"Need" is probably a strong word.

I'm not saying they should release a pre-alpha gameplay, but they could at least drop some news or a new trailer to keep us interested in the game. I don't want big spoilers but I think they could reveal basic information about the protagonist, the story etc. MEA's marketing is non-existent and it worries me...

Why do you need to be interested now? Wait until they do release more information and be interested then.

That's not something I'd thought about actually, I suppose negative reactions in the past could be keeping them from releasing too much information?

Possible, possible... but any negative reaction  (imo) is based on what marketing said about the game vs what was delivered. So, it's a problem of their own making.

Wait for E3.

Rumor has it EA may skip out on E3 2016 so that may no longer be an option

Check out the twitter thread....they're holding "EA Play" instead and doing a conference the Sunday of E3, just not at the same venue.

They're doing their own thing, like Obliviousmiss above said. I could easily see Mass Effect being 'the thing' at that event, like how Star Wars Battlefront was at last year's E3.

They are not skipping out on E3, they are holding EA Play instead. There will be a press event, and probably alot more showing of games. Which EA needs, and Andromeda is probably going to be the main focus there with Battlefield and Titanfall 2.

Also they recently released information that the game will launch within the next 14 months. We know when we will get the information, so lets wait patiently. I do think they announced the game abit to early though. N7 day 2015 would have been better, but EA wanted the buzz from E3 last year.

It's still the same thing; if they don't hold a conference at E3, whatever else they're doing will take place around the same time as E3, like Bethesda last year. Not much difference.

I am kinda hoping they are going to do what Bethesda did with Fallout 4, because no one can complain about what wasn't in Fallout 4 because no one knows what was or wasn't in Fallout 4 during development. That was the biggest mistake BioWare made with Inquisition. They showed us something, and they they killed any and all remnants of it in the final product. Big mistake. It would be wise not to make the same mistake.

Actually, if the plot is anything like ME3, I would prefer to know in advance so I can avoid the game.

Then why not just wait for reviews, or players' opinions? You don't have to spoil yourself or the entire plot just to find out if it's anything like ME3. But I guess buying day one or pre-ordering is a necessity for a few people here

Why can't you ignore promotional materials instead of advocating for no promotion at all?

Because then the game gains a greater risk of becoming leaked as with ME3. The entire plot was leaked and leaks were plastered everywhere. With over excitement of a fan base, comes trolls and people willing to upset that fan base in any way possible. Same thing happened to Fallout 4 also, the ending was being posted everywhere 2 days before release. So yeah, I'd rather have nothing and let EAware focus on developing the game. Plus I'm not against promotional materials, EAware needs those to get the word out. I'm against them showcasing major plot devices as they did with Inquisition and ME3

I fully intend to wait until I see reactions from multiple sources before I decide if I should buy ME:A.

Bioware have already used what credit they had with me due to the "good ol' days", so no leaps of faith like pre-ordering for me.

Its actually funny to me, as I decided yesterday to visit teh forums again and try to catch up on the news about MEA and the supposed plot, etc - only to find out did not miss anything at all so far ...

What worries me a bit is: Maybe after the slightly lukewarm reception of the DAI-Gameplay (you know, exploring huge maps with "quests" in it that are started only by letters etc) they might be worried? Like if their whole "xplore this new galaxy, more new MAKO etc plays a bit too much like DAI IN SPACE?

That could be a reason why we are shown not that much by now...they maybe still need a viable marketing strategy to sell this to us as soemthing everyone wanted (though the only good Mako from Bioware is in The Old Republic I'd say ^^)

The plot of ME3 leaked because BioWare was stupid enough to put the plot outline in the demo files.

So yeah, I'd rather have nothing and let EAware focus on developing the game.

The dev team isn't doing the advertising. EA has an advertising department for that.

And you don't think they'll do that again, or people will find other ways to spoil the game? With hype comes trolls.

Like I said Promotional materials aren't the problem, they need those, I'm against major plot devices being showcased; and that's BW doing that part when they attend pax and other conventions. They did it with both ME3 and Inquisition, and I bet they'll do the same with Andromeda.

As a fan of Dragon Age I also think it's fairly strange that by this time in its release cycle we'd seen a lot more of Inquisition than we have Andromeda. I'm glad they're taking their time, I'm super happy they seem to be being extra-thorough with dev time and I hope they make the best possible Mass Effect experience they can, but show us a little bit of it please!

Your error is assuming that TIME is a good measure of a release cycle. It's one measure, but it's not a GOOD measure. The real measure is how close the project is to an actual production (customer) release.

You think very little of the developers. If they're so stupid why even worry about what gets spoiled? It would all be stupid anyhow.

And did I say they were stupid ? No, I don't think I did. I worry about what gets spoiled because firstly, I will inevitably play the game at some point. secondly, I think no gamer should have to be unintentionally spoiled, even if the ones who are spoiling the game are the ones who developed it. It's just not fair for anyone.

You think the devs are incapable of not leaking their script or spoiling major plot points. They would have to be stupid.

You know, in fairness, Bioware spoiled a pretty major part of ME2 for me.  I remember flipping through the art book included with the game and seeing the concept designs for the Human Reaper, along with some blurbs about its role in the game.

There I was, only ten hours into the game and I already knew the final boss.  Hopefully there's nothing approaching that kind of oversight this time.

This lack of information about ME:A has been encouraging.

Feedback is attenuated by this strategy. This seems to have had a positive detrimental effect on the effectiveness of vocal groups that have formed in the past who try to influence development. From the look of things with this limited information release it seems that the developers know what they want to do and the direction they want to go. Hope it is so and that it works.

No they don't have to be. As you said they put the plot outline in the demo files, why can't it happen again? And if it does happen, it doesn't make them stupid. It could just mean it's unavoidable. If you think the devs are stupid, as you said:

Well that's your opinion. Don't try to make it mine.

Because of the age we live in people will just dump all that information in any thread they want even if it is unrelated, so it would be easy to avoid the official comments from EA and BioWare, but the trolls that forums like this attract is another story all together.

Nice tapdancing, but making the same boneheaded mistake over and over would make them stupid. There's nothing "unavoidable" about putting the script in the demo files.

I guess it is hard to break free of the people who chain you to a computer desk and make you read these forums. Oh wait...

That's your fault, not Bioware's. You were reading the game's official art book. Of course it was going to have stuff that's in the end of the game in the book. That doesn't mean they should not release art books anymore, just that if you don't want spoilers don't read the book until you finish the game.
