(I don't know if this has been talked about, if it has I apologize for wasting your time.)

Ok with the study and success of Time travel magic....to some degree.

Solas talking about ending things as we know it.

The suggestion that we are going to tevinter next.

I feel like we are headed to a "go back in time and fix everything" or to be more specific "go back in time and stop solas from creating the vale and find another way to win against his fellow mages" or "go back to a time of a certain event" that will help somehow"

Personally I don't know how I would feel about if it turned out that we indeed would be going back in time in the next DA game. On the one hand it would make all my choices up till then kind of pointless. On the other hand we could look at as every choice we made had to be made in order to be able to go back in time..maybe idk.

If we are able to go back to a certain point in time (like if we were given a choice of like 3 or more options) I personally don't know where or I should when I would want to go. There are just so many points in the past that we could change that would have a great deal of impact on thedas history.

What do you think?

Time travel has only shown to be possible because of the Breach, and only within the timeline of the Breach. So I don't think Solas' plan relies on it.

True but I feel it could still be possible with enough research and power. Also I didn't mean going back in time as part of Solas's plan. I meant the next Protagonist and possibly dorian (plus allies) trying to go back.

Well, considering the hatred of many people towards time magic (included myself) I think that they would get a huge amount of backlash if they planned to use it again, let alone as a main element of DA 4 plot...

Considering that the majority of people sided with the mages, the backlash is only from the vocal minority.

But you only discover this if you side with the mages, the people who sided with the mages never traveled in time

True we only travel in time if we side with the mages. It doesn't change the fact that there is still a possibility and the fact Dorian helped in its study. Dorian goes back home in the end and we may be going there next game. I feel its still a possibility regardless of which side we choose in DAI. (sided with the mages personally)

I wouldn't be sure that siding with the mages = considering time travel good piece of fiction.

I also sided with the mages in allmost my playthrough but I still loathe time magic.

*groans* I really hope Bioware don't bring back time travel regardless of what any in-game studies result it.

I can't see time travel working, and I can't see it ending in any way but disastrously. Even if I had sided with the mages, I would not support such research.

Did anyone forget that the Necromancer focus ability is essentially a type of time magic?

Whether or not I supported the mages was due to role playing my character and I have an equal number of games on both paths.   However, I prefer having my canon game on the Templar run precisely because it doesn't involve time travel.   Incidentally going on the Templar path doesn't have to mean you support them and in fact I disbanded them after dealing with the demon.

The time travel was a bad move on the part of the writers even if they did say it was tied to the breach.   The way it conflicted with what we had previously been told about the limitations of magic was conveniently glossed over and the mechanics of it were ridiculously simple; an amulet that can open a worm hole in time?   Plus of course we didn't just travel in time (or we would have appeared in the throne room with Alexius) but space as well.

Mind you having an orb that can rip open a hole in the Veil and an anchor that allows us to not only open and close tears but also walk in the Fade also seemed to make something rather easy that had previously been said to be very difficult and only achieved once before in recorded history.    However, at least with the latter objects we had the excuse that they came from an earlier era before the Veil, when magic was commonplace and everyone could use it.

So I would be very disappointed if they should resurrect the idea in future games.   Let's just deal with the situation in the present like we did with the arch demon, with regular magic and conventional weapons and troops, rather than having animated statues, our enemy bouncing around the battlefield on red lyrium steroids, our enemy levitating entire buildings and structures and people freezing and travelling in time.

If a little hole in the breech allowed time travel then our hero Solas plan to get rid of the Veil will allow bunches of time travel!

In DA4 we get to play as our fav hero Solas as he time travels to fix the world!

Whilst travelling back in time and changing things is on my list of possible Solas plans, I don't really expect us to time travel, particularly that far.

More like trying to stop him from time travelling in the first place and erasing our timeline and its inhabitants from existence.

I do think it would be interesting to someday have a game set in the past before the Dragon Age however.

I feel like the whole time thing was more a way to explain certain spells in combat more than anything else. But maybe you're right OP, only time will tell. :P

I disagree with the reasoning that because a majority sided with the mages, it indicates that only a minority disliked the time travelling aspect. You can enjoy quests such as "In Hushed Whispers" but still dislike elements or aspects of it.

An example would be that I like "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" but that does not mean that there is not some elements and aspects of the quest that I do not like.

I misread the title and thought the thread would be about possible prequel games before it hit me ;-;

In all seriousness though, I doubt that Solas would be able to time travel even with the aid of whatever Mythal-ness is now in him.

And in terms of personal preference, I hope Bioware doesn't do more time travel anytime soon, it's just so hard for me to actually get invested because I know in the end we prevent whatever horrible thing will happen.

Yeah, I kind of got the same impression.  Solas seemed like he was more planning to bring the world of the Ancient Elves back, but I took it as him meaning that he wants to bring back the environment of Thedas that existed back then (like the version of the world that was directly connected to the Fade).  Since he was the one who fought against the Evanuris I doubt he'd want to bring back a time when they and their kingdom exists ... the real question is who does he want to "save" by bringing down the veil?

Is he hoping to save the Elves of Modern Thedas, or is there more bastions of Ancient Elvhen still living (like Abelas and the Temple of Mythal) that exist in the world/Fade/In between worlds like the Crossroads?

Where exactly would you time travel back to though if you could?

To before the creation of the Veil? In that case that's the same as Solas' plan...

To before the blights started?

But you know, changing even a small thing in the past automatically changes the future. By doing that there, all the characters we know probably wouldn't even have been born..

DA is a good franshise  but it need to stay in the DAO  fantasy sadly  they are move away from it with every new game .
you can play origin right now and enjoy this  6 years old game . we cant say the same for the other 2 games

I could see us going back in time to see what really happened, but only being allowed to stay long enough to find a way to stop the destruction of the world, then we end up back in the present, seeking out what must be found. Going back in time and changing the whole DA timeline would feel more appropriate for the last game in the series, but I doubt DA4 is the final and if they pulled a Prince of Persia however, it would top ME3's ending for rage I bet.

Inquisition used time travel like Buffy used parallel worlds: it wasn't actually about time travel but establishing the stakes of what would happen should the Inquisition fail. For that very specific purpose, it was a success.

If, however, they make time travel an actual part of DA4's plot, I will hate it.
