In SWTOR, Trooper was given this choice and I choose Elara (Miranda-alike) over Aric (Garrus-alike).

Garrus-alike being my second-in-command? "Didn't you see me as a command material? Why are you taking my long deserved promotion over that bookish ex-Imp scum? I get things done. Why are you sabotaging me? Are you blind?" ...I mean, seriously... I rather shoot myself in the leg than babysit this entitled jackass who can't seem to remember that I am his superior officer. And remember what Garrus' issues in ME3? Having tough time making bad decisions, whining about how ruthless dictators, stressing about having people depending on him....

pffff... I don't want more drama kings that need pampering...

I always promote Aric, because he got unfairly demoted because the rest of the team wasn't around to punish.  That was a cheap shot.  Otherwise he would have outranked you like he did in the beginning.

That said, you couldn't have had Garrus or Tali as XO on an Alliance ship (in ME1) or a Cerberus ship (in ME2), though I'd much rather have been able to pick Jacob over Miranda.  She's just lucky I got a kickass new suite with the only bathroom on the ship or I'd have had to kick her out of my bedroom, too.  :D

I want a sexy male XO and the option to enforce a special dress code that requires they go shirtless while on the command deck.

Oh come on man. Can't you people keep it in your pants for 2 seconds?

I hope it can be Air Bud (kind of like a counterpart to the Mabari of the DA series)

That implies we were ever wearing pants in the first place.

It's more efficient if we all wear skirts or kilts.

I'd say that Traynor is probably the closest we get to an unofficial XO in ME3, despite being the logistics officer.

There's no way Traynor is an xo, unofficial or otherwise.

I like the character, but I would have a hard time seeing her as an XO

Adams would be best if Ashley/Kaidan aren't on the ship

Traynor basically runs the ship when we're not there, she does most of the admin work, briefs us on various matters and coordinates between departments, how does that not make her akin to an unofficial first officer?

Her rank for one. Another is she has no experience at running a ship or what it takes to keep the ship functioning.

In ME3 XO's functions became obsolete because Normandy was operated by EDI. If it's down to chain of command then I'd say it would be Adams because he is the most experienced member of the Normandy. I really don't see how Kaidan or Ashley could be more experienced than Adams despite their rank.

He's the engineer though, he would normally be needed in the Engineering Deck rather than the CIC.

And why would you need a person in the CIC if EDI is doing everything?

EDI could do most of the regular functions but when it would come down to making decisions an XO would make (like if the ship was under attack) she would only be making recommendations, not actually making the decisions or else she would risk being shut down by the Alliance.

If I could choose an XO, then it would either be my love interest, or just any female character in general. I love it when girls tell people what to do.
