after ME 3 Cerberus is wipe out by Shepard.
Is if they put it in this between limbo, u can still have cameos of what happen on ME 1 and 2, and avoid all the problems that ME 3 involve (endings)
If the multiplayer aspect of ME:A informs the story timeline it seems more likely that Cerberus troops would be as they are in ME3, if they are to be a similar enemy faction in the new MP. It's surprising that almost no one wants or mentions Liara's Galactic Record coming with the Ark(s). Linguistics programs, technology specs but most importantly it contains a record of the players decisions as Shepard. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

That would all be gone in one generation anyway if your argument is that it requires living experience to remember a culture.

No it wouldn't. As far as we are told, at the time of the trilogy there wasn't a quarian alive who was actually born on Rannoch, but they all wanted to reclaim their homeworld. That would all be gone in one generation anyway if your argument is that it requires living experience to remember a culture.
