Did you know that the Rogue Sabotage ability Hook & Tackle with the It Beats Walking upgrade ...

  1. Does 150% damage?
  2. Procs "on hit" masterworks?
  3. Is a fast way to farm Snoufleur in Emprise du Lion?

Here's a video that demonstrates all of the above. There is a Hidden Blades proc on the last of the 3 Snoufleur. My character is the only one who had that proc and no other rogues in the party.

Granted, an upgraded Chain Lightning or just one-shotting them with an OP bow is probably faster for herds of critters and doesn't require any assistance from other party members, but I was pleasantly surprised that Hook & Tackle worked at all for this purpose. It ... sure beats walking! Well, except for the going back and picking up the loot part.

Somebody still doing that!? I mean farming? After my first pt I decided never again and installed the mod, now every time I pick up metal or kill someone I get ft material. Farming!? Farming is horrible!

I've loved It Beats Walking since my first rogue. Other things it's useful for:

  1. Spammable mobility skill. This is effectively a dodge with no cooldown and no stamina cost. All you need is one other target, friendly or hostile, and you can rapidly get away from a troublesome attack.
  2. Soloing dragons. Against solo rogues, dragons hop away a lot, so it's good to have a gap closer. Gets you out of breath range and into stabby stabby range quickly, even if the dragon keeps retreating. Kicks are a lot easier to avoid than breath, so staying glued to the dragon really improves survivability. With good aim and timing, you can even use this ability to slide from a kicking leg to a non-kicking leg.
  3. Fennec surfing. Fennecs are abominations unto the face of Thedas, and must be eliminated. In the Western Approach, these loathsome vermin are numerous enough to use as a mode of fast travel.

The only thing I love more than It Beats Walking is Skirmisher. But it's a close matchup.

The jump off you do at the end interrupts channels as well, such as things like enemy archer full draws.

I was wondering about that ... seems to do a stagger animation on the target.

Yeah thatls kind of why I like using it  as well when the dragon is lining 8up to kick me I throw in a flank attack on it's other leg. That way it rarely gets me and I end up dealing yet more damage to the beast.

Hm, it's a tricky one for me, but I think on balance, I love elemental mines a tad more than hook & tackle. It's a close run thing, but well, I don't mind walking if there are explosions :D

Hook & tackle so awesome though, truly one of the greatest QoL fixes in this game.

Do I have to choose? My favorite Artificer tactic is H&T, drop mines, then Leaping Shot into Stealth to get away.

Even without the mines, alternating H&T and LS is always fun on an Artificer. You're basically a demented yo-yo that kills everything. Particularly if you can get the timing down and hit LS while in the middle of the flip at the end of H&T instead of waiting till you land.

For grins, I fought a promoted Hurlock Archer with just H&T. It's kind of like a weaker cousin of Combat Roll/Coming Through. Spamming all of those 150% free attacks with criticals and HB procs add up pretty quick. He couldn't shoot back since the H&T interrupts.
