Hi all! Don't know if some of you remember me or not, but I was last active in the BG1 no-reloads thread almost 2 years ago. Had a Beast Master, a fledgling Totemic Druid, a fledgling solo Priestess of Helm and a Sorcerer with random spell picks going there.

 

Decided to look up some of those characters, and maybe try to complete their runs.

 

My install is still intact on the hard drive. Same computer, same operative system (Win 7).

Playing BG1 using EasyTutu.

Everything about the game seems to be working except many of the sounds.

I haven't changed any of the sound settings since I last played.

 

The ones I hear:

- music (e.g. battle music, music playing while in menus, the music when I fire up the game)

- ambient sounds

- 'spell is completed' sounds

 

The ones that are completely silent (as far as I can tell):

- casting sounds (before spell is completed)

- character selection and -direction sounds

- effect sounds like firing arrows, etc.

- walking sounds

 

Any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Problem solved!

 

I noticed I had the exact same problem in several games (BG, Icewind Dale, Planescape:Torment).

 

The culprit was the settings for my speakers. It was set to '5.1 speaker confuguration' instead of 'Stereo'.

Glad it's sorted. I have all sound switched off for my games, so couldn't help.

 

I like to have my ears in RL so that if the phone rings, someone knocks on the door, or my wife shouts up the stairs that there is a coffee downstairs, I can deal with the situation whether good or bad.

 

Wife is losing her hearing, so has television/radio too loud to hear the doorbell.

 

I therefore need to answer the door.

Wow, I would be SO handicapped without sound!
