I was kinda hoping they'd take more unusual path in advertising for people not busy with pixel hunting in teasers. Focusing on this certainly-not-protagonist and building tension between two by making Ryder kind of a dick. You know, instead of generic badass hero saving everyone.

One of the devs stated that the song choice was deliberate and had some relevance to the story.

I'm just speculating and may up completely wrong, but with nothing concrete about the game to actually discuss at the moment...all we've got is speculation.

Ghost = Spectre?

*Shrugs*

One theory is as good as the other ftm I'm enjoying everyone's theories.

I don't know why, but I just thought of "Heeeeeeeey, speculation!" to the tune of the Macarena.  Great, so, now I'll be singing that for the next few days.

Aaand the disease is spreading.. thank you (NOT!!!).

Thats an incredibly vague statement.

Vague, but it's getting our tongues wagging by speculating on it and it's nature.

I think the truth is much more practical...I think we are searching for Ryder.

Which makes me think Ryder was sent on a mission before us and its our job to find him. A sort of "Heart of Darkness" meets Mass Effect kind of deal which would make Ryder "go native" in a way.

TW3 was apparently quite successful - so we're getting ME:4 - The Wild Hunt (in SPACE!) ... which it totally different from The Wild Hunt in TW who just traversed between worlds ... and they might not be Elves.

Starving fans will savor a crumb.

Crazy Star Wars fans took all the trailer clips and rearranged them in what they "THOUGHT" was chronological order a week before The Force Awakens came out. Of course Mass Effect fans will pixel hunt. :D

I like the idea of Ryder being a VIP or an antagonist. Bioware trolling us once again, being giant teases. EA play can't come soon enough.

The choice of song for the teaser trailer might lend some weight to this theory.

"Ghost riders in the sky"

We know the N7 in the trailer isn't the protagonist, but he obviously plays some important role in the story since he was the focus of the first trailer. We were also told that the song choice was deliberate and the reason for that choice would be clear later. Near the end of the trailer we see him and two companion get attacked by hostile aliens after encountering ancient ruins. What if he disappears during that attack and it is his disappearance the protagonist is initially following up on? Maybe the protagonist isn't the first pathfinder. Assuming the N7 is named Ryder, the song is then referencing his disappearance.

Interestingly, the two companions of the N7 seem like they could be a match for Cora and Drack, two companions of the protagonist mentioned in one of the rumored leaks.

It could be an interesting twist if the N7 disappears but isn't quite dead, and emerges later in the story as an antagonist. What if the Khet (presumably the hostile aliens) aren't truly villains, and they have good reasons for trying to prevent the recovery of Remnant tech? Maybe Ryder, or whatever the N7 is named, goes full Dances With Wolves after having spent some time in captivity.

Very interesting.

While that's interesting... probably not. It would be interesting if one of our companions over the course of multiple games were to become the main antagonist though. BioWare has been suffering to have really strong antagonists as of late.

I did say that I may end up completely wrong.

I'm not saying that's where Bioware is going. I'm saying maybe that's where they're going. That's...kind of the point of this thread.

Maybe he/she is the PC's brother or sister, after all, there's two children in that picture. Maybe Ryder went rogue.

Maybe.

Maybe Ryder is a character who dies and his death looms large throughout the game? Maybe Ryder was a certified badass and the PC has to fill his shoes while facing the scrutiny of the crew whose loyalty still belongs to Ryder, even in death.

What if he is? It's just a name.

Of course Ryder could be the antagonist and Ryder could be the protagonist..."Ryder, I am Ryder!!! Your father in case that wasn't clear."

That wouldn't be a bad idea either. After being certified galactic hero since ME1 (heck, even before ME, given the backgrounds), becoming the newbie sounds appealing.

You know, after checking all the speculation here, I notice that all of that could happen at the same time:

-That Ryder "died" or at least was presumed dead at some point.

-That we are looking for Ryder or, at least, trying to learn what the heck happened to his mission.

-That we have to lead Ryder's previous crew.

-That Ryder becomes an antagonist.

-That Ryder and the PC are siblings.

Now worried that the actual scenario will be more disappointing, because these ideas don't sound bad at all.

Then a lot of people's planned names won't work out.

I take it you must have liked the plot of MGSV then.

I don't want to play a character with PTSD after being buggered by an old pervert.

I would pretty much love that if Ryder was the antagonist, fresh take on Bio's games. I'm assuming this because of the dog tags and the portrait.

What if the N7 Guy's not even in the game and the trailer was mostly just to get people excited? Then again, from what they've said that probably isn't likely.

Bioware said he's not the PC, I doubt it's a companion, but I could be wrong. Maybe he led the squad before the PC and died or went rogue. I just know all this stuff is exciting.

I like this theory, if for no other reason than I found it odd that people assumed the PC's name was Ryder based on a pair of barely-legible dog tags coiled up on a desk.

Just one dog tag, actually. Suggesting Ryder is dead.

I like the idea of Ryder being the protaganst that goes antagonist. Maybe our character and Ryder are on a mission together and big hotshot Ryder goes off and uses his N7 rank to explore without us and that is when the crap goes down. Something happens to Ryder that makes him feel that he has to stop what we are trying to do in Andromeda.

Also what if Ryder is our best friend and our characters first romantic interest, of course can be subsided into just best friend through dialogue. It would basically be up to you to decide if your character was more than just best friends basically. Of course that would make Ryder becoming the Antagonist even more deeper for your character.
