Yes kids would add something. But then again you were never in any environments in which kids should be present. (Citadel maybe) But if they decide to add them I want them to be able to die. Not that **** that Bethesda pulled with skyrim (yea I got the mod to fix that), it's not that I'm some sick guy who enjoys murdering children but it would subtract all the depth immediately again which children would provide.
Children NPCs?

Fallout 4 pulls that too.
But as someone already mentioned, killing kids is a sensitive market in the media and that would cause problems with activists and such.
I don't mind having kids in games, it shows extra work and dedication to making the environment as real as possible.

Under current situation, with ARK and everything. I think children will be possible.

Killing them is not necessary, but I would not say no having the option to slap any naughty child as well as women like they did with Morrigan in DA:O.

There should be children of all species running around the ark ship. Though they shouldn't be anything more than background npc's. We don't need them involved in the narrative.
For the most part I agree, unless they could write a kid that briefly appears that can be cute and funny, like the little girl in Ant-Man or something.

I wouldn't mind kids occasionally showing up- like in TNG. The show occasionally had children, but they weren't a main part of most episodes.

Personally I would rather the origin story be left ambiguously defined so that we can headcanon it.
Unless they want to do another DA:O and give us multiple options.
What does that have to do with children NPCs?...
OT: I think, if done right, it's a good thing to have kids running around.

I think it would be much more immersive having children in the game. If the Ark theory is correct, I would love to see entire families of different species aboard the Ark.

So I can watch my character have recurring nightmares about a complete stranger he interacted with for 30 seconds because people are expected to believe that a dead kid is somehow worse than a dead adult? No thanks.

Agree. Actually absence of kids in ME was pretty strange. You're like big hero, saving sapient species from extinction and there are no kids anywhere. What are fighting for then?
What are we fighting for? You mean other than "saving sapient species from extinction"?

I'd rather not see any child characters personally.
Most children are terrible actors. It is why Telltale's The Walking Dead cast an adult as Clementine rather than hiring a child actor. If there are any child characters, I'd rather they were mainly just seen as background NPCs that you don't interact with, and that any with speaking roles are limited to one or two at most, and that they neither have a major role in the story or a lot of dialogue.

I think we should go even further and make Ryder be a mother to a ten month year old - let's see how tough she is after having been woken at 23:00, 00:00, 01:00, 03:30, 4:30 and bloody 06:00 by the whingeing little snotbag because she has a cold and you have a cold AND EVERYBODY HAS A COLD AND NO SLEEP.
Having missions you go on where you just want to lie down and sleep but you can't because something needs feeding, or a nappy changed, or be played with, or is stealing the damn remote and eating it again, or is deciding to empty all the drawers out and throw clothes everywhere would be excellent fun.
Yeah.
Kids.

We can have children in ME:A but they should be just as susceptible to danger as everyone else. And no, I don't mean that the protagonist should be distraught when some of the little ones die. The universe is a dangerous place, and if there are children in a relatively dangerous location then it stands to reason that they would be susceptible to it. After all, adding children NPCs is all about making the world more believable right?
So, for example, if there is an alien organism that can utilize and reanimate the corpses of the dead to propagate itself and it gets lose in a civilian sector, you should expect to see children targeted by said organism.
Spoiler
I agree. It lacks as much weight when I simply see both of little Jona'Hazt's parents talking about him while being killed by geth, instead of watching he himself get blown apart into red mist or suffocated just the same by the toasters. How about some Krogan Rebellion era archive footage of salarian/turian/asari kids literally being eaten, eviscerated or evaporated in asteroid strikes by the hyperviolent battletoads? Reapers tossing some kids and infants that can't be used as husks into a protein vat? Wonder how many less would have cured the genophage/saved the geth/ chose synthesis with such things present to provide a more fair and balanced treatment of those options?
As you alluded to, Dead Space did this right. Kids don't get spared of the horrors of mutilation and calculated genocide by virtue of being innocent according to our systems of morality.
perhaps they needn't make it as graphic because ME isn't primarily a horror series, but children only being mentioned in dialouge yet never visually breaks immersion and immediately calls attention to how sanitized the subject matter of the setting is, all for the sake of most players being able to enjoy the good feelz and consequences of some of the rather reprehensible actions they are allowed.

All wars are in one way or another about preservation of your way of life, your power and security, so basically about prosperity of your children, your kind. Even if people create delusional political explanation, they are still ruled by those basic instincts.

Kids are cool. Sure, why not.
I don't want to see them getting killed, though. Kids and animals, I don't like seeing them hurt, even if it is just fiction.

And this means we have to personally interact with the little demonspawn...why exactly? All they need to know is that they're being protected. Keep the brats in school and out of my way. I have better things to worry about in an intergalactic warzone than babysitting a poorly written waste of space who only exists to create forced drama and tug on people's parental heartstrings.

Would it really be that costly to have different size character models standing around in the backdrop?
