In ME1 Pressley is the XO, in ME2 it's Miranda, in ME3 it's Liara. Can it be possible to choose one of our squadmates to be the Second-in-Command? In ME2 and ME3 I would have much preferred Garrus to be XO.
Can we choose our Second-in-Command?

Does it really matter? This isn't the sort of series that gives you free reign.

Liara XO in ME3? hahahaha No.
The Normandy is a human ship. Yeah the turians helped with the first one, but it had an all human crew
ME1 - Pressly
ME2 - Miranda
ME3 - Ashley/Kaidan. If both are dead, I would say Adams
I don't have a problem having an XO in the next game as long as he/she isn't a squadmate. What's the point of having an XO to watch over the ship when the Commander is on the mission if the XO can be on the mission as well?

But I wouldn't mind seeing something like that if it makes sense (in SWTOR for example you can promote one of your companions in the trooper storyline)

Personally if there is one this game I think it should be fixed rather than a let's appoint my pal mechanic.
Much better to write one individual character with xo related content.

Liara isn't the XO in ME3. She's a civilian on an Alliance military vessel, so her role officially was just as a passenger. She'd be outside the chain of command for the ship, just like Garrus, Javik, and Tali. The executive officer is never named in ME3, but it would probably have been the VIrmire Survivor. They're the highest ranking Alliance character on the ship after Shepard. Prior to the VS returning it was probably Adams.
I'd rather Bioware leaned more towards realism on this one than giving the player choice on XO, assuming at least that Arkcon is military or paramilitary. The responsibility for promotions should be a bit above the ship commander's paygrade.
Also if the XO is a player choice it likely won't affect anything. I'd rather have a character locked in as XO and have it play some role in the story.

Ditto
Doubtful you actually be in charge of any in Andromeda as from the ground team.
Heck knowing BSN, you see plenty of people advocating their LI should be 2nd in command for "reasons"

I always thought Joker was the XO in Mass effect 3.

There was never really anything relevant that the XO did anyway, so being able to choose one wouldn't change anything.
but if we are going to be able to choose one, I agree that it shouldn't be a squadmate you can take on missions with you.

I'm really racking my brain here, and in my personal opinion, if we were to have the choice, Jacob is the only one that would fit the bill. Aside from Miranda that is. Otherwise, I'm having trouble picturing it.
Somethings are going to be set in stone for the sake of the story. I can imagine this would be one of those things. I also feel that the word budget that would have to be spent on this could be better used in other areas. Like making sure that the friendship content is rounded out, and that the player dialogue has some variety.
Just my two credits.

The role never really served it's purpose glad they went with the secretary type roles for Chamber and Traynor. It made them useful in a small way.

I want a sexy male XO and the option to enforce a special dress code that requires they go shirtless while on the command deck.

In SWTOR, Trooper was given this choice and I choose Elara (Miranda-alike) over Aric (Garrus-alike).
Garrus-alike being my second-in-command? "Didn't you see me as a command material? Why are you taking my long deserved promotion over that bookish ex-Imp scum? I get things done. Why are you sabotaging me? Are you blind?" ...I mean, seriously... I rather shoot myself in the leg than babysit this entitled jackass who can't seem to remember that I am his superior officer. And remember what Garrus' issues in ME3? Having tough time making bad decisions, whining about how ruthless dictators, stressing about having people depending on him....
pffff... I don't want more drama kings that need pampering...

I'm all for this. In ME3 I just assume it's the VS or if it has to be a non combat crew member, that guy that wanders around the ship randomly saluting you.

Boo got a field promotion from my shep for his valiant efforts in the field whilst he was loose on the Normandy. He escaped detention which is more than could be said of Shep.

As long as he is a human and has a beard. Beards need to be one of the most important thing in ME:A.

I just assumed that Liara was XO because she took over Miranda's office in ME3 and I always thought that was the XO's office.

^It's just a big room.
VS is the best bet. If they are dead or in the hospital, Joker or Adams are about the only other ones that make sense.
It really wasn't all that important in ME1 even though it was sort of neat the computer talked about it when you were in the airlock. In the trilogy XO of Normandy is most relevant at the beginning of ME1 when it is Shepard. ![]()

I always kind of thought Jimmy Vega or maybe Adams was the XO in ME3, What confused me is looking at the rank system, Alenko outranks Shepard in ME3

That's cuz he stayed in the Alliance during ME2 while Shepard worked for Cerberus. But it does seem odd that even though Kaidan outranks Shepard the commanding officer is Shepard. I'm guessing it may be since he's been a Spectre longer than Kaidan (if Kaidan decides to become a Spectre).

I hope we can.
I do not like how in ME2 Miranda assumed she was the second in command.
When she said that, I was like " Uh...when did this happen? Garrus is my second"

I doubt were in a position of power anyway. The impression I got is we are the character taking orders for a while.
