Honestly, I'm going to leave it to you guys to count the ways.  Someone mentioned that they weren't getting any love on the front page, so I created this to kickstart some love flow.  Truth be told, I'm pretty ambivalent about Varric, though I am quite fond of Cole and Dorian.

Love Cole (second favourite companion period) and Dorian, but not Varric.  He was okay in 2, but he's dry and quite simply not very funny in DAI.  Just my opinion, but I rarely used him in this game.

I love Cole and Dorian, and Varric is quite cool, but he's not anywhere near my favourite characters, whereas Cole and Dorian pretty much sit at the top.

As far as Verric let me count the ways I don't care that much for him.. My Inquisitor didn't left a finger to stop Cassandra when she was dealing with Verric since he deserved her wrath for lying to her.

 

Cole is ok.. Dorian is a Triventer.. Can he actually be trusted?

And from what Varric would be funny? Hawke also became very bitter. It was sad to see, but understandable. I still like Varric.

I dont like only Sera and Vivienne. Both annoying me.

I never really used Cole much until...

 

The roommates daughter was having one of her weekends here and was playing DA:I.  She had never played a mage and had never sided with the Templars and decided this go around to do both.

 

Wouldn't you know it... her game glitched at one of the worst possible moments and she was left alone... with the Envy demon.  I don't know about you folks, but the moment I realized I was alone, I would have restarted the game from an earlier save.  But then again I have played that part before and know what I would be facing.  I give that gal credit.  She decided to play the game as it was... glitched and all.

 

So there she was, a squishy little mage... all alone... facing the Envy demon.  She had my complete attention.

 

For a time, she was holding her own but still doing badly.  The demon kept healing itself and she was down to 1/3 health and had only 2 potions left.  Enter Cole.  He saved her butt.  Between the two... they took down that demon.  I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

 

Because of that, Cole is in my party a lot more now.

I am still hoping that Varric be a romantic interest in DA:4.

I almost headcanon that my character adopted Cole because he is so cute, and Dorian is my BFF gae and we love shopping

Cole is the best. I want him to return in DA4 I won't believe we only get one game with him.. he looks like a very interesting character.
Dorian is your BFF! He will definitely be featured again.

Varric is funny and cool and tbh I dig his rusty voice... but I think it's over for him, I think they made him Viscount of Kirkwall to write him off any possible reappearance. If he were to appear in another game as companion for the third time that would be a bit annoying

While I like both Dorian and Cole, Varric is both my favourite character in the series and a cornerstone of my party in two games.

That said, do not want to see him in DA4.

What an unexpected thread o_O.

 

I adore Dorian to little pieces; friend, romance, all of it. I agree with Witch Cocktor above that Cole is a puppy. I think he really shines in his interaction with the other characters than as an entity unto himself. As for Varric... I just couldn't get into him in DAI, and some of the banters rather lowered him in my estimation.

Dorian was a great character through and through.  Cole, very nice job of BioWare to make me eventually not want to kill him on sight.  Initially good dialogue and great voice acting and a terrific look, just what I imagined cole would look like.  Only problem is that after a while his stunted commentary started to be a bit off putting for me.

Varric was very good as well but seemed a bit short shifted for some reason, things were a bit incomplete, can't describe it.  (Bianca was a scritch.)

 

Sera is still my fav character out of all of them when all is said and done.

I love Dorian, he's my favourite companion by far! My Inquisitor always gets together with him, thus always gets his heart broken in Trespasser

I've always liked Varric but I, too, was surprised how dull he is in DAI (looks better, though). Even though I wish he would have been available for LI, I have to wonder why his character was somewhat watered-down, especially when compared to his DA2 version. 

 

Dorian... I absolutely adore him to bits. He and Cullen are my favorite characters.

Dorian is decidedly awesome, I hope we see him again in the next one.  Varric doesn't get enough love these days, sadly his thread barely gets anyone is it these days.  I don't think anyone's posted in it for a few months now.  Cole's kinda cool too, I guess.

^ The Dorian thread has similar low periods. At this point, unless some new person comes in with questions, there really isn't anything to discuss. There are a few regulars who check the thread, but that's it. The Dorian thread does not have continual (only occasional) postings of fanworks, like some of the other threads, to keep it bumped.

Sera is my go to rogue and Vivienne is my go to mage.

@AnimalBoy  Awww...  Try out Cole, seriously.  In my first playthrough I didn't use him much because he's incredibly fragile but holy S&*T!  Once he gets his assassin tree filled out, and I usually add Poison Weapons and give him a bit of stealth, he is a monster damage dealer.  At level 26 I watched him do nearly 9,000 in damage to a dragon.  Seriously he is incredible.  Aside from that, I find him to be the most endearing of the companions and he will drop hints the entire time as to secrets being held by other companions.  Love him.

Varric has always been awesome, Cole is weird but that's part of his original charm. Dorian is boring and cliche, like Vivienne without the charm.

I just hate Cole's hat. It doesn't fit the design of the previous games at all.

It makes me angry tbh, like wow...can we fire whoever came up with that design? AARRGGH
