Quick thinking about this, BW could do Mark Meer, & or Jennifer Hale for some of the codex entries as a throw back to Commander Shepard.
Hmm... I definitely would not want Jennifer Hale to read long dry passages.

I'd much rather they just make the game than listen to player requests like bring back the codex guy. Why worry about something this trivial? What if there is a scheduling conflict? What if the guy wants an unreasonable amount of monry? What if they find a great new voice actor just breaking into the business? Seriously players should stop trying to be developers. Is anyone seriously NOT going to buy this game if bioware doesn't or can't bring back the codex guy? I highly doubt it so should Bioware honestly spend time worrying over fans getting upset of this minutia of design?
Yeah the voice codex entries were great but they didn't make the game and they don't define Mass Effect. So really anyone with a decent amount of announcer experience could probably do the same work. Would it be cool if it was the same guy? Sure but it could also be just as cool if they got someone new. Granted it could be worse as well but its so trivial that is doesn't warrant Bioware wasting time on this just to please people.
I don't think anybody is worried about it. They're just saying that they would like it, and having a little conversation.

Requests are harmless. The developers will decide what is worth listening to, and what isn't. Often times studios have entire positions designed specifically towards that end. You've actually taken a far bigger step towards "trying to be a developer" by telling people what is worthwhile.
Players will talk about what is important to them. Developers will decide what to do about it. This isn't news to anyone.

Right requests are fine. And then you get the whole QQ crowd that complains when developers don't listen to them and conversely you get people complaining when a developer does listen to their fans. ![]()
That was a pretty p!ss poor attempt at deflection by the way.
There is ZERO to gain from listening to players during development they will antagonize their fans no matter what they do because fans are not a homogenized entity. Fans want things that are mutually exclusive from each other. in simpler terms any give design choice makes some people happy others angry. So if this is a given (love to see you try and rationalize that away) what fans should bioware listen to? The ones YOU agree with? Bioware gets more actionable data from questionnaires than the forums which is filled more with petulant man-children then actual thoughtful ideas. They get a far greater diverse sampling with questionnaires than forums as well.
So sure you can chime in all you want about trivial requests and yeah as much as you are trying to make me out as the "bad" guy for saying the choice of who should voice the codex is trivial. You haven't actually refuted the point. Why should Bioware waste time and energy on this request? Why is filling this request important? Why isn't it better to just let them design the game and pick whomever they do? What because you SUBJECTIVELY like the guy? So now your subjective tastes supersede anyone else's? Or supersede other design consideration bioware might have?
Love to know how I am the 'bad' guy for saying that we should just let bioware design the game they want to make. Please enlighten us.
We're getting a codex?

how about a short wet one?
how about a short wet one?
..... Meer's boring utterly flat delivery as Shepard is better?

But but but it's this guy
i am not trying to be a developer i just pointed out a silly request which while silly it is a tradition.
Traditions are silly after all but they re part of the culture.
And i would like my culture be narrated by this guy
I want either Morrigans or Cassandras voice to be an option, -passionately sighs- I could listen to them forever...
Morrigan? Claudia Black? Yes please! She's awesome. She voiced Admiral Daro'Xen in ME2/3... her voice almost made genocide a reasonable alternative to peace. ![]()
Text only. I'd rather see such resources invested into the actual gameplay or storyline.

Codex is an integral part of Bioware games.
All must read-hear it.
I enjoy reading but some people really have a hard time reading and prefer hearing it.
Just laying out my own preference. But I avoid codex entries because more often than not the science is off, bad, or just plain stupid so it doesn't really impact me if it's spoken or not. But let's be honest, if Bioware came out and said hey all we can either have another companion or extra story content or we can have some guy read the codex entries, I gotta believe most would be willing to forego spoken codex entries.
Hopefuly not
I'll except Patrick Stewart or Morgan Freeman, anyone else is an insult to my ears
If Morgan Freeman was voicing it though any inconsistencies between what the codex says and what happens in-game (mechanics etc) would disappear - the game would automatically rewrite itself so that the mechanics fit whatever Morgan Freeman says.

I like the codex but yeah i'd be happy enough with a text based codex, if it provided more voiced lines in the main game and/or more detaield codex entries..
You might want to tell the writers that, given they seem to forget it exists most of the time.
meaning?

Their storylines and actions are often at odds with what the codex says. It's like they haven't read it.
An example? i am a sucker for codex entries. But i do not overthink about them.
I guess I'm the only one who turned off his speakers so I could read the codex without someone babbling in my ear. I can read at least twice as fast as that guy speaks, I can't wait until he finishes when I'm looking for information. I dislike audio books for the same reason.
I could never do that. I don't even read the secondary codex cuz codex guy won't read it to me. I usually put the codex when I am having to do the dishes or something to help me pass the time from doing the chores.
What the title says.
The codex guy is as much an iconic aspect of Mass effect as the galaxymap-unchartedworldsmusic combo is.
Is he coming back?
I think that would be awesome.
I wouldn't mind being able to switch voices, like we can with Siri (iOS).
