Hi folks,  I'm trying to play BGT for the first time rather than playing a game of Tutu and the SoA/ToB separately.

I built a folder for BGT, cloned my SoA/ToB into that folder and followed the directions - I thought.  I just got done spending every free moment for the last four days setting everything up, modding, adding NPCs, kits, etc. and now I want to play.

Problem is, when I click the icon all I get is BG2 options.  I've got a number of BGI adds that took fine when I loaded them, NTotSC, DSotSC, Secret of Bonehill, etc. so I'm thinking BGI should be there or they would have loaded into the BGT folder.

So...how do I get me game to start @ Candlekeep rather than Irenicus' dungeon?  Or did I miss something & do it wrong.  I followed the BWP (v)11 exactly with regard to order of installation etc. so I don't know what I could've done wrong but this IS my first time playing this way.

Any help is appreciated.  CKT

CKT.  It may be a stupid question, but can I just check that you have actually started a game?  The starting screens will look like BG2 as seen here

Start_zpsykx9xzmc.jpg

because you're now using the BG2 engine.  However, if the installation is correct the game will actually start in Candlekeep (unless you click specifically on the New BG2 button).

I'm not sure what do you mean by "cloned".

To install BGT in few easy steps:

1) Install BG1; patch it (GoG version is already patched)

2) Install BG2, patch it (again, GoG is patched)

3) Install few mods in BG2 that need to go before BGT (ToBex, Ascension, BG2Fixpack) if you want

4) Install BGT on your BG2. It should ask you for your BG1 folder ("your BG1 folder is c:/....whatever.)

You don't build a folder for BGT. It's installed in BG2 folder.

I think I did everything right but I didn't patch BG1 & I only patched BG2 w/the ToB patch.  What I meant by 'clone' was that I kept a clean installation of SoA/ToB and made another to install BGT.  But when I get to the screen Grondo0 is showing it's taking me to Irenicus' dungeon, not to Candlekeep.

Maybe I didn't patch it...here's all the stuff I installed in order:

BGT 118; Dark Side of the Sword Coast (v)2.17; Northern Tales of the Sword Coast (v)170; Northern Tales of the Sword Coast (v)171; Secret of Bonehill (v)2.75; Drizzt Saga (v)3; Lure of Sirine’s Call (v)13; BG1 NPC Project (v)22; Indira NPC (v)10.4; Gavin NPC (v)9; BG1 UB (v)13.1; Amber NPC (v)4; Isra NPC (v)2.1; Fade NPC (v)4.0; Valen NPC (v)45; Auren Aseph (v)9; Sarah NPC (v)3.1; Haldimir NPC (v)2; Tyris Flare (v)7; Hotfix for Gavin BG2 (v) 20; Gavin NPC BG2 (v); de’Arnise Romance  (v)4; Banter Pack BG2 (v)14; Mazzy’s Friendship SoA & ToB (v)2.2; Imoen Friendship SoA & ToB (v)2.2; Viconia Friendship SoA & ToB (v)3.3; Yoshimo Friendship SoA & ToB (v)3.1; BG2 UB (v)26; SCS (v)30 (minus tactical challenges); NPC Flirt Pack (v)1.03; Romantic Encounters (v)9; Cross Banter Mod Pack for BG2II (v)15; NPC Kit Pack (v)4; Song & Silence Mod for Bards & Thieves (v)6; Divine Remix (Beta)(v)8; Paladins of Faerun Kit Pack (v)4; Sword & Fist (v)7; Rogue Rebalancing (v)4.51; BGT Tweaks (v)11; BG2 Tweak Pack (v)16; Item Randomizer (v)6.6; Black Guard Kit Mega Mod Kits (v)1.01L; Level 1 NPCs (v)1.9; Chosen of Mystra; HardTimes-v2

Maybe I'll start over and use my GOG versions.  I have them, I just use the older thre/four separate disk versions b/c GOG versions don't wprk well with Tutu when I play that way but if you say they'll wpork w/BGT that might be the way to go.  CKT

I've killed all my old installations (except BGEE and BGIIEE which I'm not using) and I'm starting from scratch with a four in one set (I guess this is what is referred to as GoG versions).  Thanks again for the help.  I'm itching to follow up on Gawain's completionist no-reload thru the entire game but I got to get to Candlekeep first.  :) CKT

GOG versions found at http://www.gog.com/

Your disk version will need to be patched (both BG1 and BG2) before you start modding.

Best of luck.

Hope it works for you this time. If I can recommend one thing - once you're done installing BGT, try starting your game. If it starts in Candlekeep, exit, and then install the mods you want to use. Just to be on the safe side....

Aasim,  Really good advise!  I wasted something like 12-16 hours the first time through.

I couldn't get the GoG version for BG1/TotSC to work so I had to use the old set with three disks.  Then I patched it with BG Patch 5512.

For BG SoA/ToB the GoG disks worked so I guess I'm good there.  I just thought that to be on the same side, maybe I should toss in the ToB Patch just in case.  I've opened BG, SoA, and ToB to make sure each of them worked correctly and they did.

Now I'm getting ready to upload ToBEX and BG2 Fixpack (v)10.  I'm gonna check out Ascension also - not familiar with that one or whether it would interest me. Once I do that, I'll upload two (the three) you mentioned into my SoA/ToB folder.

If you look in here again, I have another ?.  I want to use a mod called Chosen of Mystra (also called BG2 Subrace) which I REALLY want to use to make my PC a Tiefling (Imoen too) to simulate his birth as the offspring of a being (Bhaal) that made his throne in the abyss.  Alternatively, he could be a Aasimar, with the backstory there being that AO, the overlord, thought the balance toward evil was becoming one sided by the Bhaalspawn machinations and , to offset it, allowed the Triad (Torm, Helm and Ilmater) to infuse one Bhaalspawn with Aasimar essence rather than Tiefling.  My problem is that that mod is not listed anywhere in the BWP manual so I don't know where I should install it.  Any thoughts.  CKT

You've been a great help and I'm following your directions closely.  I think this will be a much more interesting gaming experience than playing Tutu first and then beginning SoA/ToB afterward.  Thanks SOOOOO much!  CKT

Just to clarify, the GoG version is not a set of disks, but a downloadable service from the web site I gave you before.  Hence you were correct that you needed to patch your version, though GoG comes patched already (in which case it wouldn't be a good idea to try and put the patch on again).

I agree with Aasim that it's a good idea to check after installing BGT that the game is working properly.  If I'm installing a lot of mods, some of which I'm not fully familiar with (as you are planning to) I would do that test a number of times.  That way if something does go wrong you've narrowed down what the culprit was.

It's probably fine to install whenever you want, but after BGTrilogy. I'd put it almost last (just before SCS). Fwiw, it's a cool mod.

As per Ascension, I consider it to be a "non-official fix" to ToB - a lot of the stuff that was cut out from the original ToB release due to time constraints is packaged there (the creator of Ascension worked for Bioware at the time). It beefs up the final encounters quite drastically, so choose carefully. Best of luck, whatever you decide.

Thanks guys, I was able to patcg BG w/5512 and BG2 w/26498 and then upload ToBEx (Beta) 0026 and BG2 Fixpack (v)10.  BGT 118 loaded fine and THANK YOU, my PC started in Candlekeep.

I will take you advise and start a game after most mods where it should be easy for me to tell if it 'took' or not.  That could save me a lot of frustration as you both have mentioned.  Thanks.

Next up, Dark Side of the Sword Coast. CKT

Hey guys,  I know I've been a pain on this but I've got EVERYTHING installed for my first go at BGT and I'm officially pumped and ready to get started.  The last thing I'm trying to install the BP BGT Worldmap (v)9.0.1.  It looks like this is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, especially for showing the areas for new mods - which I've included like Northern Tales of the Sword Coast, Dark Side Sword Coast.

If it's not critical then I'm done but if it is I want to get it to work  Problem is I keep getting this error:

I am not sure, as I have never installed BGT, but from the various readme files that I have read, you need to have the worldmap in your game folder, but NOT installed before you install your other mods. AFTER they are installed, you install the worldmap.

I would appreciate input on this as to whether this is correct as sooner or later I will be installing BGT myself.

@CKT

I'll see what that's about and let you know in the evening; it's work time for me now. The error message says that setup file is instructed to copy a file over and it isn't found where it should be.

And as Grim says, to properly install Worldmap (at least for a few mods) you need to have it extracted to your game folder before you install the mods it affects. I'm not sure if that affects DSoTSC & similar however. I'll check tonight.

Thanks.  Understand about work - just getting in from a day at the Pentagon.  Ugh.

So, I installed everything in the order this thing gives which had the map at the very end.  I've always installed in the order this manual says, even with Tutu and regular BGII SoS/ToB.  Gosh, I hope I don't have to install everything again.  Argh!

I am almost certain that this affects both the Drizzt Saga and DSoSC, though this depends on the options that you made when installing.

Read the readme files for those in particular.

With Drizzt Saga the installation actually asked you if you want to put the areas on the Worldmap. If you say yes, then the worldmap needs to be there beforehand, though not installed.

If you say no, then the areas will not be shown on the worldmap, but you are sent to those areas. I think the first option is best.

I think that DSoSC is the same.

Mod installation order IS important particularly for mods such as DSoSC and Dark Horizons.

The installation order is different in EE and BGT, don't ask me why. Be aware of that.

At this stage, I would avoid modding EE much as it is buggy anyway.

Sorry man, I was falling off my feet yesterday, and completely forgot about this. Anyhow, latest Worldmap.

Download, extract to BG2 folder, if it asks to overwrite anything say yes. I've checked WMap files, your installer bugs out as if the mod isn't even extracted (it says it's missing what appears to be a critical file - map_mod_links, which should be worldmap folder which should be in your game folder. Is it?).

Thank you.  I was able to install it in no time flat.

The problem is that there are so many read me files, that most mere mortals don't read them all, or scan read them and miss something important.

It's like when you buy new equipment: If all else fails, read the instructions.

When the instructions are several pages long, people think, blow this, I'll just try try it out, and usually that is fine. Not always!!
