That dog tag on the console...what if Ryder is a rouge N7 who's plans threaten the stability of the new colonies and you're trying to stop them?

Then a lot of people's planned names won't work out.
Excellent!!
Like mine, Ezell Ryder. Wouldn't work. But it is a possibility, that Ryder is the guy in the E3 2015 vid.
Then I really hope his first name is Dick.

Ryder could just be the manufacturer of the dog tags. After all the speculation on here that'd be hilarious
Or a crewmember.
Or the person in charge of everything that the main character reports to
Or someone who took off their dogtags, for some reason to do some work on the ship, and forgot to put them back on before the ship left

The choice of song for the teaser trailer might lend some weight to this theory.
"Ghost riders in the sky"
We know the N7 in the trailer isn't the protagonist, but he obviously plays some important role in the story since he was the focus of the first trailer. We were also told that the song choice was deliberate and the reason for that choice would be clear later. Near the end of the trailer we see him and two companion get attacked by hostile aliens after encountering ancient ruins. What if he disappears during that attack and it is his disappearance the protagonist is initially following up on? Maybe the protagonist isn't the first pathfinder. Assuming the N7 is named Ryder, the song is then referencing his disappearance.
Interestingly, the two companions of the N7 seem like they could be a match for Cora and Drack, two companions of the protagonist mentioned in one of the rumored leaks.
It could be an interesting twist if the N7 disappears but isn't quite dead, and emerges later in the story as an antagonist. What if the Khet (presumably the hostile aliens) aren't truly villains, and they have good reasons for trying to prevent the recovery of Remnant tech? Maybe Ryder, or whatever the N7 is named, goes full Dances With Wolves after having spent some time in captivity.
Heh, so much speculation! This is interesting idea, I don't like the name Ryder anyway.

I'm not scared of a piece of make up.
What is Ryder was really actually just the name of the woman who went to space in that film and has nothing to do with Mass Effect Andromeda at all?

Or it could mean that Nicolas Cage is going to be the main antagonist? You're looking too far into what is a coincidence at best at the moment.
I was actually hoping we might get this kind of twist.
Instead of having another temporary squadmate who inevitably dies early in the game, it's actually the character we've spent time getting to know and roleplaying who doesn't (seemingly) survive the opening section. Which is why when they show up alive later on and as one of our antagonists, it makes the shock and sense of betrayal seem all the more real to the audience.
Ryder being the decoy protagonist and/or antagonist would be a fun reveal.
I love this idea. I'm getting that out of the way right away. I love it, but ...if Ryder ends up being Cerberus then I sure hope his plot armor isn't so thick that I can't throw him out the airlock as soon as I found that out.
Then I really hope his first name is Dick.
Biggus

Well, they said that N7 guy in the trailer was not your PC.
The tags are off, so they're not that N7 guy's dogtags.
Maybe Ryder did go rogue...at some point. I mean, who knows when that scene may be reflected...contextually within the game.
I do know that N7 guy in the trailer walks like the Law.
...although, I feel like there's more to it than that.
I wont pay full price for another Cerberus game. I think its both.
Protagonist and Antagonist are related possibly siblings.
Yeah, I think there is some kind of bond there. Siblings, maybe, because of that one picture with the adult and 2 kids. But even then, I'm not sure if it's as clean cut as Protag/Antag.
Or it could mean that Nicolas Cage is going to be the main antagonist? You're looking too far into what is a coincidence at best at the moment.
One of the devs stated that the song choice was deliberate and had some relevance to the story.
I'm just speculating and may up completely wrong, but with nothing concrete about the game to actually discuss at the moment...all we've got is speculation.

I don't know why, but I just thought of "Heeeeeeeey, speculation!" to the tune of the Macarena. Great, so, now I'll be singing that for the next few days.
