Is there a way to find out what you missed?

From what I've played and seen, all upgrades have the following tree:
1.      all guns

• 5 times a +xx% damage (except assault rifle who has 6)
• 2 special upgrades ( armor penetration / extra rounds / headshot damage / critical damage / accuracy)

2.      armor

• biotic / tech: 5 times +xx% damage
• biotic / tech: 2 times a special upgrade (duration / cooldown)
• medigel: 5 times +1 medigel storage
• trauma module
• redundant field generator
• emergency shielding
• damage protection: 5 times +xx%

3.      ship

• advanced mineral scanner (Miranda)
• extended fuel cells (Samara)
• heavy ship armor (Jacob)
• med-bay upgrade (ship's doctor, e-mail)
• modular probe bay (Thane)
• multicore shielding (Tali)
• Thanix Cannon (Garrus)

You can also see the upgrades you installed on the ship in the CIC on the Normandy's hologram near the galaxy map.
4.      prototypes

• Geth shield strength: 2 times
• Geth sniper rifle
• heavy bone weave
• heavy muscle weave
• heavy skin weave: 5 times
• heavy weapon ammo: 5 times
• Krogan shotgun
• Krogan Vitality
• Avalanche
• Cain
• Missile launcher
• Mordin Omni-tool
• Subject zero biotic boost

5.      special (from stores)

• bypass module
• hack module

Argh at the list thing, drives me nuts.
Don't ask for their locations

Also, Normandy upgrades are displayed on status view, which replaces galaxy map. It indicates graphicaly all ship upgrades, including fuel and scanning.

You can also ask Joker how the ship is doing and he should say something like "Shes the best she can be" or "Well she isn't ready yet"

Thats how kept track of the normandy upgrades.
