Bit of a situation

A while ago, I brought up the situation of armour defences and how I could get them to work in a "combat-triangle" theme;

Melee > Range > Magic > Melee

So pretty much, we have damage reductions on all the armours.

A player tester pointed out that, during his gameplay experience, only some of the reductions were taking into account.

"If a creature has damage reduction from more than one source, the two forms of damage reduction do not stack. Instead, the creature gets the benefit of the best damage reduction in a given situation."

Results of the feedback of the player;

1) Player is attacking hobgoblin.
2) Wearing plate armour, helmet, shield.
3) In total, for bludge, it should be around 30 bludge reduction. Plate 15, helmet 7, shield 7.

4) Hobgoblin deals 20 damage, but reducts 15 damage only, not the whole 30.

So pretty much, only the damage reduction (bludge) from the plate is taking effect, pretty much making the helmet and shields damage reduction pointless.

No doubt it's hard coded that they aren't stackable, but is there a tip or useful way to make it that helmets and shields would be more useful, possibly through AC? But then does AC not stack?

There are multiple AC types that stack (Armor, Deflection, Dodge, Natural, Shield and Untyped). So that's one way.

Another thing is, you can put anything on an item. There are a lot of properties you can add, including stats. You can add Feats (like Toughness) or stats (like CON) or any kind of thing you can think about. There's always a way to make something desired.

Armour in our project only gives defence stats and bonus hp.

Of course you'd still want helmets for hp and shields but, you know, who'd spend a lot of gold on a helmet just for like 20 more hp xD

But thanks, I never realized the type of AC's. I knew some didn't stack.

I guess I should play the OC more lol, haven't really played much of NwN (in general) since NwN1.

With a script effect you can bypass the hardcoding and make them effectively stack.
