To address the question of this thread: I don’t know whether I believe Mass Effect is sexist/mysogynistic or not. If it is, it’s such a mild, relatively innocent version of sexism, that it really doesn’t have a lot of affect on how much I like the series as a whole.  

 

I still love lots of things I consider to contain aspects of sexism, because if I didn’t I would stop loving enormous heaps of film and literary history. I don’t agree with the insistence that the media of the past should be revised to suit the social standards of the present. Because while doing so might make the past more palatable (at least to some), it also meddles with it’s message and anything that we might be able to learn from it. 

 

I tend to err in favor of de-stigmatizing sexuality over removing it, so I don’t take any serious issue with things like camera focus on a character’s physical assets. But I do believe it would be wise of the developers to reserve such moments of focus for after the player has indicated an interest through dialogue selection.
