The Codex only appears if you choose to spare the Architect in the Dragon Age Keep. Therefore, it takes place after Awakening.

No... My Hero slayed the Architect and yet my Inquisitor still found that message.

Besides, the letter is written by a dwarf who was recalling a story from many ages ago. The story took place long before Awakening.

Wait. The same Codex shows up in Valamar? Strange. I thought the people who chose to slay the Architect found another Codex instead of that one. One who narrates 3 darkspawn that "look like kings", arguing about something and then one of them eats the other. The third one then runs away, scared (supposedly the Architect).

Or are there two codexes that anyone can find, regardless of choice?

There is no other codex. That same codex is named "A different type of darkspawn?" and is found regardless of what happened to the Architect in Valamar.

Ah! Both texts are part of the same codex. Had to check on wiki to get my facts straight: http://bit.ly/1mtUK6D

Sorry for the confusion, guys. o/ I'll try not to let it happen again.

I just think it was a wasted opportunity. The Architect seemed to feel guilt over what he and the magisters did creating the Darkspawn. I mean, if you believe what The Architect was telling the Warden. Corypheus' and the The Architect's goals are polar opposites of each other, and it would have been interesting if you had been able to see either The Architect give you influence in DAI or a dead Architect giving you well, not even a mention.

And the fun of watching your advisors react to being sent to negotiate with The Architect.

It seems so simple to implement I'm just surprised they didn't throw in a quick fix like that. There were so many plot threads tied up with Side Missions in Inquisition that this could have been an easy fix. I hope we'll see his legacy again in the future.
