I am currently in Kruth's Quarters, in the town of Luskan. I have pretty much mapped the place out, but I am having trouble closing the portal. I read that I have to put two items into the portal to close it. I have the glowing sphere, what is the other item and where can I find it? Thanks so much!

If you have a book describing the ritual, and watch it happening, those should give you clues.

 

I don't know if I recall correctly, but there is a room with praying skeletons that will not automatically attack you.  I think you pick a fight with them, they will be joined by a higher level undead who will drop the second item you need.
