This is quite simple. The image that says "Your hero" and has a female/male built, says N7 and it was delivered by themselves.

A leak with no actual proof says that is false.

The character in the photo is not the character from the trailer.

believe what you want. Just because you are N7 doesn't really mean that you are Shepard all over again

"Even when the ‘N7’ comes on in the trailer," he continued, "it’s just a big reminder that ‘N7’ and everything that stands for is consistent across the games, and still means things—means camaraderie and support from the other characters. It means being part of a team. Hopefully, it’s coming to mean really great gameplay in the combat experience and everywhere."

I didn't post anything about a leak here. These quotes (items 2-3) came from Bioware, not a leak.

And like I said, Mike Gamble indicated that these weren't final outfits. The N7 could be there just for reference for all we know. So our hero may or may not have an N7 logo. Given that BioWare said that the character from the reveal trailer isn't our hero and they had the N7 logo, I could see that being the case.

Those quotes probably mean that you are not "Commander Shepard, Hero of the lalala!"; just a rookie. (N7, but a rookie)

Well, let's look at a few things:

1) What does it take to be an N7 in the Alliance Military: The highest grade of training, N6, provides actual combat experience in combat zones throughout the galaxy. If the trainee survives these scenarios in "admirable and effective fashion," he or she finally receives the coveted N7 designation. N7 is the only ICT designation that may be worn on field or dress uniforms".

So you need actual combat experience.

2) "We know that “The protagonist of the game is someone who is “becoming an hero.” He’s skilled and capable but hasn’t reached the legendary status Shepard has even at the beginning of the Mass Effect trilogy.” http://gamingbolt.co...lanets-and-more

At the beginning of the trilogy, Shepard was N7.

3) “So first, we don’t want to make ‘Shepard 2′, or Mass Effect 4 with like, ‘oh there’s no more Shepard but you’re a soldier in the universe’. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest.” http://www.vg247.com...pard-2-bioware/

How would this be true if you are an N7 soldier?

So while this doesn't mean the protagonist can't be an N7, it creates enough reasonable doubt to say that may they won't be either.

The codex for N7 suggests you can't be a rookie. If you look at the U.S. military, N7 would be like the U.S. Army Special Forces and you don't get there straight from basic training.

I hope that we'll get to choose between at least two or maybe three back stories just like in Mass Effect (1). Along with the choice of the psychological profile. However, I do have the [gut] feeling that unfortunately so Ryder's origin story will be as simple and boring as him/her being Ex-Cerberus, therefor possibly having some sort of internal conflict regarding pro-human ideologies, etc. I highly doubt that it's going to be anything original or just plain interesting (or even slightly mysterious). I'm just waiting for BioWare to prove me wrong though, I want them to (but I'm just not expecting it).

I think it would be cooler if the protag was just accepted into the N7 program, not yet a fully seasoned soldier but starting to become a N7 graduate. I think they said that one of the antagonists would be N7 in a leak somewhere.

Just because you are a sarge, doesn't mean that you are fit for a tactical group or that you have what they are looking for (which is what the N7 is). So my theory still stands. We are a soldier wearing her/his shiny new N7 armor. Or maybe that happens at the end of the game and the entire story for this instance in Andromeda is earning the title

Sarge? What do you mean?

And you don't just get to be an N7 because "you have what they are looking for". Read the codex. You need combat experience.

However, we could earn an N7 designation by the end of the game. That much I can believe.

Sarge = Sergeant, as far as i know.

They have combat experience and yet they are not necessarily qualified for that kind of group. (Don't tell me what to do in that tone, otherwise i could tell you to google what sarge means instead of telling you)

I want the origin story to show a young woman (yes, woman, suck it up) fighting her way through grim crime ridden streets, being shown being caught by faceless cops, put in the military and a series of montages of her fights in a series of dramatic engagements - with the last shot being a long slow pan showing her looking out across a barren windswept world.

Basically an excuse to use this music:

I don't know if N7 will actually be a thing in the new game, it could be complete notion to the past. Maybe a notion to the great Shepard that distracted the Reapers at Earth so they could flee the galaxy. Basically from our characters view they don't have a clue that the Reapers were stopped because the Ark left before the endings. We could be under the assumeption that Shepards efforts distracted the Reapers so the characters we have now and our character were taught that Shepard was a hero and sacrificed themselves so Civilization could continue to prosper in another place.

I imagine our antagonist probably could be starting crap with the Andromedian species that leads us in conflict with them because they are a member of our Ark Ship. Would be interesting if we have to stop a member/ faction of the Ark Ship to prevent the Milky Way Species from getting destroyed.

As to the qualification requirements, the codex states the following:

Initially, candidates train for more than 20 hours per day, leading small combat teams through hostile terrain with little sleep or food. Trainees who do well are awarded an internal designation of N1 and are invited to return. Subsequent courses - N2 through N6 - are often held off-planet and include instruction in zero-G combat, military free-fall (parachuting), jetpack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics, and frontline trauma care for human and alien biology.

The highest grade of training, N6, provides actual combat experience in combat zones throughout the galaxy. If the trainee survives these scenarios in "admirable and effective fashion," he or she finally receives the coveted N7 designation. N7 is the only ICT designation that may be worn on field or dress uniforms.

So you have to be qualified for the N7 group.  Going through the program qualifies you.

I didn't say Sarge nor have I seen anything confirming the character's rank; hence my question and confusion. Infer what you will about my tone. Castigation has no effect on me so don't waste your time.

I implied that being an N7 rookie doesn't mean that you don't have experience as a soldier. As i said in my example, someone with experience is not enough to be part of a tactical group. It requires more than that. The conclusion is that you could be a highly trained soldier, but still be a rookie as an N7. I don't know why you assumed that being an N7 rookie means you just left the military academy...that's on you.

And, again, I didn't say that the character has no idea whatsoever about what s/he is doing and has no talents at all..taking the conversation towards having previous training and experience and what not, was also on you..which doesn't hold against what i said. How is a fresh N7 soldier, inexperienced? i didn't say that.

What has an effect or not is of no concern of mine. Luckly for me, you probably live very far away ^_^  However, you do have a very disgusting demeanor and a condescending attitude that i find repulsive, specially when you tell others (I assume you tell others and not just me) what to do (like when you told to read the codex as if i'd never read it before) when you don't even use a google to find the meaning of a simple word ^_^

Let's end this. I'm at work and i don't feel like wasting free time on you. Be a man and stop trying to pick a senseless fight with me ^_^

I see that avatar.  We have a Battlefront beast around here?

I bet you are.  Judging by your name you are a Geth/Legion fan too.

I really would not say that I am a "beast" but I think I am pretty good.

As for your second statement, yes, I'm a Legion fan. In fact he is my second favorite squadmate.

I'm getting started now.  Forgot how much people hate doing objectives these days lol.  Definitely not a bad game though. Maps seem to be pretty good from what I see so far.

Legion is my favorite.  It's a shame he got the shaft so hard.  Get him for a few missions in ME2 and then never again.  Lol.  He was nasty with that widow though.

Hi5!

Well, isn't this just full of delicious irony...

I'll keep this civil (though curt) because I tend to enjoy my time here and don't want to get banned:

There is nothing definitive stating that the protagonist will be an N7, or at least an N7 as we understood it in the previous games (i.e., super soldier).  Everything that BioWare has said publicly about the character supports this and I provided direct quotes from the developers (as opposed to leaks that should be taken with a grain of salt).  Nothing I said pertaining to this is objectively wrong.

It is your prerogative whether or not you believe what BioWare said.

I'm going to totally derail where this thread is and has been and say, while I understand thinking the protag name may be Ryder (dog-tag, song)...I'm really hoping it's not.....I hear that name and all I can think of is Flynn Rider from Tangled and his "they never get my nose right!"

I actually find hilarious how now you want a civil conversation when yesterday you cared nothing about what i was thinking about your poor behaviour.. I don't think the protag will be from Andromeda unless they ark has everyone in stasis pods when leaving MW. I'm leaning more towards Ark-born/colonist.
