There is nothing definitive stating that the protagonist will be an N7, or at least an N7 as we understood it in the previous games (i.e., super soldier). Everything that BioWare has said publicly about the character supports this and I provided direct quotes from the developers (as opposed to leaks that should be taken with a grain of salt). Nothing I said pertaining to this is objectively wrong.
I agree, we can't assume that just because it's on the armour in the trailer that we are indeed an N7 graduate.
For all we know, the protagonist wearing the N7 tag is because we were once part of the rag-tag militia from ME3 that took the name "N7 Special Ops" as a tribute to Shepard and the other N7's, which Hackett says he (unofficially) let slide because it boosted moral. Being from that group means we could have that tag, despite not having undergone the N7 training or even being a member of the Alliance military.
(Or maybe Ryder is just cosplaying like Conrad Verner?) ![]()
