Wonder why Vivienne joined the Inquisition

Fiona at least cares about her fellow mages, Viv does not. Her only concern is that she no longer has power because her fellows are no longer enslaved. She advocates the Circle, even though she is a kept pet that didn't live there (a mage Quis can point this out). Viv is a quisling that gleefully collaborates for her own self-interest. Cole even says that she hates being a mage, and she seems to hold her fellows in low regard.

When Fiona attacks the Inquisition as part of the evil Venatori cult she should have at least had some lines explaining she had to join or more of the rebels that hadn't been killed yet would be killed.

Fiona comes across as bad as Orsino. The way she was portrayed in DAI she might have well have brought some mages with her to kill and become an Orsino harvester monster.

It's unfortunate that the game wasn't able to address the Tranquil murder shack. Lack of conversation made it look like Fiona and the Inquisition didn't care at all about the murder of the Tranquils. I assume that wasn't Bioware intent just lack of time to adequately discuss all relevant events in a big big game.

I like to believe Fiona cared about the other mages but DAI game events make her into another bad Orsino.

As much as I like Vivienne, I do have to wonder... where exactly are these resources and personnel she claims to command? None of that actually seems to manifest in any capacity.

That is not exclusive to her, it's a result of bad game and narrative design rather than her specific situation.

She gives war table missions that give influence just like Iron Bull does with the Qun and the Chargers, Sera's Red Jenny and Dorian's Tevinter contacts. We don't actually ever see any of these "resources" make up a difference in gameplay or cut scenes.

I dunno, with those three I can see the "contacts" and "insider info" being put to work at the War Table, even if it is just reduced to walls of text. The "Truth or Dare" quest chain, on the other hand, is a product of Vivienne's connections with the nobility of Orlais. The supposed group of loyalist mages never comes into play, not in text, not at the War Table, not in comments... it practically doesn't exist.

This is less of Vivienne boasting and more of Bioware dropping the ball with her character and plot lines. There SHOULD have been instances where she makes a difference, such as the winter palace, you'd have thought Celene would acknowledge the inquistion more if her trusted court mage has allied with them.

She might join for influence but it works both ways. She's a useful ally to have,

Honestly, if I were pressed to pick just one moment that was the most disappointing for me in the game, I'd say that the Winter Palace with Vivienne has to be it.  I kept checking back in with her over and over because I couldn't believe that they wouldn't include some examples of her influence in this scene yet.........nothing.  My biggest disappointment and I certainly don't hold it against her.  I hold the writers responsible for it.

On top of that, Vivienne would never allow herself to be seen in public dressed like the nutcracker.

I also hold the writers responsible for the fact that it was never showed that Vivienne brought with her the loyalist faction. It's clear she has followers according to the writting, as much as Iron Bull brings with him the Charge, and we get help with the friends of Sera. Why would she lie ?  It's so obvious that there is an issue with the narrative game, that I can't believe some would prefer thinking Vivienne, the character lied to their face. And I'm like : .

So basically, yes, she was in a way useless in the winter palace. But she was, simply because Bioware didn't do things very well with her compared to the big potential she had. That's too bad because it weakened the character and the overall writting where she clearly was important. The plot in the winter Palace would have been so much better if Vivienne would have played a bigger role.

@ vbibbi : I wish I could like your post plenty of times. Every single time I have done the winter place and saw Vivienne in that outfit, I made a disgusted noise, thinking that Vivienne would never allow herself to be dressed like that, especially at a noble party in Orlais where she could be seen by everyone important... This is just another proof that it wasn't really well done.

I still can't believe they gave Sera a unique side quest at the Winter Palace, and not Vivienne. (Not that I mind Sera having an extra side quest, but if they only had the resources for one ...)

She is privileged, blind to that fact and she's an opportunist - whether hard believer or not. She's actually all 'true', like it or not. She's one of the rare characters that actually resemble real life people, a Dunning-Kruger effect person that just can't help it - simple as that.

Lack of importance in the winter palace and lack of loyalists mages definitely did no favors for Viv character wise. Its like they didn't follow through in moments that shouldve been key character moments. The fact Viv connections to Orlais especially Celene it was expected that the winter palace quest is a automatic bring Viv but it was a disappoint on her end. Even her lack of interaction with Morrigan in the game was another miss. Instead of resources put into scenes going to her moving furniture it shouldve been towards two main plot points we would expect from Viv, Civil War and Mage-Templar War. Not that there is anything wrong with companions showing they are mad scene there is no point in those scenes if the character isn't hooking you in throughout the game. She even becomes grand enchanter off screen if not divine, that could have been explored more as to why she is more suited then fioana to be the grand enchanter so that way when it happens interest in that would have already been discussed

Power. Influence. Vivienne likes that sort of thing.

Just saying, but if Vivienne truly were playing the game and trying to gain power, she would make sure to not let you know, otherwise she'd be pretty bad at playing the game.

And I think it's pretty obvious she's damn good at playing the game.
