What was the situation?  The quest?  This from the guy who drags the team into the sewer for his supposed "cure."

It's a pity you aren't given the option of exorcising Justice out of him to see if outcomes would be different.  There are some episodes in Awakening that indicate he was destined to do what he did one way or another.  Justice was a rather thoughtful character in Awakening.  Perhaps it was Anders' own dark side that was ultimately responsible...

In Dragon Age (all games), you frequently pick up companions of questionable character.  It shouldn't be a surprise you ultimately find one who can't be saved.

I like DAA Anders... So sad Justice (who I liked) had to mess him up...

But did Justice ruin Anders or did Anders ruin Justice?  From talking to Anders, it seems that "Justice" turned to "Vengeance"  as a result of Justice mixing with Anders memories and attitudes.

Rather interesting to compare this situation with that of Wynne in DAO.  Wynne's spirit kept her alive but otherwise didn't change Wynne.

Warning: DA:A spoilers

Justice ruined anders in my headcannon. His corruption started back in DA:A the moment he met Aura. When he realized that he unintentionally and unwillingly commited an act of injustice. He didn't want to leave the fade, but was forced across the veil by the baroness and then immediately saw his vessels grieving widow and realized he had deprived her of properly saying goodbye to her husband. After that his fate was ultimately corruption and the eventual twisting into vengeance.

That was a result of a „great” collaboration: Justice hardened Anders, and Anders' rage corrupted Justice.

As I recall, it's a piece of banter, not an actual conversation.

I actually don't remember if it was during a specific quest, or if it's just in general, if you're not doing something he considers "important."

I am unsure if the line is supposed to trigger while in a romance or not.

Well, you can't expect him to spend all his time with you, he has more important things to do.
Like justice and freedom and stuff.

Oh God I looooove Wynne,so sad she's been swept under the rug... Justice has always been hotheaded,in DAA if you take him to the final mission,he asked you to kill the Architect like "No question,no other way, just kill him,KILL HIM!". And Anders always hated the circle,so when these two mixed the f* up,a disaster was made. And Kirkwall was the lit fuse to this bomb called Anders/Justice....everybody makes mistakes,Anders' biggest mistake was to let Justice took over his body.

But there was no rage before Justice started telling Anders that he should take action against oppression, as we can see in their party banter from DAO:A.

I think it's more accurate to say she was swept under the tree. XP

Rage? Of course it was! Anders always exremelly hate templars, just do not want confrontation, before he met with Justice. The fact that someone does not want to fight, he may feel strong anger against the enemy. Indeed ... many times stronger suppressed anger! Anders just did not feel himself enough strength to fight. This power is what Justice had given him. And this power had release Anders' suppressed rage.

Maybe Wynne just didn't have any terrible feelings inside her to an extent it would corrupt

Didn't she have compassion or wisdom? How would those be corrupted?

The spirit of Enabling? Around junkies?

Faith. Spirit of Faith – if i remember.

Spirit of Compassion  from a lot of sadness at the sight surfeit.  May corrupted to Despair (Cole's biggest fear)

Spirit of Wisdom? I dont know. The omniscience can overconfident… maybe. Pride?

The Spirit of Faith can corrupted too, i think, but i dont know, what it becames. Or simply "dies"?

Well said, I really wish, there would have been a way to separate Anders and Justice again.

To be honest, I think it's hard to say, who corrupted who. Maybe they would have been ok, if they had stayed away from Kirkwall. The veil is thin there due to the violent deaths during the Tevinter days and that has an influence on mages, templars (I'm pretty sure, some of the templars became so sadistic because of it) and 'normal' people (the sheer amount of serial killers is proof of that - and the rather murderous gangs). I guess it had to take a lot of willpower to stay sane and the merging of Anders and Justice must have cost them dearly.

I don't want excuse their actions, but I think, that KIrkwall and it's torn veil (plus Cory slumbering beyond like Cthulhu,  has a lot to do with what happened there. If you read the Enigma of Kirkwall pieces you understand, that violence is part of that city, since the Tevinter days. I don't think  that Meredith and Orsino would have lost it like they did in another city (and Meredith would have probably have had the sense ro stay away from the lyrium idol), maybe even the fight between the church and the Qunari would not have escalated like it did (and poor Seamus would still be alive...)

Sorry for being slightly off topic, but Kirkwall and it's dark secrets are a favorite topic of mine :)

As for the original statement: I only remember Anders saying that once, I guess, it was shortly after his outburst (when he nearly kills that mage girl) and he said that, whe n I took him on my next mission after his questionable beliefs quest. I thought, that he was still shaken and found it very in character. Other than that, I never heard him say that line (and I played his romance often )

I have to say I hated to do his quest on act3 just to realize he was using me all the time. And then, when I refused to help him with the chantry (I love the "please help me to do something very wrong and I won't even tell you what it is... for your own safety of course, not because I'm not trusting you"... lol), he told me I was a bad friend... pardon me, WHAT ? just take a mirror and look at your own face dear Anders.... I do love what my Hawke's answer, that friends can have disagreements and it's fine ...

And when I saw the end of act3 ... really, I've played with him because I've lost Bethany (on the circle) but he just made me so mad. I don't know if Justice did something to him or if he was like this from the start (or if both are just crazy ? never played the DAO dlc) but I was against Anders during all act 3 ... He did the worse thing he could have done. I won't miss him.
