Drack and Cora are the two confirmed companion names, right? If so, I'm kind of hoping that Cora is an Asari and that she and Drack are the starting squadmates. Beginning the game with two aliens on our team would make for something very new, and if the move to Andromeda is as multi-species and cooperative a venture as I think it is, it could also set up some interesting roleplaying opportunities. i.e. Exactly how cooperative with the other species does our protagonist feel like being?

I know there isn't much to go on in the first place, but what are your hopes for the start-of-game squadmates?

I definitely don't want another Jenkins or Nyreen.

Actually, the more I think about it.........I'd rather start the game completely solo and recruit on the way. I don't want to be a part of ANYTHING when I start out. I want to find my way.

And Cora is said to be human, so there goes your asari wish.

This would be different than the all-human squads we started with in the entire ME Trilogy. Would be curious to see how this would turn out - though I am wondering if this approach would lose newcomers to the series who aren't sure what these alien races are.

I know a lot of games try to attract new fans and therefore ease them into some of the more lore-specific aspects of the game like other alien races, so if we do start with only alien squad mates I hope we do not get dialogue explaining what they are when I'm sure the PC should already be aware.

As someone already into the series I would personally enjoy a new approach though.

I was thinking along the same route. ME:A is a chance to gain a fresh following. Figured they would start out simple, and ease in the "Mass Effect" portion of the game after they pique the interest, and maintain the attention of their newfound non-ME masses. Some quick right from the get go pew pew to keep their eye on the screen, and their boredom at bay, show a bunch of humans doing human things so they can relate; then ease in the ship, exploration, aliens, and the more complex themes and mechanics of Mass Effect down the line once they have the new people's attention.

I want all of the companions to be available to us in the first act. I don't want to be recruiting companions late in the game again.

This is how I feel as well, it really annoyed me that I normally had to wait until at least half way through the game to have all my squad members in Mass Effect 2 and 3, unless I had a specific reason I normally never used them for I had a rhythm with the characters I got near the beginning.  From what I remember (its been awhile) Tali is a prime example of what I didn't like for her recruitment was deep into Mass Effect 2 and about halfway through Mass Effect 3.

Yes this is exactly what I expect we will be seeing as this seems to be the trend given the original trilogy. This approach still works for me too.

The only way I could see 2 alien squad mates working in the intro is if you are playing a close-knit band of friends and they are like your side-kicks and there is not dialogue related to racial politics (since ostensibly the goal of all races right now should be solely to colonize and survive). Kind of like a Hans Solo and Chewy situation where it doesn't matter if you don't really know what a Wookie is. But I know racial politics is a huge part of ME so I'm sure we will be dealing with that at some point.

I don't see how starting with human squadmates over alien ones would more likely draw a fresh following. I don't see why it'd even matter.

Starting with immediate action might but that would make it like any other generic shooter. Unless that's Bioware's plan. To simplify it even more into something more familiar.
We've already seen how that hurt Fallout.

Drack should be OP.

He should have the attitude of Wreav.

The determination of Wrex.

The gleefully destructive nature of Grunt.

The temper of Kredak.

The wisdom of O'keer.

And be voiced by James Earl Jones.

I recalled that people mentioned a glimpse of a human face under a helmet, but they also said the lighting made it difficult to be certain of skin color, and that they couldn't determine whether the character has hair or head tentacles scalp crests.

Human is admittedly the more likely option, though, with a name like Cora.

A good point. That sense of familiarity with companion characters can be important.

But at the same time, Nihlus was one of the first characters we see in ME1, and that went over fine because he was there alongside humans. They could do something similar. We could start the game by meeting human characters first and then any aliens on our team second.

**** Nyreen til the end of time. I hated that wench. She gave turians a bad name and is the face of what was so bad about the Omega dlc. Give me more edgy characters who can be leaders or badasses in their own right without being overly chummy. Though starting with aliens really puts the scope into perspective. I like it.

Make it kind of like Fallout. They're all around, and as long as you know where they are, you can have them at level 1. (Except for like 1 or 2, where you have to do a quick quest first to unlock them.)

If those two are New-Shepard's starting companions, I'm more interested in which one dies first. Starting companion always has to die, it's a BioWare tradition.

This reminds of Legion, Killroy. I had already completed about 90% of the game by the time I recruited him. I would think to myself, what is the point? Arg it annoyed me. Regardless, I do agree with you. I do not want to recruit companions late in the game either.
