If I recall correctly; Morrigan did not know if it would work, at least not for certain. I don't believe the Dark Ritual was designed to preserve the Souls of the Old Gods, but she knew why the Grey Wardens died when they killed the Archdemon.
So perhaps she simply thought it could work because the Dark Ritual made her chances of pregnancy with a Grey Warden increase significantly.
As far as the Old God seeking out the child like a beacon; it's kind of stupid for an Old God to enter a body of a Grey Warden which has unknown results to this Old God, while jumping to a Darkspawn has a 100% guarantee of survival. However; it's not so stupid if the Old God is actively trying to stop the blight by committing suicide in a Grey Warden body. Having a chance to survive with a half Grey Warden baby would be very appealing.
