There's at least one "Miranda angle" shot of Jacobs butt in the game. You know Jacob right? The handsome, well built Cerberus agent who wears what is essentially a catsuit for men? You even get to spy on him working out topless.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. More stuff like Jacob and his bulge, yes!

I would like a reasonably attractive girl to sexually harass me at work. It'll probably never happen. But a man can dream...

Really you don't. It's unwanted. It's usually your supervisor or someone even higher up and your performance review can depend on it.

What you're describing would be consensual, and I have no problem with that. I've been in this situation, too. He was in the "I'd like to, but I'm not sure...." and it was 5:00 pm and I was "Well, let's get a drink and talk about it, no strings attached."   ;) Negotiation up front.

I love Mass Effect, I really do, but I really get annoyed at some of the smaller details seen.

1) The camera constantly zooms in on Miranda's butt

2) Samara/Jack/Benezia wear incredibly revealing clothing for no real reason

3) There are tons of strip clubs throughout each game

4) In ME3, almost every woman/asari is wearing a dress

5) Female krogans are covered head to toe

6) A consort is seen as a position of high honor

7) Apparently having sex with Jack/Miranda solves their personal issues

It all comes off as rather misogynist, Mass Effect 2 in particular. It's like BioWare subscribes to the idea that beauty and sex empower women, and that there is nothing wrong with sex work.

1.The camera also zooms on men butts, guess what...because we are organics and we all have lower body parts.

2.Because they are not nuns.If a woman has incredible body, why should she hide?

3.As long as there's no touching...gotta make a living.

4.Aria T'loak,Samara and Liara isn't.

5.So now it's about covering too much for you,I can never understand what you think misogynist is.

6.It's not a low honor.

7.I never had sex with them,so can't answer this one. And they've never force me to have sex with them either.

Women showing their bodies (which are beautiful if your mind is not stripping them) is nothing wrong, and hardly "misogynist" about that. This is not a nun school, misogynist means if BioWare is mocking women or making all women characters in the game evil & dumb while all men characters angelic & smart, saying we're better than you, which they're NOT...so,don't know where this idea comes from in you. I think you're starting a trouble you don't have to swallow...some new players who just about to play ME series may think BioWare is sexism after seeing an untrue threat like this, and that's very wrong. As a matter of fact,BioWare were always praising strong, smart, powerful & sexy women. Like Liara,Aria,Samara,Tali,Ashley...many others along with the female Commander Shepard of course, who is a woman and still able to save the galaxy with nothing less than the male Commander. Last but not least,BioWare itself is not an all-men-team,so started a threat/rumor like this is reminding me of that movie "Atonement" right now.

You're right. As usual.

I was picturing something like Charlie Day and Jennifer Aniston in Horrible Bosses. Seems like fun because in my case it would be welcomed. She was sooo aggressive...mmm...

I've gotten drinks with some of my female coworkers. But they're all either unattractive or taken. Very cool to hang out with though.

"Having been sexually harassed at work, I'm a little sensitive. The latter felt creepy to me when I first had Shepard approach Jacob."

Well, I´m really sorry for you. I hope you do get treatment so you will not get triggered whenever you see a similar situation in works of fiction.

But you know what?

I had guns pointed at me by robbers. In more than one occasion. As one can imagine, it is a tense situation. And yet, by no means I´m criticizing games that use guns. I don´t allow my personal dramas and inner demons to dictate how others should act or what people could enjoy.

Despite of what happened to me, I can see the use of guns as harmless in videogames.

I hope one day you can surpass your experiences and be able to enjoy healthy fiction too.

This race didn't build a civilization and take over a third of the galaxy by stripping and roaming in merc bands on Thessia. Someone had to build the skyscrapers and the space ships. My guess is they have their share of Rosie Riveters who wear wife beaters. But that wouldn't fit into the "sexy blue space babes" trope, so they were never mentioned and never shown.

Honestly, I don't think the series set out to be sexist, but sexism is deeply ingrained in people that it creeps in. BioWare has a female protagonist, but has yet to give the female protagonist her own animations - resources they claim. Bunk I say. They did make the near anorexic femShep conscious of her tummy when Anderson said "soft around the middle" where Sheploo has a totally different animation. Yet femShep sits like a man, walks like a man, and drinks like... well let's say that animation was hilarious and leave it. Jack's character was the furthest thing from sexism in the series in ME2. I loved her character. She pushed people's buttons. My guess is that religious conservatives pressured EA and EA told BioWare to tone it down for ME3. Miranda's ass and catsuit was okay with them though. And Kelly... feed your fish through sexual harassment. Jacob... sex through sexual harassment... no wonder he left and went to Bryn.

My guess is that they need to have a woman write the "how to pick up men and women" part for the female protagonist.

So despite the fact the Asari are portrayed in all 3 games as competent, intelligent and ass kickers. Simply because they aren't shown as a construction worker they are fully and purely in the sexy space babe trope?  Aria, Samara, Liara and Mornith, Unnamed Asari PSD soilder, Beniza, Aethyta just to name a few would like a word with you.

You seem to focus only on the fact you can see cleavage and completely ignore the fact they are always portrayed as intelligent, competent beings. Not just breasts stuffed into a tight outfit for people to stare at who serve no purpose or display not greater point in the game then just to be stared at.

So developers taking a short cut by only using 1 animation rather then creating two animations is now sexist? Lazy I agree with. Claiming it is sexist seems like a stretch. Tummy complaint fits into this same category of really reaching for that sexist claim. Because clearly no matter how much of an equally ass kicking solider both Male and Female Sheps are set up as. The very second they make a female character mention anything about their body that the Male version doesn't it is instantly sexist.

Also pretty clear you don't seem to understand the concept of flirting with Kelly and Jacob examples.

1) The camera does a lot of sexy angles on many characters. Male and female. Big deal.

Miranda doesn't run from the idea of using her looks to get what she wants. She wisely uses every asset available to her and i'm quite simply tired of people putting her down for it.

2) They can wear whatever they want. Who are you to decide what a woman should wear?

3) There are NO strip clubs in any Mass Effect game. Much to my dismay.

4) So? Why is this a problem for you?

5) So? Why is this a problem for you?

6) Why wouldn't it be?

7) The potential intimacy between these characters is completely separate from their personal quests.

Beauty and sex does empower women and there is nothing wrong with sex work.

And as usual the middle ground goes over most people's heads in this polarized society in which we live where there are only two positions - one on either extreme of the spectrum.

No people get the middle ground. The issue seems to be what is considered middle ground differs from PoV to PoV.  What one person might consider the middle would be an extreme end to another.

"This race didn't build a civilization and take over a third of the galaxy by stripping and roaming in merc bands on Thessia."

I could say the same for American Society (USA), and yet, it´s a fact that their education is going downhill in the last decades.

So in this comparison you are actually agreeing that asari being strippers and mercenaries is an indication that their society is going downhill. Not that I understand how being strippers and mercenaries equates to a poor education system.

Btw, female protagonists are not something designed solely for the purpose of attracting female players. Lots of men enjoy heroines and being able to control one.

Personally, I think it´s stupid to offer content for females and homosexuals. The content is for everyone. Everyone can be able to enjoy it. If they require that the protagonist be a female then they are the ones being sexists.

I hope you're saying that content should be created to appeal to everyone, and not that content should not be made for women and queer people. But regardless, not everyone likes the same thing, and it's not a bad thing to offer content that appeals to more than one type of player. It's the "I like it so everyone else should too" argument.

If a female gamer refuses to play a game that only offers a man as a protagonist I think she´s just being stupid. I never refrained from playing phantasy star, tomb raider and so many other games that did not offer a male option. Same thing goes for homosexuals demanding gay romance or an equal number of romances for them, or that all possible romance characters be bisexual. This goes in the exact opposite direction of true diversity.  Some will even dare to say that unless homosexuality is portrayed or allowed to be experienced by the protagonist the creators are bigoted.

These people need to realize that they are not the characters. They simply have a certain amount of control over them. They are not a bishop, nor a queen, nor a king or knight when they play chess. The people who demand these kinds of things are overly-sensitive, very much afraid and very unsure of themselves.

I don't think you understand the meaning of diversity. As a male player, I have hundreds of games to choose from if I want to play as my gender. Women do not have nearly that option. Plus people of color have a small amount, as well. Why is it bad if a player wants to play a game where they can insert themselves into the PC's shoes?

So if all games released starting today onward were to only have female and/or gay PCs, you would have no issue in playing them? You wouldn't be upset that you can't play a straight guy anymore? After all, you're not the PC, you're just playing the game.

By the way, are you aware that fat distribution in females or males differs? As well as the metabolic rate in which it´s possible to burn it? Not to mention the way in which body image affects both groups? Until very recently eating disorders motivated by body image were almost exclusively a female problem. It was only after the sexual revolution and the gender-confusion (or just fusion) that a significant number of males started to appear on medical journals about it.

Because the media has always hypersexualized women and focused on their appearance as a value judgement. Men have not had nearly as much of this, but now the media is starting to focus on men's appearance more.

"Bunk I say. They did make the near anorexic femShep conscious of her tummy when Anderson said "soft around the middle" where Sheploo has a totally different animation."

A batarian also joked that she could be a stripper. He never considered that male shepard could be a male stripper. It works both ways. Wreav and |Bakara can also evoke slight different responses from femshep by virtue of her being a female.

This is exactly the point. The female character gets called a stripper and the male character doesn't.

Beauty and sex does empower women and there is nothing wrong with sex work.

You do realize that the majority of women who are sex workers don't do so because it empowers them, but because they are forced into it or think that they have no other options? Considering that sex work is illegal in many countries but it still goes on, these are not glorified consorts who pick and choose what handsome bachelor they entertain, but women flying under the radar trying to survive on the streets

I'm a female player, and I try to ignore the male fanserivce, but I'll be honest, as a longtime gamer who has played many RPG's, (Japanese games dubbed in English), this is very common. It's in almost every teen/adult fantasy video game, especially the older Final Fantasy games.

more like willfully ignorant.

I wonder what would happen if Biower made a game where the male characters reused female animations? Grossly exaggerated hip swaying, crossing the legs when sitting down, high heel gait for casual wear etc. There'd certainly be no cries of the feminazis taking over or anything like that, nope.

Well, I for one would be laughing by ass off and I would complain. "Really? BioWare? You couldn't do a separate animation? Men don't walk like that and they don't sit like that unless they're a drag queen." And I am a feminist. I don't hate men.

Nah would be funny though because of all model animations the "boys" animations tend to be the more realistic actions compared to any "girl" animations I've seen in a lot of video games.

I admit some of the costumes, especially the female ones, make it hard for me to take Bioware's claims of being all progressive and egalitarian seriously  ;)
