I hope this doesn't turn into another music thread, I just made a stupid joke in my post.

Is it bad that when I saw the original post my immediate thought was "Wouldn't a Mass Effect government simulation game be cool?"

I"d make speeches all day long, even if there was just one person listening, just so I could use air quotes in words which said air quotes made no sense at all.

...plotting to end democracy and install myself being the Empress. Authoritarian government is the only way to go.
Oh, and the first thing I do was send all Asari maidens to enlist in a required military service and utilize Ardat-Yakshi and integrate them into the society as population control. Put those biotics for great use.

Being on the council has GOT to have some street cred. Like a lavish Citadel pad. I would totally throw parties every weekend....scratch that....every night. And have "Ladies night," AKA.....turian males only for my entertainment.

as if the Council is in any way democratic. It's a system that completely disenfranchises all but 3 of its member states on speciest lines (or kicks out and perma-sanctions members who can't be controlled), while leaving "lesser species" without any political influence except for toothless ambassadors. It'd be a bit like if of the nearly 200 member states, only the US, China and Russia had votes in the UN, except the UN were far more powerful and could actually pass international laws as opposed to functionally nonbinding resolutions.
The Council is as authoritarian as it gets already without being a single party dictatorship. Iran would probably be scored higher by Freedom House in terms of political rights.
