My Question is how can I change the language in Mass Effect?

I ask this because i don't know how I can change the language from English to German.

If you have it from Origin or Steam, you might be able to change the language settings from there.

 

If you have the retail version, like me, this will obviously not work.

Easiest (and most save) is to reinstall it, and use the appropriate little country flag when doing so.

 

There is also the way alter the language entry in the BioEngine.ini inside the "User\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config" folder.

Changing "Language=INT" to "Language=DE" in line 19 should do the trick, but I heard this will cause problems with any DLC installed beforehand.

 

BTW, I always have the reverse problem. I always forget to change to English, before installing, and now play it in German.

I'm not sure. The actually used files should be the under "BioGame\CookedPC\Packages\Localised/XYZ" of your install directory. The structure there seems to mirror the structure of the "CookedPC\Packages" -folder, so other language files may be there.

At the very first (or second) splash screen, before most of the installation process, there should be some small country flags in the upper right corner. These are used for the installation process.

At least that is the case if you got the international/European version.
