I am playing KotOR for the first time and CANNOT find the ancient grove. I have found the strange ruins that I can't get into and I found the darkside woman (Juhan?) but no Ancient Grove. Is it a walled off thing with entrance or is it the whole area around Juhan and you just keep fighting kath hounds? Have tried google but everything I've found assumes you have found the entrance. Please help me move on with this.

where you fight Juhani is the Ancient grove also if you can convince her that to return to Jedi Conclave of Dantioone you can recruit her

you are welcome and when you recruit her, her Jedi Class is Jedi Guardian. As a Jedi Guardian, you will have a good DSP/Tank character. Good BAB, Lightsaber specialization feat. Able to have a solid offensive or solid defensive character depending on your build with Juhani.
I am sure that you are familar with Bastila Shan.
Spoiler Alert: You will meet Jolee, Jedi Consular living in the Shadowlands of Kahyyysk(or Zaablar's Homeworld). Jedi Consular's main focus is Force based. Jolee and Juhani can make for a dangerous team if build properly.
No matter how you build your team, some team mates will work well with each other either with the dialogue or combat effectiveness.

At the moment got Bastial (who I never met before this game) and T3-86 (I forget his name 
). We are trying to talk to the sand people - but they don't seem much up for that.
The only person I knew of anecdotally was Carth and that's because so many don't like Kaidan because of Carth. I have no problem with either of them.

t3-m4 is a good skills monkey and decent tank. depending on your build he can be quite useful on Manaan. Canderous is a good DSP and Tank Combination. He is of good use on Tatioone. There is an Procotol Droid with some interesting quirks that is of some use for a Dedicated Lightsider Character if you want a peaceful resolution for the Sand People quest line. Dark Side Character will get a big kick out of him.
