On thing that irritated me about the game was the fact that kills from the Mako earn you fewer experience points than fighting on foot.  This is completely opposite from real life.  You don't exit your combat vehicle in real life.  You want every bit of protection and firepower that you can get.  In fact smart fighting should actually get you a bonus for not putting yourself and your troops in harms way.

 

In any event I modified the appropriate .ini file so that there is no experience loss in my Mako.

But this isn't real life, this is a video game. The Mako makes kills easier and so you get less experience points for using it. Taking down an enemy on foot is more difficult and so you get more points for it.

I understand that and I think what you say was behind the reasoning.  I just remember when I was at Armor Officer Basic one of our student officers actually gave an order to his tank crew to dismount the M60A1 MBT and repel an infantry attack with sub-machine guns.  The TAC officer on the tank was so taken aback that he immediately countermanded the order and told him to fight the tank and use machine guns on them. Normally you let them make their mistakes.  I find it fun to fight the Mako.  You can find a good hull down position and take out the enemy quite realistically.  It's actually a fair tank simulator.

That's why I usually kill top level enemies (armatures, colossi, turrets) from the Mako and clean up troopers on foot. This way it's more rewarding than eliminating everything from the Mako and less time-consuming than dealing with everything on foot.

Speaking of the Mako, does anyone else get flashbacks of playing Enduro on the Atari 2600 when driving the Mako?
