I'd still like it to be sometime in the 2 yrs that Shep was dead. It clear up why no one seemed to do anything during that period.
I like that timeslot as well.

This. Relatable. I want the characters I play and interact with -- except shiny new aliens of course -- to remember where they came from, to understand what it means to be <insert race here> on an instinctual level. To have history and culture to draw on when I talk with them.
That's what my main character will be doing. She/he will remind them to not forget about Earth. To let them know that humanity is the best species in the universe. Tell them Earth is the best homeworld in the universe. To remind them the accomplishments humanity has achieved. I will tell them every time I go on a mission, I'm doing it for humanity. I will tell them we have the best music, food and are the best looking species.
When my asari squadmate shouts, "By the Goddess!" I want her to know why.
If the ship leaves after Thessia, she most likely will be shouting "By the Prothean". Later on she will shout "Embrace Javik". hahahaha
If MEA doesn't start with leaving the Milky Way 1,000+ years after a ME3 destroy ending the entire story is cowardly and leaves the ME universe with unresolved continuity ruining plot holes.
THE REAPERS MUST BE DEAD OR MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA IS A FARCE!
Be prepared to not buy the game then.
See, motivations like this are why we need a connection to our origins on this adventure. When the shiny new alien asks why Earth is the best homeworld, we can't be saying things like, "Well, uhh, I was grown in a tank and I've never actually been there. *ahem* But the VI who taught me how to be human said it was the best."That's what my main character will be doing. I'm sure I will have a squadmate like Ashley to kill the Krogan for me if it comes to that
I'd be fine with that explanation. Though ironically, if this is a council initiative and if it was planned for quite some time, Udina must have known about it right? Well, guess who actually did get indoctrinated?
Hm, and nothing stops them to use this to bring some kind of "old threat" with them from the old galaxy I guess ^^ ?

I say they leave before the events of ME3
I think that they will leave during the Reaper invasion. You have to remember that in ME 2 the Reapers were still considered a myth to the galaxy. If this theory is true then the Ark would contain thoasands of people. Why would people leave for Andromeda when there is no pressure for them to leave, as they don't believe in the Reaper threat?

What if its a privately funded project from very wealthy sponsors who want to travel to Andromeda for exploration purposes? Everyone on the ship all volunteered. All kinds of folks volunteer. Former military, scientists, engineers and many others. Would anyone know about the project? Possibly. There's also a possiblity that when the reapers invade the galaxy, those folks might forget about the ship and focus on dealing with the reapers.
What that does is avoid saying anything about the reapers except as a rumor. Anything that happens in ME3, will be unknown and won't have to be mentioned at all in Andromeda.
Yes everything is just my assumption, but I still say the ship leaves before the events of ME3. I won't know until the game is released.

Which means the Asari are still going to be shined in a holy light and their repercussion will never come to play.
Little things like that is why I'm hoping the ship left prior to the Earth battle.
If not, everything in ME3 is pretty much irrelevant. Some prefer it that way, I know.

They will only be shined in a holy light if BioWare wants them to be shined in a holy light. And since there isn't going to be a sequel to ME3, though I like to have one, those repercussions will never come to play even if the ship leaves before the fleets head to Earth.

Ah, I see. I thought Andromeda was connected to the prequels vaguely by the choices you've made and nothing more.
Well if that's the case, they're better off just going by ignoring the major conflicts that happened in ME3.
No it wouldn't. As far as we are told, at the time of the trilogy there wasn't a quarian alive who was actually born on Rannoch, but they all wanted to reclaim their homeworld.
You just countered your own argument. Not a single Quarian in the Fleet has any memories of Rannoch but they still continue their culture.

Why is it important that the colonists believe Earth is teh greatest? It's counter-intuitive. And who said anything about being raised by VIs? And why would a VI tell people Earth is the best?
It's important to themikefest that he is able to roleplay a character who believes Earth is the greatest, and if he's given the opportunity to tell the Andromedans that, then he will do so. In my response to Mike, I attempted to reflect my belief that in order for this to 'ring true', our character would need a connection to the Milky Way and to Earth, to at least have spent time there. It's my opinion that a tank-born human stating that, "Earth is the greatest," would ring false. It was me who mentioned the VIWhy is it important that the colonists believe Earth is teh greatest? A joke.
But again, no living Quarian had ever even seen Rannoch before the third act of ME3 and yet they all felt connected to Rannoch and wanted to continue their culture.
Just the thought that some shepard out there will eventually talk with starbrat again in ME:A's time line makes me cringe, I really hope they somehow cut the ties with the trilogy but I don't know how they will make it work... having the carry over things like Quarian/Geth/Genophage... I'd rather the game take place "In a Galaxy far far far far away", with nothing but the absolute vaguest references please.
Or something like the current theory, but **** blows up and they absolutely cannot return to where the trilogy takes place.
Assuming they include aspects from the books and comics; If I am not mistaken, at least one group of Quarians went off exploring "unknown regions". Wouldn't take much for a writer to tie them in if they wanted to.
If you google the actual time frame - nothing concrete comes up but it implies its not only far removed by distance but also time. If that's to be believed, then its sometime after ME3. When they left is irrelevant - they could have left after the events of ME3 for all we know and it would still make sense, especially if said "expedition" was already set to leave. It could also be a team set to find a new place to live for the displaced peoples of the Milky Way.
